Why is this so prevalent in England ?

I cannot understand the mentality of those people , mostly men , causing so much damage in England at the moment. We are all shocked at the murders in Southport but why are they damaging and even looting shops ? This mentality of keeping England for the English is not found in Wales or Scotland but it is found in nothern Ireland . I see them waving flags of Saint George and rioting in so many cities. If the killer of these childen had been say French would they feel the same ? I am sure colour comes into it . I saw someone orchestrating the youths to cause havoc what are their parents thinking they are up to . I must admit I dispair of the mentality of these people .

Don't be silly. Far right grans I don't think so.

Babs03 Mon 05-Aug-24 10:30:52

I think they need cross party cooperation on this, with members of Reform sitting in the HoC taking part and joint the chorus of right minded people condemning the far right thuggery.

Urmstongran Mon 05-Aug-24 10:30:17

Stop trying to shut down this thread Whitewave! You’re like a one-man band. No one on here is inciting anything we are just commenting on what has already happened. Big difference.

Moving on.
This - in the Telegraph today riled me in the way it’s reported upon. Gah.

“Violent clashes broke out between far-Right rioters and Muslim counter-protesters'”

Can anyone see what is wrong with the sentence and then work out why the ordinary Brit is fed up?

I'm sure the Government and MI5/6 have bigger fish to fry than Gransnet 😂

Most asylum seekers and failed asylum seekers want to stay in England in the big towns and cities and most are housed here and no I do not condone violence from any group.

Don’t be so sure.

And even if that is the case, GNHQ still have a responsibility to abide by the law, and this includes not giving platform to far right sympathisers.

Urmstongran Mon 05-Aug-24 10:24:22

And N.I. right now too. So many disillusioned people in the UK.

whitewavemark2. I have said nothing at all to incite rioting. You need to calm down.

I have just compared the thuggish Just Stop Oil Protestors with these rioters. I can see no difference. A thug is a thug.

Local people are out there in the streets because they LIVE there. Very surprised you cannot see that. It doesn’t make them far right.

Macadia Mon 05-Aug-24 10:20:32

GNHQ are responsible for what is put out on this forum.

I suspect that they are monitoring it very carefully because no one wants to be seen to be sympathetic to the far right cause and get the attention of the police.

It’s incitement to rioting that will be looked at, there has been nothing of the sort here on this forum thankfully.

Oreo Mon 05-Aug-24 10:10:22

Of course it’s a minority.
The OP must realise that England is much larger than the other countries that make up our Union.Scotland has about the same population as London for example.

This thread cannot ignore other nations whilst having a pile on about the English.Mind you there’s nothing the English enjoy more than a bit of a rant about themselves and how awful they are it seems. We could discuss this peculiarity maybe?🤔
It’s a particularly English pastime.

The prize for introspection goes to the French in my book! I don’t think most people on this thread are piling on though, just trying to grapple with the question that was asked. You have to bear in mind we are talking about a small minority of people here, not a whole nation.

I’m not saying that it isn’t a problem… it worries me too… but I live in Leicester and was shocked to see reports on TV to say we had had trouble too ( although without major violence I think). What wasn’t reported at all was that about half a mile away people of all colours and nationalities were rubbing along peacefully together on the park. I know because I was on the park at the time.

What I’m trying to say is that the peaceful rubbing along is MUCH more typically English, and the protests and violence are the only bits that get attention.

Where were you 2 Summers ago? There was major fighting and disruption between Hindus and Muslims in Leicester.
We lived in Leics and still have relatives there and they said it was dreadful.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Leicester_unrest

Well thank goodness the issues have been resolved and as ali23 people largely live peacefully together.

You almost sound as if you regret this.

Don’t try to put words into my mouth.

There has always been an underlying tension in Leicester and Asians and West Indians have never mixed. There have also always been no go areas.

Just because people can share one of Leicester’s many parks does not mean the problem has been resolved.

The tension in 2022 wasn't between "Asians" and West Indians. It was between Hindus (mainly of Indian via Uganda/Kenya) origin and Muslims (mainly of Pakistani origin).

But once again the focus is on an immigrant community.

One might almost suspect an agenda here.

Given what has been happening over the past week one would have expected that you would at least had the grace to give it a break until the far right thugs have been sorted.

But then maybe not?

There might be some thugs amongst these rioters but from what I see on TV most are local people - men, women and children and teenagers. Starmer made a big mistake calling them all far right thugs.

I notice the JustStop Oil protestors who defaced buildings, paintings, vehicles and caused major disruption were never called thugs but they were!

Then you are part of the problem.

Be in no doubt that the police have said that onlookers - your so called local people who attended these far right riots will be deemed as being sympathetic to the far right cause and be taken in for questioning.

People supporting on line and in other ways will be similarly treated.

You need to be careful with your rhetoric.

How do you know Asians and West Indians don't get on?

It never stops does it, this nonsense.

Because I lived and worked with both communities for many years. It is a deep rooted thing.

mae13, I have to call you out on your unpleasant post.
There has been an unspoken protocol on GN for as long as I have been on, that we do not criticise individual posters regarding their spelling or grammar.

We never know if a poster is dyslexic or has difficulties.

Or a person whose first language is not English.

Of course, Primrose.

Shall we stop English bashing? Many Scots and Welsh have no love for England and the English, ditto many Irish, it works both ways.
Well balanced people from anywhere in the British Isles got past that long ago thankfully.

That is exactly my point though. Most people got over it, but not everybody. There is always a minority who get left behind. The same is true of every country in the world, and of course there are people in Wales, Scotland and Ireland who hate the English, and other nations, too - but this thread is about why it is so prevalent in England?

Wyllow3 Mon 05-Aug-24 09:54:16

I think the remnants of Empire do linger on. A key slogan has been "Rule Britainnia" with all its sentiments.

(Didn't want to quote and make the post even longer.)

I know we're nearly all mongrels. I've been banging on for ages about the myths surrounding being white and indigenous, but many people do believe it. We are all one race and it is decreed nowhere that any particular part of the planet should be "owned" by any people of a particular ancestry.

I said very clearly in my post that the fighting was between Hindus and Muslims.

When I referred to Asians and West Indians not getting on that is something that has always gone on. Unconnected to the riots I mentioned.
