Funny you should say that, as recently I saw a clip on the internet showing a well off family house/ compound where a female lion or panther jumps the wall and breaks through into the outside dog area where two rottweilers lived, kills one and carries it off to eat, even jumping a high wall with it in its mouth.Mind you there aren’t many of those down Croyden way.

Polnan mentioned aggressive hairless cats. They look absolutely terrifying and such a contrast to all to gentle, soppy cats I have ever owned.

My son lives in the USA. The true American Bull Dog is an animal that is not by nature vicious. They are very gentle and good with children. They do look a bit like these ' Bully '
breeds.

It seems mad to me. XL bullies have the temperament and ability to kill and yet people walk around with them in public.
I wonder if I went walking with a pet lion would something be done.

I agree that 11 million dogs are too many and who knows how many more are being bred, especially dangerous ones.

I've been saying for years there needs to be a robust licensing and chipping system which can provide enough funds for enforcement.

If anyone wishes to report a dog or dogs for any reason this should be possible anonymously, backed up by photos or other evidence if possible. The Police or dog wardens to follow up the report, there is no need to know who reported it. This would enable people who live nearby to report the name and address of the owners, as they are best placed to know who they are.

I agree with BlueBelle. How many more people are going to get savaged to death by these brutes!? What a terrifying way to die . It beggers belief.

I think the British obsession with dogs is disgraceful.
There are far too many of them.
Everyone seems to go ga ga for them and treat them like human beings. I’m thinking pampered pooches.

I’m not a dog lover but did have a Labrador for eleven years until she died. I was fond of her as she was docile and loving.
But I wouldn’t have another as I previously stated.

I wrote to the prime minister at the time of the ban and pointed out that all big bully type dogs should be immediately neutered or destroyed . They are still being bred , bigger than ever. Crossed with mastiffs now . Any dog with pit bull in it as v part of its ancestry is a killer . Pit bulls are fighting dogs bred to kill. XL bully dogs are part pit bull . America started both of these dog breeds and the dregs of humanity in this country buy them . They are volatile untrainable killing machines and should all be destroyed.

IMO all dogs should be muzzled irrespective of whether they seem placid or not. All it takes is a wrong move by a small child or possibly the dog to get stung by a wasp or frightened in some way then that dog could bite. All dogs should have licences and banned breeds should actually be banned.

You cannot anonymously report dogs, be it neglect, noise, cruelty or banned breeds to the rspca, council or police without providing your contact details, and as been mentioned some of these dogs are used by certain people... not the people I would like to know my details of reporting them .

I have 2 spaniels that are properly trained. When off the lead if they run towards someone or a stream river dead bird etc I shout one word and they stop straight away and return to me. They are friendly but could easily knock over a toddler so we trained them with treats and it's worked perfectly. Pity other dog owners can't do the same.

I think more dog training needs to be set up. When I was a child, I was given an Alsatian puppy aged 10, then dropped off each week by my mother to dog training classes.

I think local councils, as a public health issue, should commission dog training plus social landlords too.

And not just for posh areas.

Terrifying. Why are people allowed to keep this killer animals and then walk them in public places unmuzzled. How do they keep getting away with doing this. Prison sentences should reflect the seriousness of their behaviour when something goes wrong.

These dogs are not bred for fighting.
They are used largely by criminals, particularly drug dealers.
They are also a huge status symbol.
It’s the “I’m hard look at my dog” mentality.

I really duslike all dogs , but each to their own, as they say. Imho, tho, all dogs should be on a short lead and muzzled when outside the home. Owners should not allow anyone else to be, or feel, threatened ( that's the law anyway). As for the mind set of kerping a dog and having a small child in the same house - I don't get how people can live with the risk of the dog reverting to type ( pack pecking order,) and attacking the chikd. Why would you risk it??

If all XL bully dogs were destroyed they would soon find another breed. The Cane Corso is very big and can be very vicious and is being bred widely at the moment ready to take over. The only solution would seem to be a proper licensing system linked to the microchip that all dogs must have by law. I can only imagine the reaction if I were to ring the 'local' police station 25 miles away to say I had seen someone with a suspected XLBully without a muzzle. They don't come for burglaries - just give you a crime number, so don't think they would come out for a dog unlsee you had a name and an address for the owner.

I concur with everything said. It seems to me that the people who like to own these dogs are the less intelligent amongst us which makes the situation worse. They don’t train them, often don’t have the room for them and don’t exercise them enough. I saw a woman out walking two ‘normal’ medium large dogs with muzzles on this morning. That’s what I call a responsible owner.

I have read of hairless cats being bred tobe vicious? anyone else seen that... I feel for the animals also, they don`t ask for this.

The man who died was the brother of the dogs' owner. He was alone at his brother's home with 4 dogs - none were his own. From the over-head issued to the news, it was a small flat with a small, neglected 'garden'. Awful situation - probably frustrated dogs left inside with a stranger. Odds of pack behavious pretty high. Hope people realise soon that dogs really can be a threat. I'm sure the brother thought it would be fine - more public education needed

We can only do our part by reporting any of this type of dog we see without a muzzle or being taken into public areas and not in control. Like anything there are very responsble owners with large dogs well looked after and controlled and then there are the others where often you see men swaggering along thinking that they look big because they have some poor dog being taken out just to look "good" and macho. Well if we report any thing we see that is wrong we are doing what we can and if we all report it then the police will be forced into doing something about it. The breeding of these animals is illegal now and so the police should be able to shut down such places If we do not all do our part and allow ourselves to be intimidated by such people things will only get worse.

The problem is that not all these dogs are XL bullies. there are a range of these dog breeds involved in these killings and we cannot just destroy every dog over a certain size.

One of the common features of all these attacks is people keeping multipes of these big dogs who need a lot of physical activity cooped up in small houses, where I suspect they are not adequately exercised. Every photo of a location of a killing shows small terrace house or a block of flats. never a big house with a large garden for a dog to run round in

When I was working, I once made a house visit to a small Housing Association terrace house. The house was about 15 foot wide and 25 foot deep and it had a back garden no larger.

While I was there, 3 large alsation type dogs were locked int he garden and jumping up at the window. The house and garden were far too small for any big dog and, as I was there to sort out disability benefits, their owner was clearly not going to be taking them out for several 5 mile walks every day. As I understood his son came round to walk them, but also had dogs of his own!

we are hearing too much of this, these dogs need to be wiped out ,one human life lost isone too many..
