Jax, A beautiful young woman!

Redcar Mon 02-Sept-24 07:16:01

brook fingers crossed the underfloor heating is working more or less as it should! Will check it throughout the day to see if I got it right on about the fifth attempt! I thought technology was supposed to make life easier!

Naughtyneine Mon 02-Sept-24 13:39:29

Yay...our beloved U.ms is fine and for now is F...d G...n T...toes ( at the whistle stop cafe for those that remember the film). So good to know she is back and all is well. We have missed you.

soop Mon 02-Sept-24 15:10:37

Jax Imogen is a beautiful young lady. Serene!

NannyG4 May the good memories be of comfort to you. flowers

Blossoming You possess a warm and grateful heart. Long may it remain so. smile

We've had some terribly sad news. My oldest friend (of 55 years) has undergone numerous tests and scans and has been diagnosed with Mesothelioma cancer. The prognosis is poor. This cancer develops as a result of being exposed to asbestos. She has no recollection of ever being near asbestos. Our hearts go out to her and her beloved family.

Mr Soop is yet again having his scalp dressing changed. A week tomorrow, he should be informed by the surgeon, in Glasgow, of the next step to treat his cancer.

My love to you all. You are very special people. I greatly appreciate all the support that is shared between the Kitcheners. moon

Hi to all kitchen pals, it’s a wet miserable day up here in Inverness ☔️☔️

I’ve been out and about this morning, returning flooring samples to the carpet shop for DD2 and collecting different ones 🙄 Then I popped to Dunelm for some storage boxes and enjoyed a quick coffee in the cafe there. Got home and we started sorting out the garage to create a bit more space so DD2 can store her boxes there once they’re filled 🤦‍♀️

So sorry to hear about your friend soop, sad news indeed ❤️

Hope it’s still working redcar!

Grandmabatty Mon 02-Sept-24 18:02:32

Soop I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Life sometimes gives us blows. A busy day for you Brook. Redcar my fingers are crossed hoping your heating is working.
It's been a day of mixed fortunes. Dgs2 has been mostly good except for the last couple of hours before his mum picked him and his brother up. Lots of whining and screaming because his big brother will wind him up. So I've been a referee this afternoon and I'm tired anyway because of a poor sleep last night. Dinner is in the oven and I have tidied up the toys. I will have an early night I think. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners.

Jaxjacky Mon 02-Sept-24 18:39:25

Hi all, busy day on the phones, all sorted, a rish now to eat before quiz, it’s been drizzly and dull, not a glimmer of sun.
How sad soop you must be very upset.
Good to see Urms is back.
Enjoy a better night Grandmabatty 🤞

Redcar Mon 02-Sept-24 19:04:48

soop sad news about your friend, you must be so upset about it.
brook and grandmabatty I think I’ve got the underfloor heating sorted thank you, but I’m still checking it regularly.
A busy day for you brook, I need to sort out my garage, but will need help as I don’t know what most of the stuff is. Not only my DH’s tools, but his Dad’s, my Dad’s and my uncle’s as well and I’m probably never going to use them.
grandmabatty I think you’re a heroine to look after your grandsons for two days a week. I hope you have a better sleep tonight.
Pleased to see urms posting again!
Have a good evening everyone.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 02-Sept-24 19:49:58

Hello kitchen people and welcome back to FGT aka Urms!

Our gardener popped round today and did a bit of weeding. OH has been sorting out his bees ready for removing their honey tomorrow. They get quite upset so he makes sure his bee suit is properly fastened!

Today is what we call Carbohydrate Monday. When I do my weekly shop I buy a couple of samosas, a slice of delicious pie from the deli counter and sometimes a cream cake or two.

I hope the Soops get some dates fixed soon.

Have a good evening. We will watch Only Connect and another episode of Kaos.

Grannmarie Mon 02-Sept-24 20:29:58

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people!🥰 So sorry to hear about your dear friend, Soop, so sad. Congratulations to your DGS, very well done!

Many happy returns to YiaYia's DGS and to Imogen, stunning photo, Jaxjacky, what beautiful eyes.
Hope all goes well for your DH this week, YiaYia. 🙏

Best wishes to all DGC starting/ returning to school this week, hope all goes well for them.

NannyG4, thinking of you and your family, glad that you can support and comfort one another. Kind thoughts to Doodle, Baggs and all who are grieving. 💕🙏

Thanks, brook, we do like our quizzes! More tonight, but not as many because of the Paralympics. Wishing your daughter and her children all the very best at this time of change. You and your DH are a great support to them.

I love Only Connect, Ladyleftfieldlover! Enjoy planning your next trip to Australia for your DB's big birthday.

You are indeed Supergran, Grandmabatty, enjoy your restful evening. Sorry to hear that your Mum wasn't very communicative, I remember how difficult visiting could be if my DM wasn't in a chatty mood.

Blossoming, how lovely to have you back, I'm very sorry to hear about your health issues. You sound very positive and stoic, thinking of you.

Neine, I'm so sorry that a happy photo triggered painful memories for you. I agree with Annsixty's good advice, you are blessed with a wonderful DH and a happy marriage. 💕

Welcome home and many happy returns, 💐 Urms, hope you get your technical issues sorted out soon.

Hope your underfloor heating is working well now, Redcar. Have you recovered from your exploding iron?

A very rainy, cool day here. First time I have worn socks and boots since last winter...which only ended in April!!

Wishing everyone a peaceful Monday evening and a good night's sleep, especially Grandmabatty, Cornergran and all those who find sleep elusive. 😴 TOYA, NNGB.

brook2704 Mon 02-Sept-24 22:56:00

What a lovely post grannmarie thank you 🥰

Nannytopsy Mon 02-Sept-24 23:27:55

Can you come and look at our dining room underfloor heating please Redcar? It’s nearly 5 years since ours was fitted and I have not worked out how to programme it!
Keep up the good work Grandmabatty - it might get better in time! We had a flying visit from the DGC this afternoon, to collect the labelled school uniforms and bring another few items. Following laundry issues this year DiL bought double the amount of uniforms so I started with 20 polo shirts!! Well, they’re done now.
I hope MrS is OK and feeling positive about next week.
WI committee meeting tomorrow - fortunately the DGC left a few cakes! Another dental implant on Wednesday afternoon followed by the PCC meeting. I’m not sure which is worse!
I think it’s bedtime so NNGB.

Redcar Tue 03-Sept-24 12:37:49

nannytopsy I hadn’t a clue how to program the underfloor heating. I googled the name of it and eventually found instructions online. Fingers crossed it’s working so far! I misread your post and thought you’d had to iron 20 polo shirts!
granmarie I’ve just about recovered from the exploding iron thank you. I bought a new one & plugged it in a different socket & have just been brave enough to iron a sheet! The new one works much better than the old one, which wasn’t very old, but I hadn’t looked after it at all.

brook2704 Tue 03-Sept-24 15:42:27

Good afternoon kitchen pals, I’m just home after a volunteering session this morning which I really enjoyed. They treated the volunteers to lunch afterwards so that was the reason I’m late home. I was going to cut the grass but it’s just started raining so that’ll wait until another day
That’s an awful lot of labels for the polo shirts nannytopsy - well done!
Sending gentle hugs to all in need of some support just now x

annsixty Tue 03-Sept-24 17:12:12

Good afternoon all.
I am back from my jollies and getting back to normal.
I enjoyed it mostly, well I enjoyed what we did but I wouldn’t be totally honest if I didn’t say that my D can be rather prickly sometimes and I bite my tongue a lot or just change the subject.
She is as old as some GNers and rather self absorbed but we mainly rub along when we meet up a couple of times a year.

We were blessed with the weather and enjoyed Nottingham and surroundings although our visit to Wollaton Hall and park had to be curtailed as we couldn’t park anywhere near as it was so busy and it was too far for me to walk.
On the whole I was pleased with what I could do and dismayed with what I couldn’t.
As rain was expected we booked cinema tickets for Sunday, a rare treat for me.
We watched Blink Twice, a “ weird thriller” but watchable.

I have been very tired today but got a few things done and now enjoying a cup of tea, no cake or biscuit,I have several pounds to lose.
Have the best evening you can every one.

GrannySomerset Tue 03-Sept-24 17:25:05

Ann, we love our daughters but they can sometimes be very hard work, can’t they? Hope you recover soo !k

Thorntrees Tue 03-Sept-24 17:31:45

I too sympathise. Our eldest daughter is causing us a few problems at present.
Sometimes I feel like a referee between her and her Father,we both love her dearly but she certainly has her moments

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-Sept-24 17:36:42

Have been to a very large Soft Play Centre with two GS’s they were happy as it also had Go-Carts and Climbing Walls, followed by McDonalds for food. I am exhausted!

Two more days of childcare this week, then three days each week until 23/09 when our two youngest GS’s begin reception class.

Sorry to let you know that Urms / FGT has been locked out of GN for the foreseeable.

I am trying to notify GNHQ, and would be grateful to any other posters who could do the same in order to restore out dear pals account.

Blossoming Tue 03-Sept-24 18:55:51

Good evening dear Kitcheners. I’m all tucked up in my comfy bed. My body is going through one of its food rejection phases so MrB has been feeding me scrambled egg. He is a lovely nurse and makes the most delicious scrambled eggs, pure comfort food. I have spotted several typos in this post already, fortunately before I hit that send button grin

I am very sorry that we will not see Urms updates and lovely chatty posts any more. If anyone is in touch with her please pass on my lovel

Have a good evening and a peaceful night xx

Nannytopsy Tue 03-Sept-24 18:59:23

Yes, I did iron them too!
DGS2 is just 2 and went to the zoo for the first time today. His favourite animal was the “snake duck”. You might know it as an ostrich 🤣

Jaxjacky Tue 03-Sept-24 19:11:22

Scrambled egg sounds just right Blossoming and a splendid nurse.
Lunch too brook a good chance to socialise after working.
I’m gutted about that GG13 and will do - not surprised you’re bushed!!
Such a great post Grannmarie, I’m back in bare feet this evening, we had drizzle earlier, but sun now. A great chat with a good friend this morning and another different one sorting out Imogen’s bus pass this afternoon.
I had a pleasant win on the PB’s, right, must get on with dinner, enjoy your evenings.

Redcar Tue 03-Sept-24 19:19:32

nannytopsy that was a real labour of love! I love the description of the ostrich! I don’t think I’d have guessed what snake duck was!
blossoming I’m sorry your stomach is misbehaving, comforting that your OH is such a good nurse. I hope you feel better soon.
I have always had to watch what I say to both my lovely daughters, they can both be quite prickly at times, and always ganged up against me when my DH was alive. Since he died they have been really kind and helpful to me.
Have good evening everyone.

brook2704 Tue 03-Sept-24 22:40:00

Sorry to hear about fgt / urms being locked out Gg13, I’ll message too

Sorry to hear about fgt / urms being locked out Gg13, I’ll message too

I tried messaging but there seemed to be some sort of problem.

cornergran Wed 04-Sept-24 06:51:48

Feel for urms. How frustrated she must be. Scrambled egg is my favourite food blossoming, just a shame you’re feeling so poorly while you eat it. Hope you could sleep and today will be more settled.

Loved the snake duck nannyt. An excellent description.

I’m so sorry about your friend soop, a sad loss for you. Hope there will be a more comfortable time ahead for mr soop and you can both worry less.

Pleased you could mostly enjoy your break ann. Sometimes I think selective hearing is best around adult children. We do a lot of lip zipping when around our two, especially when they are together.

Nothing exciting happening here. We had been due for an outing with friends today but sadly the weather is against us and we’ve postponed. Walking round an animal park under an umbrella wouldn't be the most fun or relaxed outing. We’ll try again next week. Mr C and I will wander forth at some point, a compensatory lunch out at least.

It’s proving more than difficult to secure a place in a Home that can meet our friends increased needs. In a rural location choice is limited. At our goddaughters request I researched the latest possibility, on paper, well Google, it looks promising. It would mean a lot of travelling for her and her husband though, they will go and see it as soon as they can. It seems our friend deteriorates more with every week in hospital, a very difficult environment for her.

I see the rain has started. Hmm, now where can we go that has a roof?

Best wishes to all.
