Morning Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset feels chilly, should be a reasonable day if the forecast is right.

Managed some ground level taming of the climbing roses yesterday. Too windy to venture aloft. With luck we can get the remaining loose covers from the armchairs in the conservatory washed, dried, ironed and put back today. Pale cream looks good out there if not very sensible. We don’t venture out on bank holidays other than for a walk, as with most coastal areas the roads become more than busy.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Good morning all from a sunny Black country.
No plans today we very rarely do anything on a bank holiday, shall potter in the garden if the weather holds then perhaps start a new book.
Enjoy your last day of your holiday brook
Have a good day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️

Good morning all from N Bucks. There’s that “end of the summer/back to school” feeling in the air here, as though it’s sunny with clear skies, the air is fresher.
Bank holidays never featured in my “consciousness” in my working life as they were always subsumed into school holidays and everything is open anyway so I tend to forget about them.
But I did register that The Sound Of Music was on tv yesterday- that ought to have given me a clue!
I’m off to meet D2 and GS for lunch in London - trains permitting- and then we’re going to the Art of Banksy exhibition!
With commiserations to all who have had a bad night, it’s not an easy start to the day or the week and grandchildren seem to necessitate hitting the ground running. Hope you get some respite Marydoll and a pleasant day to you all.

MD, it seems that hymns are the traditional ones and “songs” are the post 1960s ones…

Good morning everyone from mid Essex where it’s dry and bright, a warm sunny day is forecast.
Yesterday I pottered in the house and garden, but don’t seem to have achieved much.
Today my daughters and families are taking me to see my 99 year old godmother, she’s a cousin of my mother’s and still lives alone with minimal help from friends. She is very deaf, so I hope she’s wearing her hearing aids! She can’t cope with us all for the day, so we’re coming back in time for lunch here.
Hope today is a good one, brook enjoy your last day of holiday in Menorca.

Good morning from Malta where we expect a high of 38°C and a low of 26°C. 🥵

It isn’t a holiday here so I have a nail appointment this morning.

The photo sorting really got me down yesterday. Too many memories and too many albums to deal with. I still haven’t been through them all. Hope to get everything put away today, otherwise no other plans.

Have a good day all.☀️

Ash Onward Christian Soldiers was Dad's favourite hymn and we sang it at his funeral. I love it too. It's so rousing

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 11°C. DH is golfing, but we have conflicting views of the weather forecast.

Unfortunately, I have had little sleep, my pain levels are high, which of course has made me a tad cross! 😉

GM, our PP gets very cross if someone uses the term song, rather than hymn.
We have two choirs, who sing at Sunday Mass, The 10am choir, have guitars, a fiddle and sometimes a double bass. It is quite folksy.
The 11.30am choir have a cantor and are accompanied by the organ.
They definitely add to the services.

I need to drop of a wax encrusted alb, which needed cleaning and check the Parish PC for something, ready for the handover to the new P,P.
An unexpected visit from a grumpy, teething BabyD., who has suddenly become a skilled mountaineer, has left me exhausted .
DIL was studying, so DS came here to give her some peace.

A very wet DS1 and DIL, completed their sponsored walk and smashed their fundraising target.
#proud mum

Have a good day folks. A shout out for Litterpicker!💐

Good morning everyone from our last full day in Menorca, this time tomorrow we’ll be putting on our warmer clothes and zipping up our suitcases ready to head home. All being well we should be home in Inverness tomorrow evening
Hope everyone enjoys BH Monday as much as possible
Enjoy your time with the DGSs grandmabatty and have fun
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It's not a Bank Holiday here. Our schools have been back for a couple of weeks.
It's not raining.

I had an unexpectedly pleasant day yesterday watching a potter's wood firing on a farm in East Lothian with some friends. This was followed by lunch at a garden centre. I packed my own electric kiln when I got home.

Today, I shall make some pots in my warm studio and prepare for my next volunteer Helper who will arrive this evening. She is staying for a fortnight so I hope to get more jobs done in the house and garden.

Hoping everyone has a nice day whatever you are doing.

Good morning from s somerset, lovely weather today

Such a difference to a sister in australia, they are dreading the forthcoming summer and likely heat. I have enjoyed summer here in the uk, been out lots and not much watering to do

I am expecting a filofax look-alike A5 file etc today, from amazon. I want to go through my hand made makes with mental criticism to make notes, I have made lots of different patterns and obviously some are much easier to wear than others and I want my wardrobe to eventually only contain tried and tested garments. I am looking forward to that bit of admin, which will make it easier to de-clutter

Food is easy today, I did all my washing yesterday and went on a cycle ride so today is definitely hand sewing and just doing things when I notice them, that reminds me, I need to glue some kitchen door edge trims back on

Have a good day

Good morning from a fine, bright Torbay.

I was interested in your comments about hymns, grandMattie and Grandmabatty as our early service, for which I was playing the piano, included Onward, Christian Soldiers and was sung with gusto!

No plans for today - I’ll probably just potter and try to catch up with jobs as it’s likely to be busy everywhere. Happy Bank Holiday! 🦩🥰😎💐🦩

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 10° and dry. It doesn't look promising though. RosesandLilac it's a shame the shine has been taken from your summerhouse. GrandMattie I love a hymn to sing. The more traditional, the better.
Yesterday I pottered about the house. The weather was awful so no gardening got done. Mum was chatty in the afternoon and remembered I had promised her lime curd, so I'll have to make more. I made a big batch of meatballs in the morning, kept out enough for yesterday and today and frozen the rest.
Today is a childcare day, but not as early as usual because dd is working from home. That didn't stop me waking up early though! So school drop off then playgroup drop off. Before I know it, dgs2 will be going to nursery all day and my role will be reduced. Dgs2 will have lentil soup for lunch then a nap. I might nap too! Have a good day all.

Good morning Mick and followers, I hope you enjoy your quiet time today.
It looks like we’ve had showers overnight, but the skies are clearing and it’s a definitely autumnal tang to the air.
I had a restless night, it’s just as well I sleep alone!
The carpenter is supposedly coming early to do more of the work on the summerhouse, I will take the dog out first and DH can deal with him if he does arrive.
The excitement of having it has long worn away.
I want to do some bits in the garden today, the beautiful climbing rose needs tidying and tying in, the little border at the end of the garden is overgrown with self-seeded nigella.
I hope you all have a lovely day 🌹

grandMattie Mon 26-Aug-24 06:18:39

Good morning from a cool Bristol. Yesterday’s weather went from dry and windy to still and pouring with rain, turning on a sixpence. Very odd.
Church was interesting. The choice of hymns (not songs yesterday) caused the reduced congregation to lift the rafters. I don’t know if the volume was increased or what, but talk about rousing!
The rest of the day was quiet. Thank you for your good wishes about feeling lonely; it was a comment not a complaint…
I had a long postprandial nap, having slept less the previous night; I average 5 hours so need it…
Today, being bank holiday, will be quiet as well. I’ll do some sewing, watch a film, potter. I shall also bake cakes for my “Singles Friendship” group at church. I set it up recently with the idea of bringing alone people together for a chat, and alleviate alone-ness.
I hope you manage to enjoy your bank holiday. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.
Elder son and his family went back to London yesterday afternoon. So today will mainly consist of laundry. I also need to do a Waitrose shop. Although elder son did a lot of food shopping and cooking, the cupboard is nearly bare!

Assuming the weather stays fine OH will play U3A croquet after lunch.

Our cleaner won’t be coming today. We’d totally forgotten it was Bank Holiday Monday until she texted to say she wasn’t coming.

Have a good day everyone. I wonder whether the Urms are back from Spain yet.
