Good morning Mick and everyone from bright and breezy Carlisle. I woke up to pouring rain but it's entirely disappeared. The overnight gale that was forecast didn't happen so I hope that's that.
I got out in the garden yesterday afternoon having had my usual Tesco delivery at lunchtime. Lots of deadheading and cutting back plus splitting and replanting items in my gravel bed. Some things do too well!
Very successful results from my granddaughter too so onto college soon.

I'm really sorry to read your news Grammaretto, I thought you were finally sorted. Is it worth getting a good surveyor in?

And wishing you all a good holiday weekend.

Grammaretto Fri 23-Aug-24 08:27:45

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it is wet.

I came into the sitting room to find there is an inch of rain water in the buckets.
I am distraught.
I have contacted the roofer but the plasterers are booked for early September so this is too bad.

I'm sorry for the moan. I wish I could think of something else to say!

Well done to all the youngsters who achieved the grades they need. This includes my DGD who is going to Art College and is coming to stay here tomorrow with her dad.

I've been invited out to dinner tonight. I'm making the pudding. It's to be something with plums from my plum tree.
Work this morning at the community store.
Have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend those in England.

Look after those toes Karmalady

Good morning Mick and all from a windy Sunnyside.
Nice coach trip yesterday, although the stops were not outstanding. This one at the River Wyre was nice however. A grumpy driver, who never spoke, unlike some who welcome everyone, chat and give general info. I forgo a tip for him…

Two long FaceTimes in the evening, sister and DF. Today to the hairdresser for a trim and roots colour. Also my ongoing feeding the neighbour’s cat. She’s very shy, unlike her sister, who cheekily plonked herself on me.
Terrible night with cramp. It’s hard to look forward to the day when you feel knackered.

Hope your hearing aid situation is sorted soon Taichinan, congratulations to all the exam DGC and take it easy cycling on the television Mick, it sounds dangerous!

Late to the party because I decided to make a cushion when I woke up. Anyway, good morning from a cool but sunny Cornwall. The huge ash tree above my patio has started shedding, always the first sign of autumn in my patch.

I'm on a bus right now to the hospital for my final knee check-up (two young men chatting behind me sound a bit tipsy; the end of a hectic night I suspect 😁) then I think to Perranporth for a coffee and walk on the sands. Yesterday I went to Penzance on the bus, back by train. I love this freedom but am looking forward to getting back to the things I really love to do in a month or so.

GrannySomerset Fri 23-Aug-24 08:20:54

We have had a wild night but dry at the moment though gusty wind is flattening the garden. Oldies coffee morning (indoors, thank goodness) but nothing else planned. Might do some cooking for the freezer, depending on what is for sale at the market. Looks like an indoor day again.

Gingster Fri 23-Aug-24 08:19:40

Good morning all and it’s raining and very windy here too, on the Suffolk coast. The sea is high and very moody looking. I do love watching it like this.

Dd and DGD had a good train journey up here and we met them at the nearest station. We went on the beach , wave hopping and a bit of a dig in the sand for a while and visited friends at the lodge just up the beach from here.

Goodness knows what we’ll do today , plans have gone awry with the weather. Cinema is closed today 😫 but perhaps a visit to the sports centre - we’ll see. Such a shame as we’ve had glorious weather for the whole of the school holidays and the sun is due to return next week, after we go ‘home’.

Congrats to all the exam successes. Hard work brings results.🥇.

Hope you’re foot is ok Karma

Our WiFi here is very intermittent - must be down to the weather.

Take care all ☔️

Liberty Fri 23-Aug-24 08:18:11

Good morning from a cool damp looking Suffolk where the weather forecast is much kinder than the west of the country and Scotland. I hope those experiencing bad weather don’t have too difficult a day.

Proud granny here! DGD2 ‘smashed it’ yesterday with her exam results…..DD’s description not mine of the 11 passes,9 at the top grade and the other 2 just below. I hope all the other 16 year olds were happy with theirs and know that hard work produces good results.

I’m having lunch with a dear colleague who has just resigned from the service for which I have a monthly meeting. I shall miss her excellent contributions.

We are expecting our Bristol family sometime over the weekend but their plans are still in progress. Typical family life I think with 3 teenagers!

Bonnybanko Fri 23-Aug-24 08:12:46

Good morning from a wet and windy east coast of Fife. However that won’t stop me going out. I’ve a planned afternoon at the local bingo hall hoping to win some money for my holiday coming up soon.

Have a good day my friends , keep warm and safe

Jaxjacky Fri 23-Aug-24 08:09:00

Morning from a sunny S Hants, it was very turbulent overnight. Well done to all the exam takers, Imogen passed all of hers, including Maths, her least favourite, college next.
Tricky to tell how my back is improving, it seizes up overnight, yesterday was quiet; Tesco delivery today, but I have doubts about pub tonight.

Good morning from a wet NE where we also have gale force winds. A very disturbed night with the noise. I need to get dressed so that I can bring in the wheelie bin as soon as the wagon has been, an empty bin would blow down the hill.
My sister says she would like to visit this afternoon, she will arrive and depart in a taxi so should not be a problem. If she was using public transport I would have told her not to risk it in case she gets blown over.

I received two more photos of GD and friend in Menorca, on the beach and in the swimming pool, they looked so happy and relaxed.

Have a good BH weekend.

Taichinan Fri 23-Aug-24 07:53:54

Good morning all, and we seem to have missed the worst of the stormy weather over here on the Angus coast. I had a lousy night's sleep though as my tinnitus mimicked a raging storm and I was worried about the damage!!
Karma you were very lucky that that brick didn't do lasting damage! Arnica is good though, isn't it.
You're not sounding your usual cheerful self RosesandLilac - I hope you feel better soon and can get a better night's sleep.
I've been over a week without hearing aids now and it's so depressing and isolating. And frustrating!! Before tai chi yesterday I was in the kitchen at the hall making sure everything was ready for the all-important coffee break when one of the ladies came in. I gave my usual greeting of "Hello. How are you" and after she said she was fine she went on to say that no, she wasn't really and proceeded to offload. I felt so awful that I couldn't make out half that she said and yet felt I couldn't keep asking her to repeat. I felt so useless, but I hope that letting off that head of steam helped her a little.
Today I'm off to get my hair cut - it grows so quickly I should really just have my head shaved! I'm meeting my niece for coffee first. I tried to put her off but she was not to be put off - she says she'll shout! - it's going to be an 'interesting' hour.
Have a good day everyone and let's hope the weather picks up for the Bank Holiday weekend ☀️

BlueSapphire Fri 23-Aug-24 07:45:15

Good morning everyone from a very windy Northampton; we have had rain but should stay dry the rest of the day.

Did very little yesterday apart from start my new book club read, 'The Fair Botanists '. Was taking it easy after my late, slightly boozy night the evening before...
Booked tickets for the cinema next week for friends and I to see 'Madame Cliquot', a film about the founder of the champagne house.

Dance classes this morning, then shall hop on the bus to go into town this afternoon; I had ordered some sandals on line, they arrived yesterday, and although lovely, the fit is not right. Luckily I can return them to the store. Then I have one or two things to get in town.

Congratulations to all DGC who had good GCSE results yesterday; my DGD1 did very well indeed, and is returning to her current school next month to do Science and Maths A levels.

Chicken curry for dinner tonight.

Have a good day everyone.

Grandmabatty Fri 23-Aug-24 07:44:18

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 10° and damp, like the rest of the country apparently.
Yesterday I had a productive morning. As well as housework, I made soda bread and a victoria sponge which I filled with homemade raspberry jam. It is very nice. I had a bit of tummy trouble early evening and still feel wabbit, so I won't be doing much. I fear my days of very spicy curries are numbered. Have a good day all.

glammagran Fri 23-Aug-24 07:41:07

Good morning - got woken by a mighty gust of wind and could hear a few items crashing about outside. Bin day but the lid on our recycling box has a brick on top so ok.

Better childcare this week. GS was in a good mood and we took him out am and pm. He’s like a dog that must be exercised. The following day we took GD to Roves’s Farm near Burford. The play equipment is great there and she didn’t want to leave. Great excitement this week as they have their cousin’s labradoodle for a few days while DS and family are on holiday. I’m not particularly into dogs but she is lovely.

Lots of different shops to visit when we go out later.

Congratulations to all the teens getting their exam results. A levels for eldest GD next year. Have a Good Friday everyone.

Marydoll Fri 23-Aug-24 07:35:41

Good morning all from a showery Glasgow, where it is 10°C.
This constant rain is so depressing.

I spent my day yesterday, trying to resolve Safeguarding admin problems and chasing people up to attend training.
However, our wifi was going up and down like a yoyo , making it difficult to access anything. It was so frustrating.
At one point, I lost all my emails. 😡

Wishing you all a good day, enjoy family visits and meetings with friends.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 23-Aug-24 07:26:45

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.

I am taking elder son and granddaughter swimming this morning. The decorating is just about finished so they may well be going back home tomorrow. It had been lovely having them to stay but it will be good to have our house back! This is the longest elder son has been home since he was in the Royal Marines!

OH is having a shooting day.

Have a good day everyone.

luluaugust Fri 23-Aug-24 07:26:34

Good morning from W Kent where it is wet and windy. Shopping this morning and then lunch out. DH seems to have developed a problem with his knee out of nowhere so we shall see where that goes.
Best wishes to all

NannyJan53 Fri 23-Aug-24 07:20:24

Good morning from a very blustery Black Country.

DGD2 also did very well in her GCSE's passed all 9 with very good grades! So off to college in my town to study A levels, so hoping to see a bit more of her.

Today is a u3a walk, which is starting near Mum, so I can pop in afterwards to visit her. Although I rang her Doctors yesterday about an appointment for her. Could only offer a telephone appointment on 5th September! Or I have to ring today at 8am to hopefully have a same day one. Hopefully it will be this afternoon, or I will have to miss the walk.

Wishing you all a good day

Redcar Fri 23-Aug-24 07:20:08

Good morning everyone from a windy and damp mid Essex. Not sure how much rain we’ve had but will check the garden later. Forecast is for brighter later, but we’ll see.
DD2 worked here yesterday morning and after she’d gone, I put all the Dgd’s toys away and stripped and washed the bedding, some ironing to do today. Otherwise a quiet day, a few more windows to clean, and the kitchen needs a good tidy up too.
Have a good day everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 23-Aug-24 07:17:12

Morning all, the wind woke me just after 4am, it’s still very windy and raining.

I am exhausted already with a day of childcare ahead!!! Hoping the boys will be good and play nicely.

Keep dry folks 🙋‍♀️

Sar53 Fri 23-Aug-24 07:02:29

Good morning from a very windy Essex coast. I don't think it's going to be a very nice day.
DGD1 did very well in her GCSE'S and DGD2 passed the one exam they take a year early at her school. A very proud nanny here.
More washing today, I'm nearly at the end of it, thank goodness, and I need to vacuum through.
Have the best day you can everyone xx

cornergran Fri 23-Aug-24 06:51:57

Morning Mick, morning All from a blustery corner of Somerset. It’s foul out there. The wind in the huge trees along the riverbank sounds like an express train. Climbing roses are battered, the lawn full of petals, such a shame.

Couldn’t fault the carpet fitters yesterday. Quick, professional and pleasant. We’ll finish putting our bedroom to rights today and then I’ll deal with the dust. Very pleased with the outcome. All our flooring has been replaced during the last year, hard work but worth it.

Sadly our friend seems to have deteriorated further. Her poor daughter is at her wits end. They now have to deal with a car breakdown which can’t be fixed quickly. Their very rural home has no public transport which means our goddaughter will have even more exhausting days as she’ll ferry her husband to and from work around whizzing off to feed her Mum.

With thoughts to all dealing with problems of any kind and a hope Friday is gentle with us all

kittylester Fri 23-Aug-24 06:48:45

Good morning all from a wet and windy North Leicestershire.

Meeting an old friend in the village for a catch up then I have to go to the butcher's in the next village and Waitrose in yet another one.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Bellasnana Fri 23-Aug-24 06:38:31

Good morning from Malta where it is still in the mid 30°’s.

The promised thunderstorm never materialised yesterday, typical as I had moved all my plants away from the walls in my yard to avoid messing up the paint! However, other parts of the island did have quite a downpour. Not a drop fell where I live.

Early hair appointment today to do my roots. Not ready to embrace my grey yet.😄

When I get back I am going to empty my large bookcase as it desperately needs a good clean. Not a job I’m looking forward to at all.

Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Greyduster Fri 23-Aug-24 06:32:09

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a wet and very windy South Yorkshire. I seemed to sleep better last night. I called on DD after my walk yesterday and she took me out to lunch, which was lovely. Chiropodist is coming this morning, but nothing much else planned for today unless the weather dries up and I can get into the garden. I wanted to finish a sleeve on the cardigan I’m knitting today but my cabling needle seems to have disappeared into thin air. Where on earth do these things go?
Have the best day you can folks.
