Good Morning Sunday 21st July 2024

Good morning from a dawning Bristol. No rain (what we had yesterday was minute) but temperatures settling back to sub-20C.
I had an extraordinary encounter yesterday. I went to DD’s church to support her open church/tower visits, part of the Bristol Harbour Festival. She was very surprised to see (must have forgotten that I said would go) and said that she had just texted me. She then ran out of the church and shouted to someone “Mum’s here”!. The woman turned round and came back. She is only a first cousin last seen about 30 years ago and lost touch. I must mention that I have over 40 first cousins, all over the world; keeping contact is hard as I have never met most of them…
So this cousin lives in nearby Cleveden and is keen to renew acquaintance. Her mother, my aunt, was very kind to me when I first came to England.
Curiously, in the evening at DD’s, we were joined by another first cousin, this time fromNZ. She was very kind to DD’s dDD and family when they went on DD’s sabbatical, only to be cut short by lockdown.
Quiet day today, church then rest, 8 think. I had another dreadful night and the coming week is set to be very busy.

Good morning Mick, grandMattie and all who follow, it's a warm start to the day here in the Black country after nonstop rain from early evening.
DH fishing today hence the early start, I have no plans as yet will see how I feel after breakfast.
How lovely to meet up with a cousin I could pass mine in the street and not know, I have spent more time with a distant cousin from Canada than my home grown ones some who I have never met.

Good morning from a cloudy, breezy Torbay but at least it’s not raining, unlike yesterday when it was continuous until mid afternoon.

How lovely to meet up with your cousins, grandMattie! I last saw the two with whom I have contact at my wedding to olddudders in 2015. My favourite Irish one (my father was from Holywood, N.I.) died in Canada last year.

Early service at church then a trip to Asda later to collect a kettle I’ve ordered as the switch on my current one isn’t reliable. Naturally, since the order was placed, the current (pardon the pun!) one is working most of the time!

I hope Bellasnana reached Naples without difficulty and any travellers reached destinations safely.

Good morning everyone from an overcast and damp Northampton, although my BBC weather app says it should be bright and sunny....

Had a nice walk to the garden centre yesterday where I enjoyed cake and coffee before collecting my order from a retail outlet. I had a browse around the outdoor plant area and found packs of 20 bedding plants reduced to £2! So I bought a colourful pack of busy lizzies, which I planted in pots by my front door when I got home. They looked a bit leggy and limp at first, but seem to be reviving now.

Going into town to the cinema at lunchtime to see a film called 'Thelma', starting Dame Maggie Smith. Shall have a mooch around the shops afterwards, as there are one or two things I need in town.

Home to a roast pork dinner.

That's amazing gMattie! I only have 2 first cousins in the world. One in NZ and one in Australia. Lots of 2nd and 3rd cousins though and I borrow DH's family who live nearby.
My poor sore dog bitten hand is still very swollen and red. It's lost its wrinkles. Botox anyone! It is slowly improving with the penicillin.

My DS and family took me out to tea yesterday. The DGC are a tonic as ever. Their little dog doesn't bite people.

Good morning from Naples where it is a pleasant 24°C at present rising to 32°C later.

Thank you Ash, the journey was straightforward after a lot of standing around waiting. We actually arrived an hour late but my niece and her husband were there waiting for me so I was very happy to see them.

Spent the rest of the day catching up and sitting in their lovely garden watching their three sweet cats playing or flaked out in the heat!

I have slept better than at home in a very comfy bed, huge room with my own en suite so my fears of disturbing anyone in the night were fruitless.

Lovely for you GM to see your cousins.

I’ve a busy few days ahead with DD1 and the DGSs visiting, I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone. I’ll be picking them up from the airport at lunchtime and then coming back here for a family afternoon as DD2 and family are also coming round. I’m hoping it stays dry and the children can all play out in the garden

Good morning from an overcast W Kent. I am cooking lunch for 12 with help from DD1. She is off home tomorrow but we have enjoyed having her and Dsil and GS4 even for a short while. DD2 did a lovely spread yesterday and we sat in her garden and enjoyed a good catch up.

Good morning from bright but cloudy south Glos where yesterday’s rain was very welcome.
DS and his family are here, it’s lovely catching up with them.
We had a lovely lunch at a pub in the next village, it’s up for new management so I do hope it doesn’t change too much.

Good morning from a dull Cambs, it was another very warm night. A quiet day today just us and the garden which will be lovely.

Off to the Norfolk coast tomorrow for two days with DD2 her other half and the little ones and hoping the weather will be kind to us.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. The sun is shining here and it’s going to be very warm. I slept really badly last night so will probably need a catch up sometime today.
DS and I had a lovely day yesterday; a very nice lunch at the pub in the bottom of the valley and then a walk. He left to go back to York about six and shortly afterwards I went over the road to join my neighbour for a drink. It was her birthday. Six of our other neighbours were also there and it was a very jolly evening.
Today I plan to do very little. DD and the menfolk leave for their holiday in Canada tomorrow. I shall miss them sorely for the next two weeks but as long as they have a fabulous time that’s all that matters.

Good morning from a sunny cooler South Downs.

Nothing planned to day which is good to know - so garden here I come! Next month is the beginning of the spring bulb planting season😡 I need much more summer first!

Next door has a large elder tree and last evening from my bedroom I could see at least 5 wood pigeons feasting on what looked like still green elderberries. They will get stomach ache I would have thought.

I think the skin cancer has returned on my face, which is a pain. I will leave it a while to see what progresses and then if necessary contact the doctor to see if I can get an appointment.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It should be reasonably warm, but who knows.

Church this morning at the smallest church in the Benefice.

Then lunch at an Italian followed by the cinema. We will be watching a play live from the National Theatre - Present Laughter by Noel Coward, with Andrew Scott playing the main role. It should be interesting.

Good morning from s somerset, it should be dry and sunny but it is raining

I have changed my plans because of the weather, so will continue plodding on with making my new coat, maroon twill with a colourful cotton lining. I ordered a zip last night, which will arrive today. The instructions are in small squashed writing and very sparse. An ottobre pattern from 11 years ago, keeps my brain occupied

DPD have lost my large heavy parcel to my DS, contains lots of carving equipment, nothing sharp. I did not insure it as I have never had a problem with dpd. Worst thing was trying to get contact with them, poxy AI systems via chat, telephone etc, sending me into loops, same old information repeated time after time. It is consuming my mind as that stuff was precious but I am trying to move on and still have my fingers crossed that it might be found. Enquiry is in process

We had a lovely day with DGS3 and DGD1 yesterday. They are sparky and lively but seem to like coming here for a catch up here and a curry over the road. They are about to do GCSEs and A Levels, so lots to catch up on.

Today, we will drop them back to the train station then have a lazy day to recover.

Good morning all and it’s a beautiful start to the day here at the Suffolk coast. The moon last night was huge and orange. Anyone know what its name is? It shone over the sea as we walked back from our local pub.
The carvery was as delicious as ever . Our friend (Parkinsons) was very wobbly and nearly fell but Dh and our other friend held on to him and all was well.

Today we’ll go with the flow , gardening, reading and dog walking. Probably go to the forest as it’s cooler there for little pooch.

Morning, high cloud in S Hampshire, not a good nights sleep. Painful Grammaretto hope the antibees carry on working. Yesterday saw my son and partner briefly, they were borrowing a soup whizzer, I need to make sure it comes back!
I’ll pick up MrJ this afternoon and we’ll call in at a Crohns charity day being held in our local, there’s live music and an ice cream van, hope it stays dry for them all.

Good morning from an overcast Cornwall. A delightful time with my granddaughter yesterday; she learnt a new crochet stitch which was tricky but she's good at persevering. Today I'll take a walk to stretch my new knee. I'd like to get to church at 4o'clock, haven't been for weeks, but suspect I'll be resting with my feet up by then, watching a film instead. Next week maybe...

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 10° and dry. It looks as if it was very wet during the night. The bird bath is overflowing. Whitewave don't wait to long before you get it seen to. Karma what a nuisance for you! GrandMattie two meetings with cousins on the same day! How nice to catch up.
Yesterday I did a food shop at Aldi where they had some nice food on stock. I then rehoovered the car and cleaned the upholstery. I did a little weeding, stripped the bed and got it dried outside, ironed and back on. It's my favourite set this summer - all flowers. Lots of domestic stuff.
Today I'm looking after dgs2 for a couple of hours while dgs1 is at a party. Dsil is working. I shall enjoy that. Before that, I must make cookies for the boys to take with me. Later I'll visit mum. Have a good day all.

Another sunny Suffolk day….good morning.

We are off to Ipswich for lunch with DS and family. It is DGD3’s 14th birthday on Tuesday and we are having a BBQ I think. She had an early birthday picnic with her friends yesterday. I imagine the roads will be busy but in the opposite direction from us.

I hope today is a good one for all.

Good morning from a dry but cloudy NE.
Yesterday was mild but cloudy most of the day.
I had a lazy day, just watched TV and made easy meals, dinner was a vegetarian spaghetti bolognese.
DIL went off to collect a car door yesterday. The rear passenger door of her mini needs replacing and she found exact colour and model online while we were on holiday. Bit awkward without the second car as they live in a village and GD has to get to work where her shift finishes at 11pm. She is only insured to drive the mini and her dad's car is a big automatic.
My younger sister returned from holiday yesterday, she took a break before she starts treatment tomorrow. She had a routine blood test the other week and found she was vitamin B12 deficient and has to have injections for the rest of her life. I was surprised because I am the one with all the digestive problems.

My usual Sunday mornings have been disrupted by a change in Mass times over the summer holidays. I have to be out an hour earlier now which I’m not used to yet. I must be more set in my ways than I’d like to admit to.

DH and I are looking forward to a late lunch/early dinner at our local Italian restaurant, the food is usually good.
