What about the lichen on the stones Desdemona?

Desdemona as said above, it will damage the lichen and other microscopic natural life growing on the stones.

On the radio this morning I heard someone saying that the specific lichen on these stones is very fragile and sensitive but someone has been out with some sort of air blower and have blown off much of the residue. They are grateful that it was a dry day and the lichen was also dry. The feeling is it would have damaged it if it had been wet but will probably be OK.

Idiotic vandalism.

Experts have cleared the powder with air blowers but it's not conclusive yet whether or not the rare lichen that protects the stones has been damaged. If the cornflour had got wet it would have set hard and needed to be scraped off which would 100% have killed the lichen and further damaged the stones. They obviously don't bother with too much research about the things they attack. I've not seen any explanation from Just Stop Oil as to why they didn't consider the rare lichens to be of value.

Makes you wonder- supposedly protesting about the environment but what do they do ? Destroy it. Typical.

They should be made to clean it up publicly .

I think it is time someone asked these nitwits just how much oil awas consumed and emissions made by their aantic. Neither are local people, so how did they get there? Walk? walking being the only form of transport that does not involve oil in its manufacture, let alone use, then i would like to know the energy implictions of the powde they use, the canisters it is in, the police cars etc that have to drive their to arrest them and take them into custody - and their journey home.

I also wonder about their shoes. Are they wearing modern trainer/walking shoes - made almost entirely from oil based products. let that be counted in.

Then we get them to produce a cogent sensible reason how using all this oil promotes their cause.

We are all aware ofg lobal warming and its affects Just stop oil actually do their cause an incredible amount of harm, by associating it with crackpots and weirdos.

They are cleaned already, I checked this morning.

It is where private jets, political leaders planes and where commercial aircraft land when there is a problem with a suspicious passenger/hostage situation.

They must have really researched the area, they were arrested within minutes, but it is worrying they were able to get air side

Wyllow It is not known yet whether the paint damaged the lichen and microscopic plant, fungus, and microbe life that live on the surface of the stones, plus, of course, any insects that just happened to be on the stones at the time the paint was thrown.

Yes I read about that on the Museum site. The paint was water soluble but they didn't use water so it's all very confusing.
Better never to have had to do it.

Just a small deviation,I am lead to believe Stanstead airport was constructed as a terrorism airport.
That's why if there is an incident involving an airplane in the sky's in the U.K.the aircraft is normally diverted to Stanstead airport.

So not sure how on earth the just stop oil protesters got near the aircraft to spray the orange dust.

I’m not condoning the actions of the group, but see the Government sanctioned vandalism about to happen at Stonehenge.
UNESCO has warned that if this vandalism goes ahead Stonehenge is likely to have its World Heritage classification removed, all so that traffic can get through quicker and so that no one will be able to see these magnificent stones as they pass by.

This is what happens when people are too lenient. This group's activities should have been nipped in the bud right from the start. Instead of which, they have been allowed to disrupt the lives of decent people and now they think they can get away with anything.

This is something so many 'stop all oil' people seem to forget - that oil is used for so many other purpose - including making plastics, which are used everywhere in our lives. How would hospitals manage without plastic gloves, plastic wipe clean surfaces and other hygiene products.

I thought oil was a ‘natural’ product coming from the ground. I must be wrong, obviously.

It is a natural product and while it is in the ground it does no harm to anyone. It is when we extract it from the ground and start processing it that it becomes harmful to the environment.

But while I see the logic of those who think it should stay in the ground and be enviromentally harmless, it is clear that they are unaware that it is used for anything other than transport fuel.
