Miserable “Childless Cat Ladies”

J.D.Vance causes a stir with this comment resurfacing.
My DD is childfree as they call it now and perfectly happy (without cats).
Wouldn’t have missed out on children myself but what are your thoughts?
Love my cat and it’s an insult to them…

Kamala actually has two stepchildren from her 2014 marriage, but that wasn't good enough, he wants women to do their biological duty and those who didn't were subject to 2021 remark,

"In the 2021 interview, Vance told Carlson that the country was being run “by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too.” He further lamented, “You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children.”"

💁

Has nobody told him that there is a slight possiblity that people without children did not willingly not have them, but were unable for some or other good reason?

Or that people without children perhaps, just perhaps, have more time to devote to a job, or doing their civic duty?

Or mentioned that there is no reason why a country should be disadvantaged because most of its politicians never became parents?

Unfortunately, this is probably only the "First blast of the trumpet against the monsterous regiment of women" to quote a man for whom I have not, and never have had, any respect at all.

Well-educated women had little respect for John Knox in his own lifetime (1524-1572) and the world has moved on a little since then, except, apparently, in the most stupid male society.

People who have bred children need to remember that they are living upon the grace (eg taxes paid by) those who are child free.

At the moment of their conception it is extremely unlikely that the parents were actually thinking of the children, but rather of their own pleasure.

So in a very real sense the childfree are paying for others to f**k and have fun.

What a disgusting comment.

Cats are beautiful intelligent creatures but I dont have any either and have never wanted one. Keeping a pet which requires companionship when you are out at work for 8 hours a day is thoughtless and cruel.

So they might be but I've never wanted one either.

However, they might be easier to bring up than children! Or dogs.

If history follows form then Vance will find like Mike Pence once he is in he won't have the power he imagines. and then, to top it all after years of mostly silent VP life,

Trump "threw Pence under the bus" as Pence was in the Capitol building when it was invaded and his life at risk and rioting occurred.

Trump is getting on a bit, though.
And is not always making sense when he speaks. If Vance did become VP (heaven forbid) and something happened to Trump he'd step up until a new leader was elected.

What a silly comment. Presumably meant to be tongue in cheek. Surely you can accept that when you require the services of the medical profession, plumbers, electricians, shop staff etc that they were all somebody’s children.

My daughter is an NHS nurse who has worked herself into poor health in recent years due to the state of the health service. But she keeps on going even when caring for cantankerous individuals who are downright rude.

Vance is disgusting. Aside from those who choose to remain child free or cannot have children for whatever reason (and despite tries via IVF which he opposes) his comment is a slur on those of us whose only child died in infancy. I hope he goes to the bottom of the dustbin of history with the equally repellant Trump.

I'm not keen on cats (they scare me) but if I had to choose between cats and Vance I'd choose 🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈 any day.

Biglouis, usually when I am reading a thread and your name comes up, I expect to see a nasty comment or two, this time you excelled yourself!

In what way is it a disgusting comment? It is, for me, an expression of how biglouis feels.

Tuaim Thu 25-Jul-24 14:11:33

Some people feel that children are just not for them. Better to live your life childless through choice than be forced to live up to some ideal set in place by society. Not all of us are motherly by nature or good at baking come to that.

BlueBelle Thu 25-Jul-24 14:25:18

Wow BigLouis is this really you’re thought pattern ? if so it’s sick that is a real cruel untrue and vindictive sounding comment to make
So glad we ve never met

A deeply unpleasant original post.
Those who are cared for in their last hours of need, would probably disagree with you.

If people choose to not have children then I would respect that choice and not call them " miserable cat ladies" as Vance did. They are entitled to their choice as I am entitled to mine.
I have four children who work in jobs that benefit the community. NHS, Education, government. They all pay taxes which benefits everyone.
We would be in a sorry state if nobody had children.

You forget that when you grow old you will be drawing a state pension, using the NHS, relying on lots of people younger than you to work in shops, make things you buy, mend roads, drive buses, grow food etc.

With no workers younger than you there will be no taxes, no pension, no healthcare, no food,

One of the major problems facing society at the moment is that, world wide birthrates have fallen to replacement level and in many cases, well below and already governments are talking about people having to work well into their 70s and older before they can draw pensions, of pensions being lower than they are now and medical care restricted.

It is you that needs to remember that your current income and confort is dependent on the taxes and work being done by other people's children and grandchildren.

Your last remark just shows your ignorance. Nowadays most people use contraception most of he time and only cease to use it when they are seeking to become pregnant, which means that the possibility of conceiving a child is very much on their mind at the time they do so.

Syracute Thu 25-Jul-24 14:40:39

Well he also just wished out of existence my niece and nephew who are IVF children .
He has no question lost a lot of votes for Trump with that one ! I wonder what Republicans that have used or would like to use IVF think of Trump now .

pascal30 Thu 25-Jul-24 14:42:13

very good points Monica

Wheniwasyourage Thu 25-Jul-24 14:50:16

Let’s hope he loses votes for Trump. 🤞

Callistemon213 Thu 25-Jul-24 14:52:09

He's definitely lost the votes of all cat-owners too, I would think.
