Hi. Anyone else with Octopus energy. Have you switched to the tracker tariff on offer ? I’m unsure what to do for the best. Thanks

Georgesgran Tue 10-Sept-24 11:39:33

You’ll pay the price you sign up to from the date your current contract ends. I signed up to a new lower tariff early last month, but the unit prices (and standing charges) won’t change until 18/9.

I wouldn’t take a tracker on energy, get your best fixed contract, if Ukraine or indeed Gaza gets nasty energy could get very expensive.

Sorry to sound dim-witted, but if I switch today I will be paying a higher rate immediately won't I, not from when the price change on October 1st? I wonder if it is best to wait until the last minute?

Me too, fritherdog smile

Octopus have ‘free’ electricity today between 1&2pm, we’re not here or I’d be washing then.

Charleygirl5 Tue 10-Sept-24 09:37:24

Desdemona I decided to do it last month because Octopus could not guarantee it could stay at the price I was offered.

I am very interested in changing to the tracker but I would like to know if it would be a lot cheaper to switch on a washing machine at 10pm rather than 10am.

I am at home a lot so could easily adjust

Jaxjacky Tue 10-Sept-24 09:32:49

I’ve moved to the tracker, tied in for a year, I’ll see how that goes.

Desdemona Tue 10-Sept-24 09:14:50

I am writing on this post to avoid starting another Octopus thread, I hope that's ok.

I have had an email from them asking if I want to sign up for a fixed rate with them as prices are going up on October 1st.

Are any of you that are with Octopus going to do this?

I have been on the Tracker rate with Octopus for just over a year. In that time I paid around 72% of the standard rate so for me it has been a good thing. But it could be more than the standard rate if prices in the energy market increase - I check daily (a 1 min task) as you can change to another rate if you feel they are too high

I've been with Octopus for years and on the tracker for the last year.
But I think I'll play safe with fixed price now. There are rumours of price rises.
I love Octopus but it's taken over so many millions of customers and it doesn't feel personal like it used to.

We have been with octopus for a few years! We read our meters at the end of the month, pay by direct debit and keep an eye on our balance which is sent as soon as readings are received !
Never had an issue with them ! Very good service for me!!

This is exactly what I do. I was moved to Octopus when my previous supplier (Bulb) went bust, and I was slightly apprehensive - but they're great, and very straightforward.

I’ve been with octopus for a while and find them great, but my daughter was switched to them from Shell and it has been chaotic for her. I think it was the large influx of customers.

I’ve been with Octopus for just over a year and am very impressed. Find the website very good and helpful. Have recently changed from flexible to fixed for a year, but you can change at any time if prices drop, which is more than fair.

We’ve been on Octopus for some time and find the app simple and easy to use. I’ve reduced our monthly payments and also had a £50 discount for introducing a new customer (they also received £50). 😎 I find comparing tariffs difficult though. That’s something I need to tackle now that it’s worthwhile to do.

Katyj Fri 02-Aug-24 15:29:44

Well I’ve switched over to the fixed tariff, it seemed the safer option for now. Will see how things go 🤞

I have been with Octopus for about 4 years and I can't fault them. Simple website, frequent communication and they always let me know when I'm in credit and ask if I want the excess returned or an adjustment to my DD. It's simple to change my direct debit online whenever I want to as well. I'm not on a fixed tariff simply because last year my landlord fitted solar panels and I need to sort out how much electricity I am saving before I make a decision on that. But I know when I decide, the Customer Service will help me choose what's best.

I’m a disappointed woman- I saw “octopus tracker” and was excited to follow octopuses in the sea just like aeroplane trackers, I suppose that’s too difficult and not very kind to octopuses!

ClaraB Fri 02-Aug-24 12:19:50

I’ve been contemplating changing to the tracker for a while now, thanks Cambia for explaining your rates.

Grantanow Fri 02-Aug-24 11:38:50

I would change supplier but I don't want a smart meter - too many reported problems.

I changed to the Octopus tracker a couple of months ago and it has worked out way cheaper. Obviously electric prices may rise later in the year and I will check it again but at the moment it makes sense to stay on it. Their app is excellent and very easy to use to see what you are paying at any time of the day. I was paying about 29p per Khw now mostly paying around 19p but it has been as low as 13p.

I have just opted for the 12 month fixed deal too

Georgesgran Fri 02-Aug-24 10:34:38

I find the Octopus website is very easy to navigate - I only access the bits relevant to me. I’ve had a couple of issues with Octopus over the years, but all sorted to my satisfaction and I’ll be renewing my contract with them next month.
The tracker prices change on a daily basis (like gold). I’ve always thought that too complex to consider.

Katyj Thu 01-Aug-24 17:48:31

Me too shinamea. I’ve just won £1 on spin the wheel today 😄

Shinamae Thu 01-Aug-24 12:11:31

I find Octopus website really easy to navigate..
