Supermarket receipts

I’m a regular Tesco shopper and my receipts are fine, perfectly legible. I say this with confidence because I keep them usually until the end of each month.

Perhaps speak to the store manager at the branch where you shop?

My receipts are fine, but they are from the regular check outs, not scan and pay.

I use scan and pay, in Tesco, and Aldi, and all receipts are legible, I keep them until monies cleared by bank. Longer if receipt for household goods or clothing. Never had any pr9blems. Might be trouble with the printer in the receipt machine. Get customer services on to it.

My main complaint with supermarket receipts is the way the date is always in tiny print, somewhere down at the bottom. On the rare occasions I want to ask for a refund it just gets more complicated if the date isn't clearly visible.

My Tesco receipts are very legible so no problem I use scan and shop. As suggested show one to the manager.

My one gripe is that the receipts don't show the products in order of purchase when you use a scanner, very annoying when you need to find a particular product. As far as I know other supermarkets do this.

My lidl one is sent to my phone and stays as long as you want with all the details of a paper one

Same at M&S - I get email receipts.

If you have a problem with an item, and your receipt is illegible, offer the store the day and roughly the time of your visit, and they are obliged, under the Sale of Goods Act, to supply you with a copy of your receipt. This worked for me when I had an item from M and S which was subsequently in the sale, and they insisted they would refund only the sale price. When pressed to give me a copy of my receipt, they didn't want the hassle, realised I would not be insisting if I were trying to cheat them, and refunded the full price.

I have also. had experience of illegible Tesco receipts - they are often smudged or the printer is low on ink rendering them almost useless as proof of purchase.

Maybe you need to go to specsavers 😜

I have no idea whether they could or could not make more durable receipts.

The ones we get here last longer than a couple of days, but fade long before the guarantee period is up, if you buy anything you might want to complain about, or anything that can be returned up to January 31st etc.

What I do, is to photograph the receipt when I get home, making quite sure that both the date, the store's name and the price are legible, then download the photo from my phone to my computer.

You can store the receipt on your phone if you prefer, but then if you either change phones or have your phone stolen, you lose the receipt.

I file the photos in a folder called receipts on my computer and file the actual paper receipt in an envelope that I date and add what the receipt is for.

No-one has ever refused to accept these photos, if the receipt was no longer legible.

I bought some fresh chicken kebabs inAldi this week which should have had 30% off each pack. Just about to bin receipt and noticed I was charged full price. Rang Aldi and they will refund if I take receipt in.

I have no issues with Morrisons receipts except when they tell me I have purchased a kilo of bananas when I have actually only purchased half a kilo because their scales aren’t registering properly. It probably cost me as much in petrol to go back and query it as the amount they repaid me!

I don't generally have a problem with receipts but yesterday I used the machine in the health centre which measures your height, weight and blood pressure, before my annual diabetic review. When I tried to compare it with the previous ones, which I keep in the back of my diary, the old printouts had faded completely.

Note to self - keep a separate record somewhere at home and write them in every time. I was aware I had lost height with age but yesterday was the first time I was less than 5 feet tall. Apparently I'm now 4 foot 11.8 inches short! I could wear thick socks next time, but then they may add a few ounces to my weight!

They are too lazy to replace the ink cartridge in the machine.

ASDA paper receipts must be printed with some kind of self-erasing ink. Within 24 hours they are illegible and fading. Sainsbury receipts, on the other hand, are bold and readable until I bin them.

Yep- had those in the past. Tescos are always making mistakes so I now go through mine with fine tooth comb

A lot of stores use thermal printers rather than actual inked ones, and these are the ones that end up illegible.
Lidl and McDonald's seem to be the worst in my experience, especially if you fold the receipt, it can end up with no end of weird marks all over it.

I’ve not had problems with receipts so far, scanner or till service, except when I toss them in the bag next to frozen food, but that’s my fault. Lidl, on that grey paper, made me swap to online.

Halfords will send receipts to your e-mail address,
just make sure you have given the cashier your correct e-mail address.

This idea will eventually spread to other retail outlets,
