OMG the Deputy PM looked a fright walking along Downing Street this afternoon.

Showwaddywaddy called and want their suit back!! 🤣

She looks like she either has no bra on or a badly fitting one. Her boobs are almost down to the waistband of her trousers.

I saw Angela walking into Downing Street yesterday on this morning's news. She looked much better than the photo displayed on Gransnet.

GSM. For someone who has told us all on here, repeatedly, how you got your life in order after making what you described as a stupid mistake by getting married in your teens, you are quick to criticise. To be honest, your comments disgust me. Tackle the ball, not the player.

maddyone

But you were asking me about morals Annie, but I have made no comment about the morals of any politician on this thread, nor on other threads actually.

No, we all know that maddyone.

Nor have I.

I do think it was an unfortunate choice of suit. A fashion brand to avoid if that is anything to go by. Keeping up with the latest fashion trends, even if they don't suit you, is a mistake. What might look ok on a size 4 or 6 model doesn't always look good on a woman with a normal body like Angela.

I wish her well in her new role.

Thanks Callistemon.

Interesting thread, some people showing their true colours.

Agree Gala I was heartened reading through the appointments to Starmer's government as there's talent and some experience too, not easy when they've been out of government for so long and great to see so many women in positions of real authority.
It's so much easier for men, a suit that fits, a plain shirt, a tie or not and a pair of black shoes, add a reasonable haircut or shave the lot off and you are ready to go. Women seem to have to jump through many more hoops to be seen as acceptable by their greatest critics who seem to be, other women!
I wish all the women ministers the best of luck and they will need it as their lives will be under close scrutiny, not just on the decisions they make, what comes out of their mouths (even in private) but also their appearance. There was nothing "tarty" about AR's appearance and I sincerely hope she doesn't start wearing her hair in a bun with sensible dark suits like a corporate lawyer but I think she's too much "her own person" to do that.

Rekarie Sat 06-Jul-24 09:31:48

Would all those criticising this outfit do so to her face?

No? But why not? Surely if you're mocking this choice online then you'd certainly say the same to her face?

If you wouldn't then this is just nasty.

Callistemon213 Sat 06-Jul-24 09:34:16

Remember the criticism of Michael Foot and his 'donkey jacket' at the Cenotaph?

It's not just women who need flak jackets.

fancythat Sat 06-Jul-24 09:34:41

The point is Rayner is now a serious polititian (we hope) her actions, words and demeanor have consequences, she needs to conform to conventions because other people, especially women will judge her.

I think he has a point.
It is why there are still office dress codes in some industries, even if largely unmentioned.

But I do allow for peoples' own individual style too.

It looks very nice on the model but not for accepting the post of Deputy PM. Unfortunately AR is a lot bigger than the model. She couldn’t have done the jacket up and it’s not designed to be worn over a shirt as AR did. Lady Starmer’s dress from the same company cost less than half the price and it looked on her exactly as it does on the model.

I am a big fan of Me+Em - lovely trousers and knitwear.

This is a good read for the interested.

Fashion brand Me+Em supplied the green trouser suit Angela Rayner wore, it consisted of a £325 cropped jacket and matching £225 wide-legged trousers. The same brand was worn by Lady Victoria Starmer on her first outing to Downing Street.

Anniebach
She had a baby when she was 16 so you judge her

Germanshepherdsmum
I judge her for many things. That is just one of them.

Those of you saying that you see nobody criticising AR personally on here must have missed that little gem. Let alone the tart remark.

I’m an admirer - the woman’s pulled herself up by her own bootstraps from being a child carer and having to rely on neighbours to feed her. Not many could have achieved what she has. I attended a talk she gave recently and was impressed. I wish her well.

But yes, that outfit was horrendous. Not helped by the breeze flapping it around, but dear Lord. smile She’ll look back at the photos in years to come and cringe. Perhaps we haven’t all done that, but I certainly have!

This model is half the size of AR and has the jacket fastened. She is wearing nothing underneath and appears to be almost flat chested so the jacket sits correctly.

AR is showing off her surgically enhanced breasts and midriff which is not a good look.

This is a casual outfit not something to wear when you know all eyes will be on you on your first day as Deputy PM.

It's the silly shoes worn by women that always make me groan inwardly.

I categorise shoes (and have done since my teens) as: 1. shoes; 2. silly shoes; 3. very silly shoes.

If footwear squashes your toes or if you can't walk several miles in them comfortably, they are silly (or very silly) in my book. It was noticing people's shoes on buses that started this shoe judgmentalism in me long ago.

BlueBelle Sat 06-Jul-24 09:43:49

Oh give it a break Primrose your becoming boring
Perhaps I m being generous saying ‘becoming’
Let’s see a picture of your perfect self in your perfect outfits
Sour grapes aren’t pretty

Baggs Sat 06-Jul-24 09:45:27

But AR can wear what the hell she likes. Freeeedom smells of realiteeee!

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 06-Jul-24 09:45:55

You’ve reminded me of the boob job. Not something most women would publicise unless they’re Katie Price.

Baggs Sat 06-Jul-24 09:46:20

My middle name, when it's not "practical", is "Curtain Trousers".

Baggs Sat 06-Jul-24 09:47:27

Although.... I do agree with Primrose deep down in my soul.

Baggs Sat 06-Jul-24 09:49:19

BB, stop jumping on Primrose. Free speech and all that adds to life's rich tapestry.

I thought Teresa May’s shoes were wonderful. They brightened up a corporate suit. The only shoes I have ever bought on the basis of being able to walk several miles in them are flat boots and trainers. Most women in office jobs don’t have to walk miles and many change from flats to heels when they get to work.

LizzieDrip Sat 06-Jul-24 09:51:10

I see this thread has now descended into criticism of AR’s body as well as the suit she was wearing.

A new low Primrose, if that were possible!

merlotgran Sat 06-Jul-24 09:51:57

My mother always used to say, ‘You are what you wear and you’re treated accordingly.’

She never wavered from that even on the day DD and I struggled to get her into smart burgundy trousers and matching blouse on the day she had a stroke. She refused to travel in the ambulance in her nightclothes.

By the time she left hospital they were calling her the Duchess! 😂
