J.D.Vance causes a stir with this comment resurfacing.
My DD is childfree as they call it now and perfectly happy (without cats).
Wouldn’t have missed out on children myself but what are your thoughts?
Love my cat and it’s an insult to them…

Let’s hope he loses votes for Trump. 🤞

He's doing a good job of losing votes by insulting huge numbers of women.

I think American Democrats are far from Far Left though.

Perhaps by our standards.

It does seem many Americans feel Kamala is far left on social matters.

Some people feel that children are just not for them. Better to live your life childless through choice than be forced to live up to some ideal set in place by society. Not all of us are motherly by nature or good at baking come to that.

If people choose to not have children then I would respect that choice and not call them " miserable cat ladies" as Vance did. They are entitled to their choice as I am entitled to mine.
I have four children who work in jobs that benefit the community. NHS, Education, government. They all pay taxes which benefits everyone.
We would be in a sorry state if nobody had children.

I totally agree with you and your children contribute a huge amount to our society. I think Vance and Trump find any loophole they can to insult the opposition if they are a woman. Some of Trump's comments about women have been downright insulting.

Have you seen what Jennifer Aniston has said about all this? The world is vile to women

Absolutely true.

But why insult those that are?

The fact is that if people stop having children, then as we age there will be no-one to keep the levers of industry and commerce ticking over, so to imply that the childfree are subsiding those with children, is a ridiculous argument. All those now working are somebodies children and they are paying our pensions.

At the end of the day we all form part of the fabric of society and, come what may, there will always be those who agree or disagree, those who do, and those who don't do, our people and not our people. Just wish that those in charge could get it together to make a better world for all of us. I've never known such division in all my years.

Miserable old men who live on their own don’t seem to attract the vituperation that childless married or unmarried women do. I wonder why this is?

Granmarderby10 Thu 25-Jul-24 18:07:42

😉well Stansgran the “Trumper” nutcases would say that if the miserable childless catladies moved in with a man then they wouldn’t be so many miserable old men!
I can personally testify that this is just not true😆

Kamala actually has two stepchildren from her 2014 marriage, but that wasn't good enough, he wants women to do their biological duty and those who didn't were subject to 2021 remark,

"In the 2021 interview, Vance told Carlson that the country was being run “by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too.” He further lamented, “You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children.”"

💁

I can't work out Pete Buttigieg (USA Transportation Secretary, a male, with children, and spouse) even fits in this horrid comment?

henetha Thu 25-Jul-24 18:38:11

Biglouis... Unpleasant and ridiculous comments from you.

Allsorts Thu 25-Jul-24 18:40:45

Dreadful comment. Some women choose to be childless, some desperate for a child but unable to have one. Others have children who shouldn't. I prefer some animals to people, Vance is one of those people..
Big Louise, I can’t believe you actually think or have said what you have. Another dreadful comment.

People who have bred children need to remember that they are living upon the grace (eg taxes paid by) those who are child free.

At the moment of their conception it is extremely unlikely that the parents were actually thinking of the children, but rather of their own pleasure.

So in a very real sense the childfree are paying for others to f**k and have fun.

And retirees who have never had children need to remember that they are retiring upon benefits that are being funded by those who gave children to their societies (eg paying taxes).

Everyone knows where babies come from.

Macadia Thu 25-Jul-24 19:13:30

I am all for freedom. Freedom for women to choose if they want to have children or if they don't want to have children. The choice is not a crime and the women are not criminals or shameful citizens for having babies, not having babies, or not being able to have babies. Everyone knows this, too!

Macadia Thu 25-Jul-24 19:15:26

It is not a shameful thing for a man or a woman to have a pet cat or to have a pet dog or to have no dogs. What is this world coming to?

Casdon Thu 25-Jul-24 19:16:10

It’s a sign of a desperate campaign to identify somebody’s marital status or them not having children as a reason not to vote for them. I think the republicans must be running scared.

Fleurpepper Thu 25-Jul-24 19:24:46

Truly vile. I bought a painting many years ago but an artists called Vance in Colorado. Never encountered that name since, made me jump. Viles.

What would they say about Kamala if she'd had children by 3 different men, and had had sex with a porn star?
No wonder she's riding high at the moment. Good luck to her.

I noticed in the paper this morning that Jennifer Aniston has come up with an epithet for JD Vance that will, hopefully, stick.

She is childless despite IVF and she has described Vance as as thick as a brick , a wonderfully alliterative phrase that rolls around the mouth and, with luck he will be stuck with it for the whole campaign.

Do you think Vance and Trump share the same brain cell, or do they have one each?

NotSpaghetti Fri 26-Jul-24 08:11:49

I do hate these personal attacks but like the idea of the "Cat Lady" T shirts. I expect they will become quite popular.

Casdon Fri 26-Jul-24 08:27:41

Particularly if they are in brat green NotSpaghetti. I can see a new fashion trend on the horizon.

NotSpaghetti Fri 26-Jul-24 09:39:31

Ha ha Casdon.

I just came by this in Huffpost (Cole and Ella are her stepchildren and Kerstin is her husband's ex-wife):

In 2019, Harris wrote an essay for Elle in honor of Mother’s Day in which she gushed over Cole and Ella, calling them “brilliant, talented, funny kids who have grown to be remarkable adults” who serve as her “endless source of love and pure joy.”

She said that her stepchildren had dubbed her “Momala,” as a loving way to honor their relationship.

“When Doug and I got married, Cole, Ella, and I agreed that we didn’t like the term ‘stepmom,‘” she wrote. “Instead they came up with the name ‘Momala.’”

The vice president also paid tribute to Kerstin Emhoff in that essay, calling her “an incredible mother.”

“Kerstin and I hit it off ourselves and are dear friends,” she wrote, adding, “We sometimes joke that our modern family is almost a little too functional.”

On Thursday, Ella Emhoff responded to some of Harris’ critics, writing in a text overlay of an Instagram story: “How can you be ‘childless’ when you have cutie pie kids like Cole and I.”

“I love my three parents,” she added.
