Amazon worry

I don’t use my card on my account. On the very rare occasions I buy something on Amazon, I buy a gift card from the supermarket to use instead. I’ve done that since reading about someone who was getting a replacement credit card and found that Amazon knew the number of the new card before she did!

That was VG Luckygirl. I always found Amazon helpful if products supplied weren't right.

Amazon saved us a a lot of money by alerting us to unusual activity on the account. £800 had been spent by then - we got the money back from the bank, who did not seem remotely interested in nabbing the guilty party.

Thank you

aggie click on the drop down arrow by Account & Lists at the top. Then Your Account. The the box called Your Payments which allows you to add a card or delete a card.

I suppose you go into settings?

aggie Thu 15-Aug-24 16:17:04

How do I remove my card ?

Aveline Thu 15-Aug-24 16:07:37

I've never added anyone to my Amazon Prime either.

BlueBelle Thu 15-Aug-24 15:38:17

I m just alone on Amazon and never had anyone add anything just checked my account and all seems well I do leave my card number on I don’t fill it in every time but only the last four figures show

Here are some details about Amazon Household, but I don't think someone could just add themselves because you'd get a warning. It can't happen without your consent. I think you need to tell Amazon about this.

Aveline

I've never added anyone to my Amazon account. On googling I've found that this has happened to others so I thought I'd better mention it on here.

I wasn't suggesting you added someone to your account yourself, but that if you have Amazon Prime then maybe that's how it happened, because I don't seem to have anything about adding people or taking them off and I don't have Amazon Prime. I hope that makes sense.

It does seem as though your account has been compromised so check your bank accounts and change your Amazon password.

I'm pleased you did, Aveline.

For info - I got an email from Amazon saying that someone had attempted to change my settings, so I blocked it and have kept my guest account.

My children have their own Prime accounts, but when they stay with me there are separate profiles on the TVs, so my 'continue watching' feed is not clogged with half-watched programmes I don't want to see grin. They watch in their bedrooms at times.

I can't even see where you can add or remove people. I've looked under 'Your Account' where all the account details are. I'm not a Prime member, maybe that's why? I know you can add people in your household under Prime, so maybe that's what happened. They do not have to live at the same address. In fact I'm hoping to be added to my daughter's Prime membership which is allowed.

Thanks for the warning.

Doodledog Thu 15-Aug-24 09:59:10

I’ve been into mine and deleted a profile named ‘guest’, then realised it is for watching TV. I do like to have separate accounts for that, as otherwise I get recommendations and half-watched programmes that my children have seen when they’ve come to stay.

Cossy Thu 15-Aug-24 08:31:31

I’ll check mine too, thanks.

Freya5 Thu 15-Aug-24 07:47:17

Thank you for the warning, I'll check mine.

EkwaNimitee Thu 15-Aug-24 07:45:28

Thanks for that Aveline. I must be more vigilant.

petra Thu 15-Aug-24 07:35:08

Don’t leave your card on Amazon. If there is any funny business going on your card isn’t there to pay for goods.
All to easy to just press buy now job done.

Grandmabatty Thu 15-Aug-24 07:29:38

Thanks for the warning Aveline. I've just checked my account and no added people.

Aveline Thu 15-Aug-24 06:24:06

I was horrified to discover while idly looking at my Amazon account that another profile had been added. It was in a man's name. Obviously, I deleted it and changed my password but it gave me a fright and I was glad I'd noticed it.
Worth checking yours!
