Angela Rayner ghastly trouser suit

Perhaps she thinks she’s the late Queen, who always dressed so as to stand out (rather more tastefully though).

I thought AR’s dress was bold but tasteful. The late Queen would probably have approved.

Did you see the trouser suit people are complaining about? It was certainly noticeable and not in a good way

Why this personal animosity?
I can understand bring diametrically opposed to somebody’s politics.
I can understand being underwhelmed by a person’s taste or the absence thereof
I can sympathise with subjective opinions (Boris in his floral running shorts and hoodie-no question! )
But come on, we are all presumably intelligent people so why bang on about the matter?
I am unfortunately reminded of the sort of teacher , who, reprimanding a student for their behaviour or poor work, would round it off with “And do that tie up/that skirt is far too short/Get a hair cut” - as if their appearance compounded the felony, but actually was just nagging.

DH usually has no fashion sense at all.
He wondered if she'd borrowed the trousers from someone larger than her.

All eyes are on her so she has chosen a dress in a bright colour that shouts, ‘I’m the highest ranking woman in the room so feast your eyes, folks!’ 😂

Just asked DH what he thought, Kate1949
He said "it was absolutely awful, the trousers just didn't fit! She looks nice today, though, in that orange dress".

I haven't mentioned any of this to my husband as he has no interest in such things. Coincidentally he has just opened the paper at the page with AR in that trouser suit and said 'Oh my. What IS she wearing?'

The Daily Mail is often criticised (rightly) for focusing on what women are wearing.

Funnily enough there is an article today filled with praise for Angela's outfits.

Quite so. I've seen politicians referred to as scum and some quite unedifying comments made about their supposed character traits. From both sides of the political spectrum. And certainly observations made about their appearance.

Yes, Dickens, but two wrongs don't make a right. You won't have seen me call anyone 'scum', and the fact that others may have done so doesn't mean that I (or others who don't indulge in insulting language like that) should have to accept seeing women called 'tarts'. I don't see this as being about political allegiance (although I have no doubt that the nastiness is underpinned by that). As I've said I would defend any woman from sexist slurs, wherever they sit on the political spectrum.

Just had a quick peek at today’s outfits and rather than criticise the not-so-dapper, I award Annalise Dodd and Ed Miliband the Best Dressed 🥇🥇

Boris Johnson attracted a lot of flack in that respect, and he was certainly body-shamed. IMO he did sometimes look scruffy - like he'd just come from a pillow-fight in a dormitory. But, that apart, I believe he has an unfortunate body-shape - which results in whatever he wears just not fitting correctly, and that's not his fault.

We insisted on taking her to hospital to be checked and although she was up and dressed already, she got changed into something she felt was more "acceptable" to go to hospital in. It was a whole outfit change including "smart" shoes.

They were of the generation that dressed up for ‘doctor’ weren’t they?

I can understand an elderly lady who has just had a fall not wanting to appear any more vulnerable though. I think some of it is about respect

I will add that the woman I mentioned above was always being commented on with 'What on earth is she wearing?' 'What does she look like?' etc. I was only a lowly clerk but I liked to dress smartly for work. Each to their own I suppose.

PS I mentioned that what I wear certainly has a bearing on what I'm doing. I think I should clarify that in case anyone thinks I'm a smarty pants (ha!). I'm usually in "scruffs" because that's what's appropriate for most of the work I do.

Regarding " professions", there may be people on here who are carers.

Underpaid, undervalued and some of the kindest people you could meet.

Whats that saying about being careful how you treat people?
None of us know what lies ahead and we may well be glad of some help from somebody who shows a bit of empathy and decency.
All the degrees in the world and fancy clothes can't buy kindness.
