Good morning from Cornwall where it's sunny. Perfect weather for my two nephews visiting for the week from London.

Lovely time with long-lost cousin yesterday. Had completely forgotten that his author/actor/vicar dad baptised a very famous English actor's baby aeons ago and the actor sent him a crate of wine every Christmas for years afterwards. After the baptism the actor's friends all stood up and clapped and wept. 😊 My cousin's wife is also an artist so we had lots to talk about.

Today it's our Allotment Summer Show, a really special event my sons and I will go to. At the end there's an auction of all the goods on display. I bought a pea cake last year (imagine courgette cake but with allotment peas instead ha ha). My new knee, four weeks old yesterday, is bearing up well with all this activity, but I fully expect I'll need a traditional day of rest tomorrow! 😂

Good morning Mick and following GNers, a clear sky here too on a hillside in south Glos.
Got the housework done yesterday, four loads of washing ( I did the dog’s blankets as well), all dried nicely.
I have some ironing to do this morning after I walk the dog.
I need to carry on tidying the front borders but it gets so hot out there I can only do it in dribs and drabs 🙄
Nothing much planned for the weekend, I will enjoy sitting outside with a book and a cold drink 😎

Satisfying day yesterday, lovely cycle ride, including some well-mannered drivers overtaking, especially the truck drivers, not so much the car drivers

My sewing room is an utter tip, I must have 40 pins on the floor. I shall be cleaning that room later, starting gingerly with dust pan and brush. I finished my coat, used over 3 bobbins of thread as there was lots of top stitching. It is lined with bright patterned poplin and is twill, parka-like, in maroon with black studs and black chunky zip. Fits well. It was a marathon difficult sew

Apart from cleaning my machine and sewing room, I want to make a pot of soup, I have lots of produce from my garden

Yes, I watched some of the Olympics opening ceremony, too, Mick and was disappointed. It seemed as if the intention was to be as outrageous as possible with the performance of the dancers although it was a novel idea to have the teams floating down the Seine.

Today, I’m going with friends from Toads to watch the matinée of 9 to 5, performed by an amateur company in Teignmouth. It is a musical I haven’t seen before.

You are doing well, Mizuna; being positive is key, I think.

I hope your SIL and GS reached their destination eventually, RosiesMaw2. Sounds like a nightmare.

Good morning Michael and all GNs from a sunny South Yorkshire where I have been awake for hours😩. I don’t plan to do a lot today except clean out the fridge and cook myself a proper meal as I ate very little yesterday. My hopes that my guinea pig guest would help to keep the grass down are coming to nothing. Not only does he not eat very much, he won’t eat in straight lines either😂! So at some stage I may have to drag the mower out! What a disappointment!

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and grey. Ash thank you. My knee is still sore but less so. Mick I watched some of the opening ceremony too but got bored. Mizuna you have a very interesting family.
Yesterday I did very little in an attempt to rest my knee. It's certainly improving but not quite right yet.
Today I'm meeting my friend for breakfast at the local garden centre - our usual haunt. Then I'm looking after the boys for a few hours. Dsil is having to work and DD had a day out planned which she was going to cancel. I don't mind helping out as she rarely goes out without the boys. When I come home, I'll make chicken curry for dinner. And rest the knee again! Have a good day all.

Good morning from a beautiful sunny South Downs.

The garden is moving into its late summer clothing, so the early flush of roses, geraniums, delphiniums and lavender etc have died down and I’m cutting back and now the echinacea, agastache dahlias, phlox and salvias are beginning their show.

Everything is twice the height this year because of the rain. The clematis have flowered snd continuing to flower their socks off. In fact one which was for the chop because it has been ravaged by powdery mildew for years has put on a tremendous show with not a bit of mildew in sight. Bring on the rain they all say!

We also watched the opening ceremony. I think it was disappointing for spectators as really they must have watched 99% of it on a screen. I think an arena is better.

We had a lovely day yesterday catching up with DS and his partner in Edinburgh. It was a long day but definitely worth it. Today, after a really busy week I’m looking forward to a quieter weekend with loads of washing, gardening and tidying to keep me busy.

I’m off to London later. I’m meeting younger son for lunch and then we’re going to the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy. Our annual treat. We may have Knickerbocker Glories at Fortnum’s afterwards!

I watched about five minutes of the opening ceremony last night. OH watched most of it with headphones on while I read a book.

Good morning from a sunny Bristol.
Goodness, I must have been tired; I haven’t slept so well in years! I didn’t stir for eight hours straight.
Our little holiday is over, having been the very first holiday en famille ever. I found I missed DH and my Philip dreadfully.
The day in Hereford was very successful; everyone enjoyed the Mappa Mundi very much; DS was particularly taken with it saying that a lot of it reminded him of Herodotus.
On Thursday evening, DSiL came to take DGD back as she had a rehearsal yesterday with her Bristol Youth Choir before leaving for their German tour last night.
After packing, and cleaning/tidying up to go home, we spent the day in Caerleon. It is a very pretty little town, we saw the amphitheater and went to the little Roman museum and baths.
Lunch al fresco and home. We stopped at the railway station to drop DGS who was returning to Folkestone.
Today is going to be more prosaic - church cleaning, coffee…
DGS is 46 today - he was born the day after Louise Brown, the first test tube baby! It was all over the papers.

Good morning everyone from a sunny mid Essex. I watched a bit of the Olympic opening ceremony yesterday, then went to bingo in the village hall! Won £10 so worth going. Saw the end of the opening ceremony when I got home.
Will spend the day trying to sort out the house and garden as I’m at DD1’s next week looking after the dog. My car is playing up at the moment & will hopefully be fixed next week.
Pleased that mizuna is getting out and about with her new knee and that Gbatty’s knee is improving. Take things easy ladies.
I hope we all have as good a day as possible.

Good morning from sunny Naples where I am all packed and ready to leave for the airport in an hour or so.

I have had a lovely week and enjoyed every minute but will be so happy to see the boys again as I’ve really missed them.

Yesterday we had such a good day traveling from Pozzuoli to Procida by ferry (40 mins) and enjoyed exploring the tiny island, a delicious lunch and relaxing before catching the ferry back in the late afternoon.

I’m rather pleased to know that others found the Olympics opening ceremony somewhat underwhelming as I’ve seen nothing but praise from the majority of people commenting! Personally I found it a tedious mish-mash of weirdness!😂

Good morning from a grey NE, we have thunderstorms forecast for most of the day. I can't imagine why as we have had no hot weather at all. My garden furniture has not been out on the patio this year.
I enjoyed meeting up with my friend but our restaurant meal had a few niggles, quite a few items on the menu were not available and friend's dessert was supposed to be a summer berry mille feuille, it had one blackberry and one blueberry cut in half.
Today DS and GD2 are visiting, first time since returning from holiday.
GD1 will either be working or with her boyfriend as it is his birthday.

Good morning everyone. It’s to be hot hot and hot today it’s bright out there already.
I’ll be playing draughts with my twin sister today it’s a daily thing now.

I did enjoy the opening of the games last night especially the can can which brought back memories to me when I danced the can can at my local primary school when I was on the parents association it was great fun. I also enjoyed the ladies/gents swaying back and forth at a great hight. So brave.

The Parents association was the same as a school governor in England.

I’ll be watching the games today however there’s great controversy when a man who’s transformed into a woman wins in the woman’s games, after all they can be so much stronger- it doesn’t seem fair or so some seem to think

I'm lying in bed trying to come to, after little sleep. The foreign family next door chatted all night long! 😡

Our day didn't start well. Our train was cancelled due to a signalling fault, as was DD's. We had planned to meet for breakfast, but ended up grabbing food on the go.
The weather was lovely yesterday and all we seemed to do was walk, eat and drink!
DD and SIL offered to go and buy water for my medication last night, while we returned to the hotel. On passing the back door of Primark, DH asked if I would like a quick look.
It didn't quite work that day. The store layout is very confusing and we ended up going up and down lifts and escalators, without looking at anything.🤣
DD and SIL were already back at the hotel, thinking that something had happened to us!
Unfortunately I haven't yet visited TKMaxx.😭

Today we will wander where the wind takes us, perhaps give the trams a shot. Who knows?

Another here who found the Olympics ceremony underwhelming got bored after an hour found a book to read, much prefer ceremonies in a stadium.
Had a lovely day yesterday with the boys we went to Tamworth, a great time in the castle elder Dgs has been doing the Saxons at school so enjoyed dressing in the costumes. We then had lunch and spent a couple of hours in castle grounds play area.
Today our friends are coming later and we shall go to the club.

Good morning all and it’s another sunny one. Weve been so lucky with our two weeks here at the Suffolk seaside.

Had a lovely day with my two brothers, nephew and sister in law. They love coming here but didn’t stay over as they have commitments at the weekend. While here db2 had a call from the hospital to say his heart bypass op will be 6th august. NHS. Brilliant! He was thinking of going down the private route. The cost is eye watering!

Coffee in the garden and then we
walked to the pub for a nice lunch (not outstanding but acceptable) and then back for SIL’s apple pie and cream. A short walk along the beach and a cuppa in the summerhouse and off they went by teatime. Perfect.

Today we have a tip run as we’re off back to Essex tomorrow and have a fair bit of rubbish. Dh will go to footie this afternoon and I’ll clear the house and leave it clean and tidy for our return in a few weeks.

Good morning from a lovely sunny Suffolk, so much better than the rain last night in Paris.

We too watched most of the opening ceremony and we pleased we were in the comfort of our own home and not on the banks of or a bridge over the Seine. The singers especially Celine Dion were the best bits for us.

We shall be taking the dog out shortly for a walk through the small wood nearby and then a restful day probably indoors or in the summerhouse. Neither of us does well in the heat.

Hoping today is a good one for all.

I too was underwhelmed by the Olympics opening ceremony and baffled by an apparent focus on men in drag but realise I am increasingly out of touch, though DGD1 wasn’t impressed either. Delighted to have her here and must decide what to do today though I do have a few little jobs including turning out the airing cupboard and binning quite a lot of its contents - I can no longer reach the top shelf, which is why the job has been left too long. I rather like tasks like this which enable the sort of conversation which doesn’t happen face to face but rather side by side. Meanwhile I hope we all have a satisfactory Saturday.

I’ve a lot of tidying to do outside today and in my garage. I’ve a tip run booked for next week and I want to put my garden chairs back where they belong.
