I wouldn't dare buy a nice chocolate one now - there's no chance of it lasting to December.

I went to B&M yesterday for some gardening stuff, the gardening aisle has been replaced with Christmas gift sets.

I love Christmas and anything to do with it but haven't seen anything yet. The garden centres have got their Halloween things in and l am tempted to get some things.
I did buy a lovely 2025 calendar recently in Southwold from RNLI charity shop.

The local garden centre had Hallow’een paraphernalia yesterday, plus they’ve started to clear the area they use for all the Ch……s stuff, so I expect we’ll be seeing that next week.

I received the first charity 🎄catalogue over a week ago. Can’t say it bothers me - except for mince pies in the shops in September!!

BlueBelle

SO, SO depressing

Yes! my thoughts too BlueBelle, it's STILL summer as far as I'm concerned, Christmas is in the depths of winter, away with all the Christmas paraphernalia until November at least.

Nooooooo! The schools haven't gone back yet, for crying out loud.

The Advent Calendar Shop has a great choice

Rekarie Sun 18-Aug-24 08:49:56

I love seeing Christmas items any time of the year.

Many people on budgets like to pick up bits and pieces.

As for advent calendars with no chocolate and glitter, there are hundreds on Amazon and if you just search for traditional ones there are plenty of sites where they're available

I have seen the first Christmas cards in a shop last week. I usually start thinking Christmas in early October, but keep my eye open for Christmas presents all year round and already have a small stash of stocking presents in a drawer together with something for DH's birthday (in September) which I bought before Easter.

This is making me really want some chocolate!

Jackiest Sun 18-Aug-24 08:34:23

Maybe they should do year long advent calendars with 365 windows and a bar of chocolate in every one.

Ho hum.
I went to a National Trust place last week.
Saw some Christmas cards. Bought them.
My reason/excuse is, I have about 15 to host this Christmas.
I cant possibly do everything late.

Didnt see any Advent Calendars. If that manages to redeem me!

I gave up buying them a few years back.
I found I enjoyed them until about Dec 10th or 13th.
Then got too busy to bother. And also, I actually did not want to be reminded at that point, how little time there was left until the 25th.

I never know how I’m going to be from one day to the next so, like Whiff, I have to make an early start. Christmas menus are already planned and I’m starting to get stuff squirreld away.

MayBee70 Sun 18-Aug-24 08:04:43

It’s really difficult to find nice advent calendars these days. I find it sad that children don’t seem to enjoy just looking at pictures since they started putting chocolate in them.I’ve got a box full of advent calendars from before chocolate ones took over that are all glittery and Christmassy. Chocolate ones are a nightmare if you have a dog.

My grandsons birthdays are November and January so always ask my daughter for list of ideas in September so buy presents for birthdays and Christmas together and spilt them . I ask what she and my son in law want. I have already thought about what I would like.
I have brought some Christmas cards but I never have conventional ones. I like odd ones . Already been looking for advent calendars on Etsy for my grandsons I don't buy them chocolate ones but their parents have a Cadbury's one .

Been thinking about our secret Santa for my craft group. I cross stitch so takes a while to do. Have 2 ideas what to do so probably do both then decide what to give. I have to plan well in advance it's how I have always lived my life.

Calendargirl Sun 18-Aug-24 07:36:33

Just seen on local FB page this morning some advert connected with the dreaded C.

Can’t recall what it was for though, but totally unnecessary.

keepingquiet Sat 17-Aug-24 23:00:58

Oh my. I went charity shopping with a friend recently and commented that I hadn't yet seen any Christmas cards for sale.
Lo and behold the very next shop there they were!

grumppa Sat 17-Aug-24 22:48:11

I make it 19, if that helps.

Mollygo Sat 17-Aug-24 22:41:13

I found this in my emails from Boots today.
Surprise... Advent Calendars have arrived!

Then on FB I learned that there’s only 13 Mondays before Christmas.
