OMG the Deputy PM looked a fright walking along Downing Street this afternoon.
Showwaddywaddy called and want their suit back!! š¤£
She looks like she either has no bra on or a badly fitting one. Her boobs are almost down to the waistband of her trousers.
Yet.
Whether we agree with them or not (and I don't), GSM is as entitled as anyone else to her views.
She has not directed her attack on any poster on here.
I'd also point out that there have been topics and threads where Boris Johnson (and others) have come under scrutiny, and some pretty dire observations made about his appearance, his morals, and his character (often well deserved IMO) - to the extent that some GNetters have complained of a hate-campaign against him.
Are there lines not to be crossed? I think so - denigrating someone for their ethnicity, physical defect or impediment, but GSM did not do that.
I think we are all judgemental to some degree or other - I like to kid myself that I'm not, but in reality I know that I am and, in private, have made some pretty severe observations about politicians, and people in general, but on social media, use a sieve before posting. Clearly, GSM doesn't filter her opinion - but unless using banned terminology, she's not obliged to do that.
Why am I defending her? In the interests of free speech; I personally don't want a social media site where opinions and views can only be expressed via a prescribed, reformist, narrative.
Personally I think tattoos look common
Oh dear, the potential for another thread regarding the use of the word ācommonā alongside ātattoosā.
It always raises hackles on GN.
We all know what ācommon ā means, although many pretend not to.

Okay you are angry at the result so you look for something to criticise but nastiness is not what I have come to expect on Gransnet. I hope this kind of rhetoric gets reined in. It sounds bitchy and Gransnet is not bitchy.
Really? Are you new here?
As for being angry over the result, please donāt include me in that assessment. As far as Iām concerned the result was a foregone conclusion and it didnāt anger me. It may have angered others.
I neither like nor dislike AR and donāt normally pay much attention but I was shocked when I saw her striding into No 10 yesterday wearing that hideous trouser suit. Nothing to do with party politics, sexism or bitchiness. I thought the outfit looked dreadful. I donāt, however, understand the tart comment as there was nothing tarty about it. Just a dreadful fashion faux pas on several levels.
What she wears has no bearing on what she is doing at the moment . The fact that you want to bring this up again puts down women. You dont comment on mens clothes in these circumstances do you? Do you actually think it is more important that someone dresses in a specific manner than they are not a lying cheating man who makes rules for others to keep but does not follow them himself. Well I dont care what Johnson wears I care about the person inside the clothing.
This thread isnāt about Johnson. Itās about AR and that trouser suit.
Fashion and style should be a personal choice, I applaud anyone who wears what they want when they want, but basically I donāt care what they wear as long as they try their best to rectify the previous governments mistakes.
Angela Rayner grinds my gears a bit, but she has got where she is by sheer determination, some luck & the goodwill of others who have supported her talents.
I admire how much she has overcome from a childhood of neglect & disadvantage, she shoots from the hip by default. As I say she grinds my gears a bit, I find her to be vulgar & course.
She is at a disadvantage as she has not grown up within the smooth monied comfort that many politicians & leaders take for granted.
The acid green is not a good colour for her & she can wear others colours very well. The jacket & shoes matched buuuut the trews were a disaster.
I hope that she follows the example Princesses Euge & Beatrice laughable hats, shrugging off the chorus of disapproval & AR puts ghastly green ensemble up for a celeb charity auction.
Maybe put the outfit up for hire through a posh dress agency or theatrical costumier.
Thank you Dickens. Yes, I say what I think but am careful not to personally insult another poster no matter what view I might hold about them - and I would be surprised if any of us didnāt hold private views about fellow posters. Some make it clear what they think of me. Within the talk guidelines, that is their prerogative and I couldnāt care less. Iām not here to court popularity.
What I very much disagree with is the implication that women must stand together and never criticise one another, and the express accusations of misogyny if one does so. We are all people. Women donāt hold some special preserve which makes them immune from criticism by other women.

Criticising one woman is not āputting down womenā. A perfect example of what I have just said.
It is far far easier for a man to dress well for professional purposes: a well cut dark suit, fresh pressed shirt, silk tie & polished black shoes.
This is partly why we do not comment so quickly about male politicians clothing. Possibly Rishiās skinny trousers cut too short is an exception that proves the rule???

This is interesting. It makes me think of several things.
Firstly, why does expecting a person to look smart "put them down"? Smartness is, of course, subjective, as this thread shows.
Secondly, men's clothes don't keep changing at anything like the rate that women's do. Most male politicians could wear the same suit every day for years and nobody would notice so long as it looked presentable and appropriate.
Thirdly, Rishi Sunak's clothes (and shoes) were criticised quite a lot but he did look smart unlike, say, Boris who often didn't.
Fourthly, and a bit tongue in cheek, what I'm wearing definitely has a bearing on what I intend to do while wearing it. I think this is probably true for most people.
Yes, the person inside the clothing is what's really important. People who liked what Boris 'stood for' tended not to mind what he looked like. Similarly, people who like what Angela Rayner stands for tend not to mind what she looks like.
Sounds like quits to me.
And it's definitely OK to comment on fashion as it presents itself on public figures.
How ironic - the postman has just delivered the latest Me+Em catalogue. I shall enjoy looking through it. Fortunately I know what does and doesnāt suit my figure.

Just so.

Oh wow, that's so unkind. How do you dress for the part? Is there a dress code?
Yes, itās usually a smart dress/skirt worn with a nice jacket and a nice handbag.
AR would have got away with that outfit if sheād been going to a summer party on a nice sunny day.
Mrs Sunak looked lovely in her red white and blue dress. She always looks very smart, she knows how to dress but AR never seems to get it right.

I can only assume those dishing out this bile are absolute babes themselves.
Maybe a few photos would assist?

Commenting on oneās outfit is one thing, suggesting that they are ātartsā is entirely another!

My daughter and DIL rarely use bags. My daughter has a small satchel-type thing that she uses sometimes, but not when she's going out. She keeps her phone in her pocket and uses that to pay for things. I have always favoured a tote bag with a juggernaut behind me to carry all my stuff. I feel uneasy when I don't have a bag with me.

Both practical and wise when going out and about. Phones kept in bags - if your bag is snatched, you lose your phone - ugh.
As a very young woman I used to frequent all the various jazz clubs in London. All I took with me was a small comb, a hanky, the front-door key, and a £1 pound note (those were the days!)... all carried in my jeans' 4 pockets.
The freedom of not having to tote around things you might need - now I have a Gladstone-style handbag which contains everything one might need if lost in the middle of a dense forest. Which is probably not necessary when going down into our small town for a couple of hours.
I'm just a bit sad my bingo card hasn't been filled as no one has mentioned her regional accent yet
It is a sad day

Didnāt like ARās dress today either. I think sheās in need of some advice and a full length mirror.
please put a photo of self up!
I am not over the moon with a Labour Government, but I will wait and see what they do and how they do it.
I will not insult them on a personal/physical level.
(Definitely curse them if they go after our savings though)

In my opinion I think the photo used for the purpose of this thread was just a bad photo
This is the official shot
Thanks for posting that GG13. I think she looks lovely in the official shot. I suspect the trouser suit is one of those outfits which looks great when you're standing inside in front of a mirror, but is a disaster when you're moving, especially is it's windy. I had a dress like that, which was great when I tried it on, but when I saw some videos of myself wearing it and walking about, I was horrified. I seem to remember Carrie Johnson had a dress which showed her knickers when she was photographed with the sun behind her, but looked lovely in other shots.
I can't believe this thread has gone on for so long.
they have obviously been inside with bags ect then had to come out and do the walking in bit for the camera's of course!
