Is anyone else fed up to the back teeth with all the hype over Oasis getting back together. Listening, reluctantly, to the bits of their "music" on the news, it is just a noise. Lyrics? are indistinguishable, and how can they be called the Greatest Song Writers?
OK,
I shall now retreat and wait for the backlash.

The Gallagher brothers are rather pointless in my opinion, the way they swagger around swearing for the sake of it, like a couple of attention seeking teens - even at their present age, puts my teeth on edge. But they do have lots of fans who would probs love to see them perform. I wouldn't go to the bottom of the stairs for them.
I suppose is a slow week for news.

Lomo123 Tue 27-Aug-24 20:37:25

Can't say I'm bothered about them but OH was ranting and raving about the fact it was headline news this morning. Think the word he used was chavs.

tickingbird Tue 27-Aug-24 20:42:22

What nasty, bitter sounding comments.

“Two chavvy blokes”. “Sang a few rock songs”.

Sold millions of albums, sold out stadiums. Noel wrote the songs and some are classics.

Not my favourites but to dismiss them as chavs, lumpish blokes etc is nonsense.

Strange how comments about H&M or certain politicians (usually Labour) are greeted with cries of “how unpleasant” “so nasty” blah blah but two working class lads who’ve done very well for themselves can be described as chavs and lumps. Doesn’t it worry you they may read these comments and be mortified? You seem to think it matters with everyone else.

I know they're knocking on a bit, but I doubt they read gransnet.

Deedaa Tue 27-Aug-24 20:57:03

I saw a bit of whichever brother it was (Liam?) at Reading and was surprised how bad he was. Certainly couldn't see why the Beeb broadcast him instead of The Prodigy. They once did a couple of good songs but I can't say I've missed them since they split.

Sorry tickingbird but I can't imagine the brothers ever being mortified by the opinions of some elderly ladies.

Babs03 Tue 27-Aug-24 21:00:42

@tickingbird
Believe me the Gallagher brothers have courted bad publicity, they love the ‘bad boys’ label many have given them, and live up to it on every occasion, so I doubt they would bother about a few less than glowing comments on Gransnet, they have been called much worse and revelled in it.
Is all part of their brand.

But maybe Peggy reads Gransnet 🤣🤣🤣

Good Grief! You’re all at it again. I thought Sam Smith at the Proms was bad enough.

I can fully understand the excitement of their fans even though I’m of a different generation.

Rock and Roll innit? 😂

🤣🤣🤣

LOUISA1523 Tue 27-Aug-24 22:56:41

I've seen both perform sets at festivals ( with their own bands) .....last saw noel just 4 weeks ago at kendal calling....and they are always deliver .....at the end of.the day people.just want a good old.singalong to the likes of wonderwall and half a life away.....and thats what they get.....they will fill stadiums and then some

Allira Tue 27-Aug-24 23:28:55

I think they might laugh! I doubt they'll be crying their hearts out or looking back in anger - they'd probably tell us to get off your high horse, ladies

LadyGaGa Tue 27-Aug-24 23:36:14

It’s just rock and roll! The anthems of my children’s teenage years. I love their songs and saw them in Manchester many years ago. I’m on ticket duty on Sat along with my family. I won’t be going but happy to help. Surely it’s nice to have a bit of light relief on the news. Just let it be (sorry, wrong band 😉)

henetha Tue 27-Aug-24 23:38:06

Whatever we may say about their shenanigans, there's no doubt that their music is very powerful with some good lyrics. Millions loved them, and will again next year. (That's if they are still together!). 😁

Some hilarious comments here, really great !!

I'm fed up with this reunion already, always thought they were obnoxious, sweary, leery, scowling miseries. That nauseating whine Liam makes whilst trying to eat the microphone just makes my toes curl. I don't go for the bad boy image and their miserable faces are a real turn off.

Just saw a little piece on You Tube about some 60s bands which have disappeared, The Association, The Zombies, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Turtles. All sang and played so well and had some great songs. Makes you realise how bad Oasis were!

crazyH Wed 28-Aug-24 00:05:52

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Rekarie Wed 28-Aug-24 03:33:04

Well I'm thrilled about it.

It makes a change from all the misery that seems to be the norm these days.

Many people are very happy about it which is a good thing .

I'm loving the hype.

ferry23 Wed 28-Aug-24 05:21:46

Going to see the Stones in Hyde Park pretty much dominated my life for a few months. It was certainly important news for my teenage self.

If there had been a Gransnet back then I'm sure my parents or grandparents would have been contributing pretty much the same comments as we have here.

The only difference being the Stones are worth getting excited about ...grinwink

mae13 Wed 28-Aug-24 06:07:32

I'm fed up too. Their 'stuff' is suddenly everywhere - just two middle-aged Blokey Blokes who have likely been advised by their accountants that their pension pots could do with topping up.

"Just do a quick 'Reunion Tour' lads, and you'll rake it in. They've all done it - Girls Aloud, West Life, Boyzone, Steps and God knows how many reunions Take That have done, I've lost count!"

BigBopper Wed 28-Aug-24 06:10:24

Our son and his wife have bought tickets and booked a hotel for their show and I said the same as another poster, don't bother, they will have split up again by next year.

BigBopper Wed 28-Aug-24 06:13:48

@BABS03........ I totally agree, but then I am of an age that thinks rock n roll from the 50's and 60's is the best thing ever, but perhaps many people won't agree with that.

BigBopper Wed 28-Aug-24 06:15:10

@FERRY23....... I agree and also not forgetting the Beatles, The Searchers, etc. etc. I bopped till I dropped.

Calendargirl Wed 28-Aug-24 06:22:51

I thought they made some great songs.

Yes, I expect they need to top up their wallets.

Bridie22 Wed 28-Aug-24 06:26:23

I don't mind Oasis, but prefer Noels High Flying Birds.

Nansnet Wed 28-Aug-24 07:16:30

Looking at the many comments here, I remember my grandparents saying the same things about bands I liked when I was a teenager!

Here's one set of grandparents who love Oasis! Their music takes us back to a wonderful time in our lives, and brings back many happy memories. We went to see them twice, along with our then teenaged children, who are now adults and also still love their music. DD is going to try to get tickets for this tour, I hope she's successful!

Bring back Oasis, I say!grin
