C&A. Me and my friend Diane. I go 14 shillings and free food in the canteen. The job was horrible though. Horrible supervisors.

I worked on a cheese stall on the inside market, had to learn how to cut and weigh different cheeses.
Was always given a small piece of cheese as well as my wages for Saturday which my old mum would make Welsh rarebit with.

I worked in a hairdressers for a short time. Spent all day brushing hair off the floor. I think I got about 50p (10s) for the day 😄

I was on the haberdashery counter in Woolworths.
All of the calculations regarding lengths of ribbon etc were done in the head.
My talents in mental arithmetic has impressed generations of children!

I worked at a fish counter in a big market with my friend, we stank of fish , and you would be peeling scales off our nails all evening , even after a bath. At that time I didn't even like fish. 😂 . I also done a paper round for a few weeks one summer, covering a friend and done the odd shift in a cafe which was owned by my father's mate.

Mine was in Woollies in the early 60s. I was lucky in that I also worked during holiday periods and helped with stock taking on a Sunday - double pay.

I learned the value of money very quickly. In my first year my Saturday pay enabled me to buy one 68 single record. It three Saturdays to buy an LP 29/11d.

I worked in a bakery when I was 14 , my job was to the fill the eclairs with cream then cover them with chocolate, the owners also let me serve at the counter occasionally, I felt so grown up.
