Another missing poster

If this were a light hearted thread, I’d be tempted to suggest that Gransnet is beginning to feel like Midsomer Murders. Yet another poster has disappeared in mysterious circumstances.

It’s deadly serious though. Attempts to contact Urmstongran are falling on stony ground and many of us are concerned because we know how challenging her life is at the moment.

Many of us have received messages of support from Urms when life has dealt us the cruellest of blows and yet we are unable to contact her via pms.

She always let us know when she was taking a break from GN so to go on a long awaited holiday and just disappear is out of character.

I suspect foul play and I’m not taking the p**s!

I m so stupid I never manage to recognise old posters who change their names I really just read what people have to say and not who they are
Like others have said I don’t report only adverts or scammers like all the spells etc
I can’t imagine why anyone would have reported Callistemom, mind you I got a post deleted a few days ago and I can’t think why? as it was totally innocuous but I do wonder if the poster who said English wasn’t her first language got the wrong end of the stick and reported it it’s a mystery but worrying, if you didn’t say anything bad , and HQ don’t tell you what they think you said wrong No way to defend yourself No word from them about it !!

I presume GN has had to go "woke" hence a sort of restriction on honest and open debate. I think GSM lives in my area and when I go into my local town I have been looking for a lady with German shepherds out shopping!! I'm pleased she is not leaving.

Aldom Sat 31-Aug-24 13:31:51

Hello Callistermon you are much missed. Hope you are able to return to GN at some time in the future.
Good wishes.

I agree with Terribull. If, as it seems, people are banned on the say-so of one poster, it’s as though we’re being ruled by petty tyrants.

I must admit that I often don’t notice the names of posters and can never remember who said what anyway, but I think banning people makes GN a less interesting place.

Yes it is. HQ just don’t get that friendships can be formed in groups like Gransnet even though you might never meet the person in real life.

We were all deeply saddened when phoenix died and every time jingl was banned I felt like I did at school when a good friend moved house and had to leave.

HQ lacks basic humanity. Behind every username there is a real person!

I too miss Callistemon

*Unless you have the ability to hide your IP then simply changing your name isn't going to get you back to the forum*

There are some easy ways around this. If you use a mobile device (as opposed to a laptop of PC) your IP will be slightly different each time you go online.

Then there are VPNS.

Exactly this! That is why some can come back after changing their username and rename undetected.

I am in touch with Urmstongran she is well.

Unfortunately she is experiencing technical difficulties with GN, and GNHQ are not responding.

Oh, I’m SO relieved, GG13H. Thank you!
Give her my love when you next contact her, please.

Very depressing that so many intelligent and interesting people have been disappeared - feels very sinister. I value the range of views, some of which I disagree with. It all helps me keep in touch with the wider world and stops me being certain that I am right all the time.

TerriBull Sat 31-Aug-24 13:16:35

I'm sure Urmstongran will reappear once she's back in the country, I hope so.

I do miss Callistemon, I can't imagine why she was ever banned, always worth reading, with a good sense of humour, personally I like a bit of levity depending on the subject matter.

I hope all the posters mentioned will return they all had something to offer imo.

^I'm afraid this is what happens when people report another poster^

Ironically, I reported a regular poster last week. For the first time in my 18 months.
And I am glad I did.
I think we all have lines that cannot really be crossed.

I am a mild poster. And person. I think.
But I am not a doormat, and I dont think people should be.

I think if anyone is insulting us personally (or any other GN for that matter) then they should be reported, likewise scammers.

I miss those no longer posting and wish them well (& to come back please)

Cossy Sat 31-Aug-24 13:12:56

The posters mentioned are definitely all missed, whether they have been suspended, banned or chosen to leave. I may not always have agreed with some of their views, but I respected them. I honestly don't understand why we can't just agree to disagree over things and behave like the adults we are supposed to be. To those who are still in touch with them, do pass on my regards.

And mine too please

I still remain clueless as to what she is supposed to have done that was so bad.

That applies to all those who have been banned. It seems there are people who won't tolerate others posting different views to their own. Snowflakes presumably.

I have only reported the scammers and fake posters when it's obvious they are not real people. Otherwise I don't care what anyone says, I will never report them. Live and let live. Accept that others will say things you don't like.

Unfortunately, the last two threads about missing posters were deleted by GNHQ. I wonder how long this one will last.

I am in touch with Callistemon, she is still reading, but unable to post.
Unfortunately, it is always the interesting posters, who disappear.

Back in the day there was a website called GrannyNet. The posts were pre moderated and it was so twee everyone died of boredom.

It closed!!

We’re not children and this current censorship is insulting.

I am so pleased to hear that Urmstongran is OK, just having technical issues. All best wishes Urms. smile

NotSpaghetti Sat 31-Aug-24 12:32:43

GSM and Iwere often on different sides of the argument but remained respectful.
I'm glad I know what happened as I have tried several times to PM her (about the time she vanished) and the messages didn't say the account was closed/suspended or whatever - it just came up as an error.

I wish there was a way Gransnet could say "this poster is currently unavailable" or similar.
So "Hello GSM". It wasn't anything important just that. "Hello - hope you are OK".

It’s very sad!

Anyone know what’s happened to Glorianny (maybe wrong spelling)

Forgotten about her.

There are a lot of posters beginning with the letters C, G, M and N.
I get them confused, unfortunately.

fancythat Sat 31-Aug-24 12:27:40

I called it out as well.

I'm afraid this is what happens when people report another poster. They disappear. There has been a lot of reporting it seems and that can only be a bad thing. It will change the dynamics of the site and turn it into an echo chamber.

I’ve NEVER reported anyone on GN and would prefer to call-out anything I take issue with!

I miss GSM - she was so helpful. She was generous with her legal advice p, in a very understated way.

I miss her too! Even her bluntness and politics!
