When did you last meet somebody new?

I did it by volunteering. Not only did/do I meet new volunteers but I also do guided tours with a completely new set of strangers every time.

Not an option if you're a bit housebound, though.

About ten minutes ago. A new postman. The old one has given up in despair, so he says.

About 3 months ago I met a nice lady whose friend was having the same op as me. She offered to give me lifts and do shopping if needed. I haven't needed her help but have met her and her friend for coffee a couple of times.

I joined U3A!
Say no more.

This morning 2 delivery drivers and every time I go on the bus or train. And when out shopping.

At the weekend, a friend of my friend here in France whose 23 year old daughter is now going to visit us this summer in the UK to practise her English. So that's actually two people!

I’ve met loads of new local folk since I had a hip replacement three weeks ago - half the village seems to be invested in my recovery, and pop out of their houses to encourage me on my daily walks. It’s been lovely.

I belong to National Women's Register. A lady who recently moved to our locality, has joined the group. I think we may become friends in time.

I remember years ago joining the National Housewives Register. I met my best friend there.
Is this a similar sort of group Aldom?

1 year ago. A new family moved into our village, and she invited us over for a Buffet. Very sweet of her.

I suppose it depends what you mean by "meet".
I have very friendly conversations with people all the time.

Most weeks. I am President of a very large club and we get a lot of new members all the time. I love it, there are all sorts and ages range from 55-90. Keeps me busy.

Callistenon123 I joined U3A also. They do not have a lot to interest me, but an excellent book group. Lovely people in that.

We met our lovely new neighbour a few weeks ago and She has already been in for a coffee. We will I am sure get on very well together.

A new couple at quiz last night in our local, we had a chat during the break, they used to visit the area we lived in during our time in Françe.

I haven’t met anybody ‘new’ that I would meet a second time by choice for many years. Although we have a new post lady that started yesterday.

But recently due to MzOops ongoing health problems I’ve met Police, Ambulance drivers and Paramedics, various Nurses, Doctors and Consultants, they’ve all been very kind but TBH I don’t really want to see them again!

I do guided tours too, MaizieD. It’s a good way of meeting new folk and they frequently come for a chat on future visits.
Do you think we ought to declare any tips to the taxman, as they are unsolicited gifts?

Summerfly I belong to National Women’s Register too, and it was indeed National Housewives Register many years ago. I’ve made so many friends through our local group. Someone new came today so chatted to her. We talk about anything and everything!

I meet lots of new people every week at my various voluntary jobs. I really enjoy it. Yesterday I ran a quiz in a care home and then went to visit people who liked to stay in their rooms. Lots of interesting chat.
Today I met some students and some doctors at a simulated patient exam.
All this keeps me fully mentally occupied.

Summerfly and Lovemylife I belonged to Housewives Register in the 1960's. The group I belonged to then was in Chester.
I've made several friends through my NWR group (formally Housewives Register).
Meeting in our homes in smaller groups is very friendly.

When I was struggling couple of weeks ago to cut a large patch of very long grass with my shears because the strimmer had died on me, a lady I had never seen or spoken to came across with her strimmer and took the grass down far enough for me to get the mower over it. Astonishingly kind! I met her again yesterday and we had a long chat.

Oh, and a new chap came to our writers group last week. Not sure if he’ll come again - we may have frightened him off😂!

It’s a good question OP and made me think.The people I see regularly, or work with or socialise with or neighbours, are all people I’ve known for years.I can’t think of a single new person.
