I was at a residential church conference many years ago when a few of the female attendees wanted to catch that weekâs episode of âThe Rectorâs Wifeâ (the BBC dramatisation of the book by Joanna Trollope). We sneaked off to the tv lounge where we were joined by a retired clergyman, in his 80s. Should we warn him of the potentially unsuitable content of the episode for a man of his age and profession? We didnât and he was glued to the screen during the rather, for the time, steamy sexual encounter between the RW and her lover. We women had to suppress our helpless laughter (somewhat unsuccessfully). I guess all our prejudgements were challenged - age, gender, profession ⊠đ
