I live alone and although I use WhatsApp for brief messages and appointments I love having a chat with someone, phone or face to face.

I use WhatsApp all the time but every couple of weeks use it to chat. Listening to someones voice is far more telling than script I find so always like that contact.

I have a friend that stays n the phone for hours, I use earbuds when speaking to her so just get on with cleaning, walking or shopping etc whilst on the phone with her.

Definitely WhatsApp, same as LinkyPinky we even use it to say when we're going to phone each other, so it's mutually convenient time, because those take a while.

I'm happy with any form of communication. WhatsApp is convenient but I tend to phone if it's going to be a long chat .

I think i would be more than grateful to have friends who cared to keep in contact xxxx

I think that unplanned social phone-calls are considered quite rude nowadays, just like ‘dropping in’ on people. Friends and I use WhatsApp. Sometimes we use it to schedule phone or video chats.

Yes, there's such a choice of methods! The youngsters now seem to consider a straightforward phone call intrusive, some oldies either can't cope with technology or are set against various forms of it (for real or imagined reasons). Or just want some chit-chat. And yes, messaging isn't a conversation, it's merely a series of statements.

Just like this one. :-)

WhatsApp is my favourite but also use messenger - never text. And, I'm not averse to a good phone chat or meet up.

WhatsApp every time, some messaging, sometimes calling, and regular meet ups for cuppa if near enough

Mostly WhatsApp these days. And some emails for friends living abroad.

I'm "only" 67 but still prefer a phone conversation. I think real human contact is dwindling and you can convey or sense so many more nuances by hearing someone else's voice. Admittedly I don't have a large family or social circle and I still work full time, so I'm not stuck on the phone for hours each week.

Most of the people I know seem to prefer text messaging. I live on my own so I would much prefer a phone conversation. I use email with friends if I need to discuss something but again I prefer a face to face meetup.. nothing beats that..

You'll have to cultivate what one of my DDs calls her gran's "brisk telephone manner" 😉

Whichever way they or I prefer, WhatsApp, Messenger for short messages about meeting up etc and phone calls for longer chats.
Some prefer using landlines even if they do have mobiles.

I do a mix- phone for some, WhatsApp for others. Different strokes for different folks as they say .

I prefer WhatsApp, but my older friends like to chat on the phone and get annoyed if I can't !

I use WhatsApp and messenger most of the time but my elder sister likes to talk on the phone occasionally. DD rings me now and then from her home abroad.

I too use WhatsApp or messenger but my daughters and sister still ring each other for a chat now and then. Just do whichever suits you. Perhaps those ladies are lonely and just love a chat.

Do what is best for you. I prefer face to face or the phone however my friends however don't, such busy lives for them its just Whats App, which does have its uses.

I have a range of friends from internet wizards to grans in their 80s who can just about use a mobile. Each one seems to have their own way of contacting me i.e. email, Whatsapp, SMS, RCS, Facebook, or telephone call. I am a great one for FB or text as you can leave a message and they can come back when convenient. However, I have recently met some very nice ladies from my social group in their later years and they seem to do everything by 'phone. Whilst direct, they seem to linger on calls whilst I like to get on with my day. They say: Sorry we don't text, email or are not on FB. Each to his own but I do get confused. Any comments, please?
