Would not normally post news items, but I think is important that a Cyanide alert has been issued for the Walsall area canal system. Please make others aware.

I do not live in the area myself but this is a very good use of GN to alert people of possible dangers.

There appears to be little detailed information at time of writing but no doubt this will emerge as the day goes on.
Thanks. thanks

Shocking. Who on earth is responsible?

On that scale, it must be a factory, wonder why it's taking so long to ID it, but they have to be sure. Also whether an accident or not.

It's affected quite a long stretch of the canal as well. The poor wildlife there was a picture with all the dead fish, such a shame. Glad at least it appears tk have been noticed before someone was seriously injured by the poisoning and hopemthey can clear it up quickly.

Does anyone remember when something poisonous went into the water at St Teath in Cornwall decades ago? I was on holiday at the time and just used bottled water ( a friend I was holidaying with thought I was being over cautious). I think it made a lot of local people very poorly. These sort of ‘accidents’ make me so angry. Miles of canal have been affected. Birds, fish, otters, water voles will have been poisoned angry

I think this contamination may have reached our bit of canal here. I love popping out to watch the ducks, swans and other wildlife. I hope they are OK.

They have found the company -

"Anochrome Ltd, which deals in surface coatings and sealing, said the incident "regrettably" released chemicals into the Walsall waterway in the early hours of Monday"
