That's a lovely theme grannysomerset. What is this life if full of care We have no time to stand and stare. Sometimes the joy is hard to find but it's always there but just temporarily out of sight x

GrannySomerset Sat 31-Aug-24 10:19:51

Another lovely day is promised so will do some tidying in the garden and think about spring planting as it’s bulb ordering time. Nothing else on the cards apart from finishing off tomorrow’s lay service for which my theme is gratitude - not a very prevalent attitude in today’s me focussed world. Lots of things to be grateful for even in the current world circumstances.

My weather app showed not should!!!

Taichinan Sat 31-Aug-24 10:11:19

A very late good morning to you Mick and everyone. I stupidly looked at the weather app last thing last night and it should bright ☀️ from the word go. I woke up at 7 prepared to jump out of bed when I saw cloudy skies instead! So I went back to sleep for two hours instead and low and behold it's sunny now.
I'm glad you are feeling the benefit of your injection Ash.
That door is certainly 'interesting' Mizuna!
It sounds as if you yourself had a lucky escape and were not electrocuted by that iron Redcar!
I went down to M&S as planned yesterday and got something for DS1's birthday. I was actually trying to get him something for his holiday to Crete in a couple of weeks' time, but the winter stock had just come in!! Actually there is quite a lot of stuff I really rather like for me ....... I'll be back 😉
Nothing at all on the cards here, but of course I'll find plenty of pottering in the sunshine. Have a good day everybody x

Good morning Mick and all from Sunnyside northwest coast. It’s been nice to type Sunnyside for the last few days.
Lovely day at a different seaside yesterday with old friend. We had arranged to meet for lunch and I was in the station cafe having a coffee waiting (not lunch) when he arrived. He promptly ate a massive scone with jam and cream, which threw my lunch plan out of kilter…he can be odd. Nice beach time and lunch (eventually) My steak was too pink and tough and he just had cheese on toast…
He’s diminished after eye problems and a bad back and was rather hard work. I’m the chatterbox.

Last day of feeding the cat next door as my neighbours come home after a hot holiday and I’m debating whether to go to the local play tonight as cough not bothering me.

Sad news in the town as our very individual bookshop, full of character and over a hundred years continuous business, is closing. The owner was a long standing family friend and passed away earlier this year. I can’t really believe it😢
Thoughts to all as always🌺

Good Morning from Durham.
Another fine, sunny day, although last night’s dog walk was decidedly chilly.
Yesterday, I took DGS1 to a local farm, then finally, the Sky problem was sorted - I felt very let down by them.
DD2 arrived safely in New York - her 40th visit! I’m relieved, as flights don’t always go to plan.
I’m in a quandary about some work to the house and getting conflicting recommendations. The builder is on holiday now, so it’ll have to wait.
Today, just coffee with a friend soon, then I’ll get a bit of food shopping on my way home, followed by pottering around.
Best wishes to all. X

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle but it was only 8°C at 7.30am.
Autumn is definitely beckoning, the prettily marked orb weaving spiders are now hanging from the bushes and the house martins whizzing round ready for the off.
Yesterday, I felt improved so drove round to the garden centre for some tulip bulbs. On the way, lots of action on our end of the new bypass, plus there are roadworks springing up everywhere I go at the moment. Although I had sworn only to get tulips, I remembered I had an empty spot or two for small items. I came out with a small trolley full! Worse, on passing by the clothing section inside, I noticed they were now stocking one of my favourite brands and, what's more, they had a sale. I came out with a heavyweight zipped top ideal for the colder weather. My bill came to far in excess of what I'd intended but it is payday...
After lunch I was out in the garden in the warm sun planting some of my purchases. Then it was warm enough for once to have my afternoon coffee out there.
However careful my movements yesterday, it has set me back a little so a day of gentle pottering lies ahead and hopefully more coffee breaks outside.

An unpleasant surprise for you Redcar, that iron must have been seriously faulty to knock all your circuits out.

Have a lovely day everyone.

Good morning,

It’s another beautiful morning here, but slightly chilly at the moment. I think we are in for a fine day to end August.

I’ve got a few garden chores to get on with today, and a prescription to collect. Otherwise, not a lot planned.

Have a nice Saturday.

Good morning everyone from a slightly cloudy Northampton, a fine dry day ahead.

Had a lovely morning yesterday when my friend and neighbour came for coffee, chatted and set the world to rights for a couple of hours.
Had planned to pop down to Sainsbury's afterwards to pick up my laundered duvet, but she said as she was already going out she would pick it up for me, which was most kind of her.

Got the back grass cut at last after lunch, and also pruned back the unruly vine, being careful to not remove any grapes! Then picked a few apples off my espalier tree.

Shall go to our little retail park later this morning for a top-up shop, then this afternoon sit out and read if the weather is kind.

Have a good Saturday everyone.

Good morning from a grey W Kent, bit of a shock after yesterday’s sunshine. We enjoyed a lovely country day out and the gardens at Sissinghurst were beautiful.
Another bed changing day here and a small shop to be done.
DGS3 is off back to University but only to play tennis.
Best wishes

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 31-Aug-24 08:13:34

I’ve just checked the website for our local NT place. The house and gardens are both shut this weekend. Boo.

Good morning from a very autumnal feeling Black Country.

Had a good day yesterday, took Mum to the Memory Cafe, where we won the raffle. Two tickets for a show at the Theatre. Then we met DD and family for lunch.

Today will be busy with cutting the lawn and weeding, then packing, as we are off to Weymouth in our caravan tomorrow for a week.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 31-Aug-24 08:05:52

Morning all from a hazy West Oxfordshire.

My shopping trip to Oxford was reasonably successful yesterday. The black trousers I bought will go with lots of things. Shame about a new bathroom mirror. I didn’t buy one as I thought £40 was too much!

My sister in Australia messaged me about my brother’s forthcoming 70th next February. She wondered if I am flying out for it - they both came to mine last year. The thing is, as she pointed out, February is their hottest and most uncomfortable month. I went to my sister’s 60th a few years ago in January. It was very hot and there were bush fires threatening Sydney where she lives. But, and this is a big but, my brother and his partner live north of Sydney in a sort of hippy compound and there are snakes ! I can’t remember if I posted a photo of the rather large python in their shed. My brother’s partner is standing watching it while eating a bowl of cereal. I’m not sure what to do.

Today will be a quiet day unless we pop over to our local NT property and have a cream tea.

Have a good day all of you.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 31-Aug-24 08:04:18

Morning all from a grey corner of Essex.

I need to go to the local butchers first thing, then Aldi’s. This afternoon I intend to cook 2 kilos of bolognaise sauce to freeze in portions. Not sure what’s for dinner tonight 🤣

Pleased your knee is easier Ashcombe

Enjoy your day folks 🙋‍♀️

Good morning all from another sunny day in Suffolk. We shall have our usual dog walk locally and will start venturing further afield sometimes when the vast number of summer visitors leave in the next few days for the return to schools.

Gingster I can beat your notice of a Christmas grotto. In a local village hall where my 2 classes are held, we all saw the notice on the window about the pantomime being held there in February 2025!

It is a local production, well regarded and attended but really! We intend to continue enjoying things as they happen rather than looking too far ahead.

Hope today is a good one for everyone.

Good morning all from a sunny Glasgow, where it is only 3°C!

My adventure yesterday was a trip to Edinburgh on my own. DH and DS asked how I was going to spend the day. The look on their face was a picture! They were concerned I might feel unwell, with no-one to help me.
The sun was shining and I was quite happy to stroll, with frequent rests. For the first time in years, I got a chance to wander round JL, without a huffing, puffing and sighing sound in my ears.😉
Unfortunately on my return journey, trying to avoid the walk from Queen Street Station, I jumped on the train to Glasgow Central. I had forgotten that this is the slowest train ever. It must have stopped in every small town between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
However, my joints have totally seized up this morning. It was worth it.
My children must have been concerned. DD offered to pick me up in town, DS2 wanted to come and get me at the station and DIL and SIL, kept checking up on me!.😂
I eventually had to put the tracker on my phone, so that they could see I was O.K.

When I was on the train, I got a message to say that after twenty years in her job, she had been made redundant, I was devastated for her. 😔
However, I suspect her company may in financial trouble and it is better to get out now.
She tried to phone me on the train, but the reception was awful. DH will be able to offer advice.

A very busy day ahead for me. I never shop on Saturday, but we need groceries. I have no assistant sacristan to support me tonight and the P.P. is still away, so I will be very busy. The curate hasn't sent the parish bulletin, to distribute electronically and upload to the website. He is in for a shock, and a telling off if he sends it later, I won't have time.

I am pleased to hear that you have felt a little improvement Ash, and Baubles have a great day out in town.
For all those with plans, enjoy!

harrigran Sat 31-Aug-24 07:54:57

Good morning from a sunny but cool NE, the heating is on.
Yesterday was a lovely day spent with DD and SIL, unfortunately there was an accident on one of the roads which doubled the time it took to reach me. We didn't have a booked time for the restaurant, it was a country inn where you can just turn up so all okay in the end.
After lunch we went to a car showroom as SIL would like a new car and he wanted me to sit in the passenger seat to see if I could get in and out without difficulty. He also wanted adequate boot space for when three of us go on holiday. He is so thoughtful.
Yesterday evening we had a glass of Champagne and looked at DD's holiday photos.

Today I am on my own but need to wrap both GDs birthday gifts as tomorrow is the family celebration before DD returns to Brussels on Monday. I will also need to do some tidying up in the kitchen and mop the floors.
Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 7° and hazy sun. Ash I'm glad you are getting some relief from your knee. Monk I love when it's a fresh bed.
Yesterday was a nice day. Dd called in early with dgs2. He had been really upset because he wanted to stay at the nursery when she dropped off dgs1 at school. Then he didn't want to go to playgroup but wanted grandma. So we had a wee cuddle and he trotted off to playgroup fine. Later I went to dds and we drove to dgs1's school for a family picnic. It was started in memory of one of their pupils who died and donations go to the children's hospice. It was very pleasant although the numbers seemed lower than last year. I was talking to the Depute Head who I worked with when teaching and offered to volunteer for the library. She was delighted and is going to contact me soon with details. I was a chartered librarian before I went into teaching and she was really pleased to hear that. Later Tesco delivered so dinner was a chicken curry.
Today I'll have a walk to Aldi for a couple of things I forgot to order from Tesco. Like Monk, the bedding is being washed today and I have a small ironing to do. I might potter about the garden if it stays fine. Sausage and mash for dinner. Have a good day all.

Good morning from a sunny warm Cambs, where it should reach 21 degrees today. I’m beginning to feel better now after this viral thing I’ve had this week but going to have a restful weekend not doing a lot getting back on my feet for what I will need to do next week. My GC school had a fire a few weeks ago and just heard the school not re opening until end of September. Going to be a nightmare for a lot of the parents and grandparents too. Certainly a very long summer holiday…. Such a disaster for the school so much has been lost.

Hope everyone has a good day. September beckons 💐

Gingster Sat 31-Aug-24 07:46:26

Good morning with no sun here at the moment in Essex. It looks dull and drizzly. I don’t mind as it’s a bit of a relief from the hot sun. (I know I’m weird).

We popped into a local nursery yesterday as it’s on our way to our usual pub. I wanted autumn plants for pots and tubs. Hardly any to be had. We’re always disappointed with this place and usually walk out with nothing. It’s a big nursery with lovely craft and gifts, the cafe is always full but I don’t think they can sell many plants. They were advertising for Santas Grotto bookings! 🙄

A lovely catch up with our pals and another invite for a 75th birthday lunch. All the chaps are 75 this year, so celebrations come , one after another. Dh is the last in November.

Nothing planned today. Dh and ds1 will go to footie this afternoon. Like you, Kitty I’ll read the paper and my book, and maybe a Netflix drama. I hope your Dd is improving 🙏.

Take care all and enjoy the day, 🌻

Redcar Sat 31-Aug-24 07:40:27

Good morning everyone from mid Essex where it’s cloudy and a bit showery, hope it clears soon.
Yesterday was rather stressful because my iron blew up in a blue flash and a loud bang! I only had two more things to iron! The bang was the circuit breaker turning off all the ring mains in the house. I wasn’t able to persuade it to reset, despite following the correct procedure. Fortunately the electrician was able to come out and fix it quickly. I’ve ordered a new iron.
I didn’t win anything at bingo last night but it was good to catch up with friends anyway.
I’ve just stripped the bed and the washing machine is on. Quiet day today as both daughters and families are away in Suffolk for the weekend.
ash I’m pleased your knee injection is working 🤞. bella have a good day with your Dd1.
I hope today is a good one for everyone.

monk08 Sat 31-Aug-24 07:35:25

Good morning from a sunny Black country.
Yesterday turned out to be a very productive day, bed linen washed dried, ironed and back on the bed.
Front lawn mowed and garden and path relieved of their weeds.
Inside windows cleaned.
Today will be less tiring, over to friends later.
Usual full English calling so will catch up later with everybody's happenings.
Have a good day everyone and may you all find some ☀️.

brook2704 Sat 31-Aug-24 07:26:35

Good morning everyone from Inverness, the sun is just up and we’ve a clear blue sky
A really interesting picture mizuna I had to look twice for the door!
We’re off to DD2s later, helping to sort out and box up some more things with her. We’re also going to the flooring shop to get some samples and take them to the potential new house. The house chain that she’s in is taking ages as apparently one of the buyers is from overseas - no idea how that’ll work out but just still hoping it doesn’t all fall through!
Enjoy lunch out with your DGD baubles
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

kittylester Sat 31-Aug-24 07:20:23

Good morning all from a brightish North Leicestershire.

DH and DS1 are off to football this afternoon so I have an empty. The papers and some tv catchup is on the cards.

Have the best day possible everyone.

karmalady Sat 31-Aug-24 07:19:46

Good morning from s somerset, dry and dull all day after a couple of hours of sun

Reading your knee news was uplifting Ash, very encouraging progress

Not sure about today, I have a neat top to finish, just the ribbing left. Nothing else is planned but definitely sewing and pottering in the kitchen, reading beckons too

Have a good day
