Ageism is what I would call it. Here they would sue- we are like the USA that way.

Why can't they just give you the damned stuff with a standard warning "if symptoms persist, consult your doctor"?

As a generalisation, people above whatever-the-age-limit is are usually well-versed in various ailments like thrush, UTIs, etc. and are sensible about infections and the like.

Great that pharmacists can now prescribe for simple ailments - but obviously if you're over a certain age, it's no help at all so we're back to the 8am-'phone-on-the-day', econsult (time consuming) or trying to get non-existent appointments.

I feel a dress and a bonnet is the correct attire for a decent, impactful flounce.

"Well fiddle-de-Dee, Mr. Pharmacist" is a good parting shot, too.

There is an age limit on a few medications I was refused Chloraphenical eye drops at Boots because I was ‘too old’ went straight over to Superdrug and was served them without an ask but had already decided to knock 20 years off if they asked

The paracetamol is the daftest thing ever Calandergirl you can get enough to kill you in a couple of pharmacies or going round twice and putting a hat on the second time or having a friend with you it’s totally ridiculous

I bought a product in B&Q using the self checkout last week, and a screen notice came up to call for an assistant.

When she came, she clicked on something and it said

She looked me up and down very carefully. I was thrilled as I am 76.

My son was with me and he thought it was hilarious. He is also over 18.

I had this problem in Boots, what annoyed me was that Caneston was on the shelf to buy but the cheaper own make was behind the pharmacy counter where you had to ask and be refused if over 60.

I expect they are covering their own backsides in case of any legal comeback?

That makes sense.

The management and treatment of vaginal thrush in the elderly (65+ years, 'medically' speaking) has to be considered alongside potential comorbidities and drug interactions.

All the more reason for us to be able get appointments with our GPs without all the hassle, faff and fuss that some of us have to go through.

It would be much better to put a scull and cross bones warning on the pack. Anymore than 8 a day can be fatal. Not many people know that.

Where else would you use it? The assistant was inappropriate...

You can get thrush in warm moist areas, armpit, groin, under breasts etc

i just bought this from Tesco for my OH for a groin rash - internet order, no questions asked. He is 76.

There a reason why there an age requirement. They're not being difficult on purpose. Thrush type symptoms in 'older' ladies can be signs of diabetes or undiagnosed kidney problems (amongst others).

Lying to a trained pharmacy counter assistant can set yourself up for more problems in the future.

It's unfortunate the assistant 'shrugged' but he was very likely at the end of his rope for the day. It's a thankless job.

Yes, I find this intensely irritating. If you want enough "Day and Night" cold and flu treatment or paracetamol for two people you can't buy everything you need in one go. This was particularly irritating during Covid when I was only shopping when I absolutely had to go.
I'm aware that it is done to stop people accumulating drugs for suicide, but as you say you can simply visit more shops to get them.

Yes, this is just typical. You can't always get the generic ibuprofen or paracetamol off the shelf either, the branded one is sometimes quadruple the price. The generic version of Loratadine, the hayfever product which works best for me, is often not on the shelves either.
I tend to buy with my online grocery order and keep a stock.
