OMG the Deputy PM looked a fright walking along Downing Street this afternoon.

Showwaddywaddy called and want their suit back!! đŸ€Ł

She looks like she either has no bra on or a badly fitting one. Her boobs are almost down to the waistband of her trousers.

Talent and intelligence? They may be obvious to you but I have yet to see evidence.

In the course of my work I dealt with professional people - the nearest I got to the likes of AR wax when doing pro bono work in a law centre. If you think I worked for a wide range of people you are much mistaken.

Regarding Angela Rayner’s talent and intelligence, GSM, the facts speak for themselves.
I’m surprised you haven’t encountered all sorts of people if you worked in a pro bono law centre. What were you doing? Cherry picking only the suitably-dressed clients?

I have yet to come across someone else on GN who was a partner in a City law firm.

Ah well. nice to end the evening with a chuckle.

That quote from GSM has to win the award for the most absurd and patronising quote ever on Gransnet!!!!

I would say that a greener colour would have contrasted with her hair beautifully

I'm starting to wonder if I have seen the same picture?

Those look like flowy trousers impacted by the windy weather

Her boobs look appropriately placed on her body

Where is there any "tart"

Genuinely baffled

JaneJudge Fri 05-Jul-24 21:57:43

Although it seems it’s ok for a teacher or office worker to dress like a tart in a spearmint trouser suit đŸ€·â€â™€ïž

JaneJudge Fri 05-Jul-24 21:55:51

I don’t think it was in any way tarty

LucyAnna2 Fri 05-Jul-24 21:54:06

I appreciate that the majority on GN didn’t have to adhere to a strict dress code
How on earth do you know what we all wore in our working lives?

Delila Fri 05-Jul-24 21:53:18

Why does Angela Rayner concern you so much, GSM? She obviously has talent and intelligence, yet you ignore those qualities to attack superficialities like her dress-sense and accent. You must have come across a wide range of people in your work - how have you dealt with such personal prejudices?

Isthepopecatholic Fri 05-Jul-24 21:52:51

Agreed.

lemsip Fri 05-Jul-24 21:50:43

it would be good if the op and others put photos of themxelves on here so others can judge

Cossy Fri 05-Jul-24 21:50:24

I thought it was a ghastly colour, but she was well groomed, poor choice of material, but she had been up all night.

Anyway, definitely nothing like a tart, and as for her “professionalism” let’s wait and see. Maybe with some support and assistance she’ll grow into her role.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 05-Jul-24 21:49:23

I have yet to come across someone else on GN who was a partner in a City law firm. I had to dress accordingly (and, Casdon, that doesn’t constitute being up myself).. I expect the deputy PM to dress to similar standards and don’t consider that unreasonable. She’s not a teacher or an office worker - in the absence of the PM she is in charge of the country.

westendgirl Fri 05-Jul-24 21:43:34

GSM, of course you are entitled to your opinion but surely you do not have to be so unkind in expressing it ?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 05-Jul-24 21:36:31

GSM I hazard a guess that you are not the only GN member to work in a professional setting

I am still involved with our SME, and have on occasions been caught unawares dress wise, it hasn’t impaired my judgement or my professionalism.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 05-Jul-24 21:36:04

My serious suits were smart and edgy. But always appropriate. Never crumpled as though I’d slept in them, no matter how long the day. You can do a lot with accessories too. You don’t have to wear bright colours to be noticed among the men in sober suits.

I m gobsmacked by your cattiness GSM
I have always despised AR. She is devoid of taste, class and manners. Her choice of clothing today shows her for what she
Good grief what’s wrong with you GSM !
this sheer bitchiness is totally uncalled for and says more about you than her

The usual ‘says more about me’. Perhaps it does. I worked in a professional setting for my entire career, and there was a dress code. If you are a professional person you adhere to it. It is what’s expected. I appreciate that the majority on GN didn’t have to adhere to a strict dress code but that is no excuse for not understanding the importance of it in a professional setting. I dressed stylishly and certainly not frumpishly. AR has not taken on board the importance of how you are perceived as a professional woman. It’s not a fashion parade but you can still dress fashionably, attractively, but within the bounds of what the world expects of a professional woman. Whether she will ever learn the lesson I don’t know, but I’m not optimistic.

You really are up yourself tonight. Stop being so patronising, you’re not special, many of us were professionals, many of us had jobs as senior as yours, had to dress for work in appropriate clothes and follow business etiquette. She was wearing a trouser suit, in an unusual colour, and a white shirt. It was not tight or revealing. It would not be my choice. However, it does not constitute dressing like a tart, and there was no call for you to be so denigrating.

Curlywhirly Fri 05-Jul-24 21:33:12

Haven't read all this, but gather AR called a tart. Disgusted.

How is wearing a trousers suit with a blouse tarty? It's not. She was covered head to toe in clothes. This thread is unkind and bitchy - shame on you.

BlueBelle Fri 05-Jul-24 21:32:45

Gosh I always thought the NHS had a strict dress code silly me I must be a tart

Delila Fri 05-Jul-24 21:32:18

This is a thread that will appear in the newspapers one day, "old women badmouthing other (younger) women".
'Twas ever thus.
Rather sad.

Yes, very sad, and some shocking, unacceptable comments.

merlotgran Fri 05-Jul-24 21:29:34

No one commented on Boris Johnson’s hair which always looked a mess

Eh??

Were you living in a cave at the time?

Deedaa Fri 05-Jul-24 21:26:06

I can only think that GSM hasn't met many working tarts. Their professional dress code seems to require a lot more flesh on show. I loved the colour of Angela's suit and it made a change from the usual "I'm really a very serious business woman, look at my serious suit" look that they usually go for.
