Good Morning Saturday 29th June 2024

Good morning from Cornwall where the sunrise is clear and beautiful but a cloudy day is forecast. Thank you for all your kindnesses yesterday, my apologies for not responding, so many interruptions from the diligent nurses plus the anaesthetist plus the surgeon. Superlative care, pain manageable. Today I'll be up and walking around.

Am in a room with one other lady who bizarrely is a mirror image of me in her lifestyle. We were so excited and talked for hours and in the end the nurse had to insist we stopped so that we could get some sleep. 😂 I think we'll be keeping in touch, which is an unexpected bonus.

My son took this photo in St Ives yesterday. The gulls there have real attitude. 😁

*Mizuna”, you seem to be full of the joys! What an amazing recovery from the GA; I would have taken a day to recover. I hope you are in no pain, or no worse before.

Yesterday went well. We visited Buxton in the pouring rain; I had neither woolly vest nir raincoat. Fortunately, the rain eased to a drizzle but the wind was still vicious. DS is really into his second hand bookshops and insisted on visiting one. My goodness, I have never been into such an Aladdin’s cave! There were four floors and included a bookbinder on the ground floor. It was wonderful. I would have bought a shelf load.

We then set off back here, stopping for a packed lunch. The weather improved the further south we went; the temperature which had been 11C rose to a final sunny 21C “down south!

I need foliage for church flowers today, so picked some at DD’s; they had already gone to Glastonbury.

Quiet evening unpacking, etc., bed.

Today will be busy as I need to do some washing, the church flowers and I am now on the rota clean the church today as well…

Off to a souk later and another stroll along the beach this morning as the wind 💨 picks up something shocking in the afternoons and it’s hang on to your hollyhocks🫨

Enjoyed a lishus tagine in the Moroccan restaurant last night and we’re trying the Italian this evening although the buffet restaurant is perfectly fine with plenty of choice for all diets.

So glad to hear you are doing so well Mizuna and what a bonus to have found a kindred spirit sharing your room.

It happened to me when I was in hospital in Kent having DD1. My roommate and I hit it off and we are still friends 42 years later despite the miles between us.

I have a laundry list of things to do today, whether I achieve any of it remains to be seen.

Yesterday DH had his appointment at the pacemaker clinic and was told that it was too old now so needs replacing. He’s had it for 12 years and wonderfully they can tell when he had an “event” right down to the minute. DH is always unaware of these events whereas previously he would become unconscious and fall - often injuring himself in the process.

Appointment will be September/October.

I am hoping that the wind has gone today as yesterday it was decidedly chilly. I need to weed and cut back.

Just general pottering for me today, it is how I keep on top of things without stress and I make lots of impulsive decisions on what to do as and when. Sometimes, nothing at all. I do know that I want to finish the last few knitted rows of dungarees for another mouche bear. That ufo has been in a small basket for weeks

Good morning Michael and all GNs from a rather grey, cool South Yorkshire. Our jaunt to the gardens at Chatsworth yesterday was very enjoyable and we didn’t get the rain that was forecast but it was cool and breezy. Sadly the Cascade wasn’t working but there was plenty else to see. I bought a plant to bring home and will put it in today, when I shall do nothing much but do a food shop, cut the grass and potter.

Good morning from a distinctly chilly Sarthe although we were too warm in the night.

Thank you for the kind comments about the migraines I had suffered. Two in three days was wearing but fingers crossed they have passed now as I has a much better day yesterday.

What a remarkable recovery you've made from your knee operation, Mizuna! I think your positive approach is an example to us all and I’m so glad you have a kindred spirit with whom you’re sharing.

I'm glad you’re home safely, grandMattie, facing your many commitments with renewed vigour, I'm sure.

Yesterday I booked an appointment to get contact lenses again, I haven’t worn them for several years. I need to look for my sunglasses!

More pottering in the garden today, I am slowly making my way around the borders. I will take the dog out first and enjoy the peace of the early morning.

Good morning everyone from a very bright and sunny 🌞Northampton, set to remain so all day. Listening to Tony Blackburn 'Sounds of the Sixties' on the radio, which brings back so many memories.

Yesterday was busy with visits from both the plumber and gardener. My bathroom loo is unfixable and needs a whole new cistern which the plumber will source and get back to me next week. While he was here he also resealed my en-suite shower and sorted out the cloakroom loo as well, just needed sealing around the base.

Then the gardener arrived and did 5 hours of solid work, completely filling both garden waste bins. The garden looks much better now and I should be able to keep on top of things until he comes back at the end of July.

Wrapped younger DGD's birthday presents, and repaired a straw shoulder-bag - which I hadn't used for years as it needed repairing! Changed the bedding, which reminds me that it is sitting waiting in the washing machine, so I must switch it on. Will be a good day for drying.

Going up to DS and family for lunch to celebrate younger DGD's 14th birthday; DD and her DH (and Annie the dog) will also join us, so a nice family gathering. Maybe there will be fizz and cake....

Yesterday the children and dogs had a great run around the grounds of Florencecourt House near Enniskillen, followed by cake and ice cream at the cafe in the news.

Good morning from Durham, where it’s raining. I’m meeting DD2 for breakfast, then going to DD1’s school summer fair, which will now be a soggy affair - such a shame about the weather.
DD2 is working part of the weekend, so I’m tempted to bring Little Dog here - her DH is still struggling, so one less thing to cope with.
Such a positive, uplifting post Mizuma hopefully home soon.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and dry. I'll take that! Mizuna you sound very cheerful and how lovely to have met a kindred spirit! Ash fingers crossed for no more migraines. GrandMattie your trip will have done you good. That, and spending time with your ds.
Yesterday dd popped in with dgs2 and he proudly handed me donuts he insisted his mum buy "for gramma." They are a particularly vicious shade of pink, the icing tastes awful and I really don't like them. However I graciously accepted them and gave them back when they left. In the afternoon, I visited another care home. This one was in a beautiful old house with high ceilings. It was as nice as the one on Wednesday. So I've picked my three and let the social worker know. Later dd came back with washing to be dried and dgs1. He was incredibly hyper and excited because he has finished nursery and thinks he starts school next week. We have to keep reminding him it's holiday time.
Today I'm meeting a friend for breakfast. Then, this afternoon, dgs2 is coming for a sleepover. He's very excited about it because he never has slept over just himself. It'll be lovely to have him. I'm having a ham salad for dinner. He'll probably have beans. Have a good day all.

Yesterday little DGD danced with her dancing school at the school fete and spent her ‘savings’ on multiple activities. She had a whale of a time and today is going to Colchester Zoo for a friends birthday treat. Dd was supposed to be going but isn’t well enough.😢.

We have nothing planned so will watch the tennis, which has been very exciting this year.

Mizuna so glad the op is now done and you can get on the road to recovery. How lovely to have a like minded soul to share your room with. It’s always lovely to find a new friend.

good morning from a rather chilly and quite grey morning in North Yorkshire. It is good to catch up with your news and views. I got the chance to go on a very last minute holiday on a Fred Olsen ship. It has been very good but most of all very uplifting to still be able to be the person I am.! I used to be able to get ready and dash off to wherever with less than 24 hours notice. Now with constant pain, and very slow walking quite depressing that I need to take my mac from the carpark to the shop or could get soakes in a shower, get to feel that things are all going down hill!! Well things have looked up somewhat, still got the pain etc of course but FO sent me an email asking if I was interested in this cruise. They contacted me on the sunday and the ship was sailing on the wednesday. I was about to say no thanks but when I saw it said Arctic Ocean decided I must try and go. As I am a widow and live alone the wretched single suppleyment means that most trips are out of the question. Well I had the whip hand in this case and asked them what they were going to charge me for going alone, bearing in mind that the ship was leaving on the wednesday and a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush! It worked and they only charged me £100 extra. It was somewhat of a mad dash on monday to get all the documentation and insurance etc etc done but did it and managed , by the skin of my teeth, to be there in time. They are a great company, using smaller ships, have great food, a lovely library a card room , swimming pool etc so I knew if i was unable to walk about much I would still have a good time and I did. Went right up to Spitzbergen, saw the midnight sun, whales , all sorts of seabirds etc and took myself off on the local bus to the most northerly garden in the world , an arctic/alpine garden near Tromso. Absolutely wonderful, of course only has a very short season from may to august to flower so lots to see. Had my polar base wear etc with me but the weather was so lovely and warm didnt need any of it. Great lectures and played bridge and scrabble etc etc . Great to have company of people with similar interests. Of course the added bonus was NO political waffling. Oh I shall defintely vote as I always do, you cant complain if you dont vote!! I go to meetings to have my two pennorth to say in person, but cannot stand watching on the tv as my blood pressure rises listening to the wretched politicians ignoring the questions asked and carrying on regardless saying what they want to say !! Ugh!! So there were papers and news of course but I had a blissful 2 weeks without any of the endless repeating of the same comments where they are all behaving like children in the playground , spending the time slagging each other off and doing the usual "its not my fault, you cant blame me "Ah well now down to earth washer going, chaos to sort out etc. Time for a coffee and radio 3 with some J S Bach to cheer the morning . Good morning from another sunny Suffolk day although,after a similar start yesterday,it was cloudy and several degrees cooler all day…no rain though.

Minuza, really great to read of how positive and well you are after your op yesterday. I’m sure your recovery will continue speedily and you’ll be dancing the night away if you so choose!

Apart fro a few household tasks,we’ll have a peaceful day until the late afternoon when there is a festival of ships,music,food etc at our nearest harbour,about 5 miles away. It will be very busy with locals and the many visitors so parking will be a problem so we’ll go early,probably like everyone else anxious to find a space without having to walk very far.

Hope today is a positive one for all,especially those who are unwell or caring for others.

Baubles just read your post which brought back very happy memories of a holiday we spent with the children about 30 years ago,when the Troubles had quietened down, staying in the gardener’s cottage at Florence Court. The children particularly enjoyed being able to run around the huge garden when the NT property closed for the day. I think they had pretend games that the owned the place! Thank you for my 5 minutes of revelling in those happy memories.
