My Glasgow garden today. It is glorious here.

In Scotland now, we managed a damp 3 hour hike today.
Somehow the beautiful wild raspberries we picked and ate en route compensated for the weather.

We recently were on vacation in central BC. It started out cool (it seems everyone had a cool spring!), but then turned very hot, over 30 degrees. We found it hard to live in, but everyone there has air conditioning, and our friends have a pool, which is a luxury.

We were happy to come home to our 20 degree overcast weather on the north coast. It is typical here for summer. To me a perfect day is around 23 with sun shining.

I do understand now why in the past rich people had summer homes in the mountains; it would bring relief from the months of heat.

My SiL lives near Glasgow. Every time I have visited her it has rained I can't remember it not. I have been up twice in last few months. Both times very wet, I only see the area via windscreen washers.

The last time she was down visiting us in the South of England she had to buy a pair of Sunglasses, she told me she can't recall having a pair for decades, never needed to wear them.

My Late MiL and my DH family lived south of Edinburgh by the sea, now that had much better weather. Weather truly comes in from the West.

A Turkish neighbour who used to live in Antalya, told dh yesterday that his wife, who’d gone back for a holiday, is coming back early because it’s too hot. High 30s I think.

And I still recall a couple of 40s Italians we gave a lift to a couple of years ago, in Cornwall. They said they’d come more than once in summer to get away from the heat back home. (In fact it was a hot summer that year in the UK, by our standards anyway.)

They even told us that one summer they’d thoroughly enjoyed walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall.
‘What?’ said I. ‘Complete with damp and chilly drizzle?’
‘Yes, but that was why we liked it!’ 😂

As an aside a lot of travellers are avoiding main land Europe because of the high temperatures.

If you say so Grammaretto, I've been half a dozen times, the good weather was clearly hiding. Last time we were up with friends in Edinburgh we went off to Oban for 3 days, cold and wet in fact freezing in August rain lashed down like stair rods for those 3 days almost constantly

I love Provence, I have cousins in Aix en Provence, it was one of a handful of places I found truly stunning when I first clapped eyes on it. Yes! probably too hot for me now, my ideal these days would be mid twenties. We usually get a reasonably good summer in the south, but disappointingly wet this year.

It's not even a well kept secret that our Scottish weather can be fantastic and doesn't put people off.
Just look at the tribes of visitors pouring over the Skye bridge every day.

I,ve never been a sun worshiper OREO wouldn,t thank you for really hot days .I used to burn even in our “Low” temperature summers ,I avoid the sun at all costs .When I say. Burn I mean blister if I.min the sun for longer than half an hour…..very fair skin.Its good we,re not all the same though My SIL loves that he can drive to a ski resort in under an hour from his west of Scotland home and view the Aurora from his own front door.He still manages to get a dark tan on the summer days we have

I like around 26c in Summer, and a dry heat rather than humid.

21° is plenty hot enough for me. Sadly I bought some lovely summer outfits back in June. I've worn one of them once

My friends who moved to western Australia couldn't let their DC outside in the summer, it was far too hot

Scotland is a great place for holidays if you're outdoorsy and don't like to burn or swelter.
You can acquire a healthy tan and be out in the sun and wind all day, whereas in great heat you'd be trying to avoid it.

21 is hardly warm enough Paddyann54 that’s a nice Spring day only.
Am happy to live in the South of England where we usually have a good Summer.

Yet St Andrews is the Sunniest place in Britain or is it Scotland?

When I was a teenager we lived on the east coast of Fife and I rarely took my cardigan off during the summer and sitting outside was a rarity.

I have no idea why I did not die from hypothermia when I went swimming in the sea at St. Andrews.

All joking aside, we've sat out in our garden quite a few times this year. It's not all doom and gloom north of the border, honestly!

The weather isn,t nearly as bad as it’s made out to be.I don’t like hot weather so maybe it’s just me but we sit outwith our fire pit until 2am quite often,dry weather is all we ned.My lovely son in law who hails from the Bath area says he,ll never move back south.There are wonderful long summer days daylight until just shy of midnight and it’s light again before 3am.Its rarely warmer than 21 which suits me fine though it always rains in July .We spent yesterday on Loch Lomondside. where there were folk from all over the world enjoying themselves one family from Holland told us they visited every year for the past 16 years.If it was really awful weather I,m sure they wouldn,t keep coming back.

Witzend that could be true. Here in Belfast I have not worn any summer things for 2 years. I start each day in 3 layers including a heavy woollen jumper. Heat is on for a bit every day.Its quite autumnal today.

It can be glorious in Scotland. My DD is just home from the far North West. They had beaches to themselves but warm and Sunny.
Another friend is back from Harris with gorgeous pictures.

It is unpredictable though so many people gravitate to the Mediterranean because of guaranteed sun and no rain for 3 months.

I’m reminded of a Glaswegian housemate I shared with before I was married. She told me that back home she never wore any actual summer clothes, just fewer winter ones.
I do hope that’s not the case for everybody!

Another Glaswegian friend (we were expats) told me that despite having a lovely garden back home, they never sat out in it - never warm enough.
Surely that can’t invariably be true? Lately when it’s been chilly and pouring down south, I’ve seen much better weather on the forecast for Scotland.

It's certainly very grey and dank here today but it's also unpleasantly muggy.
Sometimes May and September can be nice here. I love October November in Edinburgh. Gold leaves against bright blue skies and old grey buildings.
