British so-called Summers are the pits! 144 seasons in one day, if your stupid enough to think you can 'plan' anything it'll go wrong, and then you can't sleep on airless nights so you spend the following 24hrs just being CRABBY!

Just saying......

Good grief 2 days of sunshine and we have the big old moan
Perhaps you should consider moving to Iceland

Bea65 Fri 19-Jul-24 03:52:58

It’s called Summertime 🌞

Bellasnana Fri 19-Jul-24 04:52:44

19°C is nothing! It was 38°C here in Malta yesterday and 27°C during the night! 🙄

BlueBelle Fri 19-Jul-24 05:22:36

People love a moan here Bellasnana especially if it gets a reaction 🤣🤣🤣

At 19 degrees I still put a blanket over my 9 tog duvet. I love summer.

Grandma70s Fri 19-Jul-24 06:25:32

I agree, hot nights are even worse than hot days. I don’t like summer at all. Dreaming of autumn and crisp cool comfortable days and nights. It’s easy to get warm in winter, but very difficult to get cool in summer.

The secret to sleep on a hot night is a slow, cool fan directed onto your face/head. It really does work.

I don’t feel the cold, and consequently feel extra warm in hot weather and have used this method for years.

My fan has a timer which is handy too.

Bridie22 Fri 19-Jul-24 07:08:20

Long may it shine, its heaven just finally some warmth in my bones...we know it won't last, but enjoy it while we can !

BlueBelle Fri 19-Jul-24 07:10:14

Oh for heavens sake how can you wish a season like summer away it brings happiness, brightness, warmth (yes warmth we rarely get heat more than a few days) children outside playing laughing and happy people smiling and talking
In a brilliant year we may get a good month, out of 12 in a summer like this we get odd days but as soon as the sun shines the moaning and groaning starts
If you can’t take heat hide away for the few odd days, with your ice jacket on, but don’t wish it away for those of us that long for a few days of warmth in our bones, a few days to smile and feel alive.
It’s been cold, raining, grey and windy for months and months and months give us a few days PLEASE

At 3am I think that the OP was overtired and her reaction was understandable - give a little everyone - be kinder.

Bridie22 Fri 19-Jul-24 07:21:21

I didn't think I was being " unkind" !

Lived abroad quite a lot, so my tips for cooler night. find out that old hot water bottle and fill with very cold water and put a couple of ice cubes in it. then you can rest your feet on it, which is lovely and cooling. No hot water bottle left? then get those little blue freezer packs for lunch boxes, wrap in towel and do the same with that. before you go to bed put cold or very cool water in a basin or bowl and rest hands and up to wrists in it for a while. Then pat dry and off to bed. Get clean flannel, put in very cold water, squeeze out gently and put into a plastic bag and again on a blue freezer pack beside your bed. Then when needed take out of bag and put across your forehead and close your eyes. . Shut curtains early in the day and when weather cools (if it does!) open windows and slightly open curtains so that you get the breeze through cold water or fruitjuice that has been in the fridge , put into thermos flask and put by the bed so that when you are awake and thirsty you can have cool drink. Do have a very thin sheet over you, as it will stop wretched flies landing on you and also gives you the more usual sense of a covering if that is what you are used to doing.if the evening cools down take a stroll round the garden just before you go to bed so that you are already cooling down , or put a chair outside and sit in the cool and let yourself calm and cool down. Hope these are some ideas that might help

have a nice cool bath before you go to bed.

Run a shallow luke warm bath, get in, turn the tap round and let the bath gradually fill with cold water, until you can sink right under it. Lie there for about 30 mintes while your whol body cools to the core.

Get out and just air dry and then go to bed. You should get 5 hours sleep before your body heats up enough to wake you.

I assume you do not have anything to do all day except lounge about watching everyone else working? I think I once heard it referred to as BenidormBrain?

nanna8 Fri 19-Jul-24 08:15:41

19 C is cold for us at night in Summer. It is very cold here this Winter ( for us) No one where I live believes in global warming, we haven’t had a hot Summer for years. More global changing and shifting, as it has been since the beginning of time.

That’s just bloody rude mae13

LisaAN Fri 19-Jul-24 08:19:47

Actually agree with OP. Am sitting here with a sheen of sweat on my face and the day has only just started. How people do not get sweaty in these temperatures I don’t know.

LisaAN Fri 19-Jul-24 08:20:42

To clarify, I agree with her original post …

Bridie22 Fri 19-Jul-24 08:21:54

Wow mae13, that was dam right rude, uncalled for and unkind!!!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 19-Jul-24 08:23:02

I prefer blue sky, sun and warmth as opposed to grey sky, wind, rain and cold any day 🌞🌞🌞

NotSpaghetti Fri 19-Jul-24 08:23:11

mae13 - do you have a decent fan?
If the air is moving I think it ferls better. 19⁰ should be OK really I think. You can always but a damp sheet over a clothes horse where the fan will catch it, that helps.

Maybe you are unwell?
Keep your curtains closed today - it's expected to be 29⁰ here!

Perhaps YOU should........

I do. Not yet been hot enough to need to do this this summer, but I have done it in previou summers, when we have had prolonged hot periods and my body feels like it is being overwhelmed by heat.

DD does a straight forward cold bath, but I haven't the nerve for that, she is a wild swimmer, and start with a lukewarm bath. and cool myself gently.
