Is it odd to not want any family photos on display?

I have a lovely family, 4 children, 4 grandchildren, I’m just not into having photos of them all over the place. In fact, I don’t have any.
Lots of albums full of photos that I look through from time to time, but that’s it.

Just interested in other people’s opinions as I’m beginning to think I’m the only one like this.

It's up to the individual.

We receive framed school photographs of the grandchildren every year so we always have up to date ones on show. We also have many earlier versions in boxes in the spare bedroom.

We also have 3x DC wedding photographs and our wedding photograph on display in the dining room. Also small photo graphs of our parents, and a four generation one with my great grandma, grandma, mum and me aged about 2. I have that close to me on a side table.

I have been instructed to remove graduation photos by my adult DC but I'm not going to.

Is it odd not to want family photos on display? No, we have none. It's down to each person to do as they wish with photos.

I don't have many on display but I notice I'm in very few of our pics. I had to make an effort with my more recently married son as his wife kept examining the couple I have up. I got the hint and now have one of their wedding on show!

Am I the only person who has rolling photos on Alexa? I have 2 Alexa Shows - 1 by the side of the bed and one in the kitchen on a shelf above my main cooking area.

I’ve limited my photographs to my study. Most are of my DGSs, with pics of both DDs weddings. Theresa’s a couple of pics of my late DH, a favourite of his was shaking hands with the late Queen. I hate having my photograph taken, but I have a picture of our wedding on the windowsill.
I know if and when I sell the house, all the photographs will be put out of sight.

Who is Theresa!!
Obs my fat fingers.

Just 2 older framed photos of DH and myself with our DCs when tiny then as teenagers. And one of us a couple.I have done a photo montage of favourite holidays in the spare bedroom the adult DCs if they stay.I am going to do one of our parents and aunts no longer with us. But that's it.We have shutters so our windowsills are narrow. I don't like too much 'stuff' in general. Lots in albums however and on my ipad.My late SIL had so many photos all over her walls that some were even duplicates.Tbh I found it a bit oppressive but they obviously brought her joy so each to their own.

Maybe it depends on how much you like your family and want to be reminded of them?
Personally, I'd regard photos on display as just "clutter" to be dusted and, therefore, I don't have them.
Plenty of pics in albums both real and digital of people and events that I cherish.

Or maybe you remember your loved ones so acutely that you don't need to be reminded! 😂

In hall/living-dining room, I've photos of both my parents as toddlers with their parents, 2 very old formal photos of one pair of great-parents, half a dozen of DGD, and 2 x 6-photo-frame of various family members. Oh and pencil sketches of DD, DS as child and DGD.

DD did me a 6-photo-frame of all the cats we've had - does that count?

Grandmadinosaur Fri 26-Jul-24 17:16:18

Yes we have rolling photos on Alexa too Kitty and on the mantel piece I have a couple of pictures of the grandchildren and one of my grandparents.

I don’t t think it’s odd at all, it’s just your choice. I do have photos (small) out but mostly not in the “public areas”. That’s just my choice. ☺️

Good grief!

Since when was love for one's children measured by how many photos of them are on display?

M0nica Fri 26-Jul-24 17:37:00

I never had anynon display until we moved into our present house, but here I have used family photos as a decor item in one room.

CanadianGran Fri 26-Jul-24 17:46:01

I have a few, but not large, and not in the living room.
I have one frame in the kitchen where the GC's school photos go, and my sister gave me a collage of our family when I turned 50, which I keep in my office at home.

Hallway has a few of past generations, where I can admire my husband's grandmother's shoes (from the 30's), and my Great Grandmother's hat at my Grandmother's wedding. I never knew any of them personally.

I have a few dotted around, some old favourites and some new. I find it comforting to pass a pic of my mum and dad as I go upstairs. I don’t really print many off now and don’t do albums anymore!

That was my point Doodledog
Totally absurd!

Doodledog Fri 26-Jul-24 21:05:25

I know it was - sorry if that wasn't clear grin.

Never has been.

We're done raising children, their pictures are in a box.

I am a fan of having photos of family in lovely frames in quite a few rooms. Sometimes I change them, but always have wedding photos out. I love to see them and see how we have changed over the years as well as recent ones. Each to his own.

Macadia Fri 26-Jul-24 21:52:45

I don't display photos for visitors to my home to see and I don't understand why people do this but if it makes them happy, so be it.

Sara1954 Fri 26-Jul-24 21:59:42

We have many photos on display throughout the house, I love looking at them, I couldn’t possibly estimate how many there are, obviously some of you would think way too many.

MissAdventure Fri 26-Jul-24 22:12:11

I like the ones taken years ago, when everyone had "big hair", and the whole family are posing. 🤭

DillytheGardener Fri 26-Jul-24 22:26:57

I have framed pictures on every surface and every wall. DS and Dil have none except a couple of small framed pictures on their chest of drawers.

Everyone is different!

Ladyripple Fri 26-Jul-24 22:47:33

I have a long low table in my lounge and it is covered in framed photos of my family,I love it.
