I have had a fav quote for some time.
It is from a poem by Rumi an ancient Persian poet.

‘Out beyond all ideas
Of wrongdoing
And right doing
There is a field
I will meet you there.’

Any other fav quotes?

Groucho Marks:

"Just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they're not out to get you."

One of my favourites too.

Yes, it's really clever isn't it Indigo. I think it was Groucho who also said "No good deed goes unpunished".

"Success can't be measured by how much money you have, but by whether you have inner peace in our heart." Dalai Lama

Life is what happens and what we do'
Not what should or might have been.

Taken from The Guardian newspaper many years ago.
These words have seen me through many of life's crises.

HA HA HA! Al Bundy in Married With Children trying to queue jump and the fat lady in front would say ''get at the back!'' and Al would look her up and down with her rather ''ahem, fuller figure'' and reply ''I can't! I've only got 1/2 tank of gas!''

Thomas Bailey Aldrich 11 November 1836-19 March 1907:

- Identity -
SOMEWHERE—in desolate wind-swept space—
In Twilight-land—in No-man's land—
Two hurrying Shapes met face to face,
And bade each other stand.

"And who are you?" cried one a-gape,
Shuddering in the gloaming light.
"I know not," said the second Shape,
"I only died last night!"

HA HA HA! I love it!

I like the Julian of Norwich quote but can someone explain the repetition of the first phrase? "All shall be well...."

My feeling is that Mother Julian repeated the first line simply for empathis.

I think the one about reconnaissance might have been Churchill?

It seems unlikely that Donald Trump ever read a proper book (Playboy doesn't count!), but it seems he saw this somewhere :- a shrewd guy called H L Mencken had a great quote, pre-war, said "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public". [it's a close relative of the "sucker" one, by Barnum].

And as has been said, Twain had loads :-
1) We have the best government that money can buy.

2) I don't like to commit myself about heaven and hell - you see, I have friends in both places.

3) There are lies, damned lies and statistics.

My lovely friend at school had a quote that she told me came from her Asian origins..."When you say sorry say it from the bottom of your heart, not the tip of your tongue."

Auntieflo Tue 20-Aug-24 17:39:36

gma, I love that quote by Mother Julian of Norwich

All shall be well, all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well.

Also like Vintagegirl mentioned, it would be nice if someone could explain "all shall be well " being said twice.

Meet people where they are - St Ignatius of Loyola (and he was talking about the place they were in mentally not physically).
