If this were a light hearted thread, I’d be tempted to suggest that Gransnet is beginning to feel like Midsomer Murders. Yet another poster has disappeared in mysterious circumstances.

It’s deadly serious though. Attempts to contact Urmstongran are falling on stony ground and many of us are concerned because we know how challenging her life is at the moment.

Many of us have received messages of support from Urms when life has dealt us the cruellest of blows and yet we are unable to contact her via pms.

She always let us know when she was taking a break from GN so to go on a long awaited holiday and just disappear is out of character.

I suspect foul play and I’m not taking the p**s!

Hello, everyone.

You’re probably aware that two previous threads similar to this were deleted because they became a bit of a battleground with many personal attacks and rehashing of old arguments, etc. We ask that you don’t do this here if you want this thread to remain standing.

For those who missed our previous posts on this, we’d like to reiterate that we don’t generally discuss our interactions with individual users elsewhere. We appreciate this means you probably won’t get the answers you’re looking for wrt specific posters and things may appear unclear - but it simply wouldn’t be fair for us to go down this road. On GN, we operate very light touch moderation and want to keep intervention from HQ to a minimum. That doesn't mean it's a free-for-all, however, and, like most online forums, we need to have a few rules in place to ensure the boards are welcoming for all (apart from trolls). If we make the decision to suspend or close an account, it’s usually after a sustained period of communication between the poster concerned and GNHQ. Posters will be aware that their posts are breaking guidelines and why, and most are given multiple opportunities to resolve the issue.

GNHQ also has access to a lot more information than GNers - we see a bigger picture whereas you may just see a few posts. We’re not banning people at whim but our patience does have its limits and we simply can’t keep ignoring it when posters continue to break guidelines. It really comes down to the fact that if you want to remain on Gransnet, you need to post within our guidelines.
Thank you.

Other people don't need to know why someone was banned.
It is their business, and should remain so.

I reported a really worrying post on Saturday and received the usual automatic response but shortly afterwards I received a nice personal email from a moderator. There do seem to be people around.

Maybe GN are selling the site?

Anyone who is ignored and is prevented from getting back into the site is in effect excluded.
it doesn't really matter what you want call it.

I hope this glitch is put right for them All.

IMO it does matter.

If you are banned, you are permanently excluded. There have been occasions when after a long campaign, posters have been allowed back in. An example of this is the Doghouse Grans.

If you are suspended, you are notified of the reason for it, advised of the length of the suspension, you then make your apologies, give assurances that you will behave and usually the suspension is lifted.

However, I know a suspended poster, who refused (in her words) to grovel, so effectively she is still suspended.

Our internet has been up and down for days and I hadn't been able to access GN, so I too have been excluded!

The fact that this thread, with content very similar to the two deleted threads, has remained without any intervention from HQ, despite individual posters being discussed, has made me question, whether anyone is actually on duty. Alternatively, perhaps this clunky site is having technical problems, (not unusual) which makes it difficult for GNHQ to resolve them.

We will never know!

Well I hope it all gets resolved asap for Calli, Urmston and any others in the same position. It does seem very strange that there’s radio silence from HQ. I contacted them recently about a minor tech issue and haven’t had a reply. They always used to be very helpful.

Callistemon is not the only one left in limbo. As I said before, it seems like all the humans have left GNHQ because no-one is answering anything. I have written twice. Posters have been deleted from the forums and left hanging with no explanation. Something is a bit weird.

Marydoll Sun 01-Sept-24 23:14:12

I have also posted this on the other thread.

To put an end to the speculation and misinformation, the following statement is from Callistemon

I was suspended for 7 days, but NOT banned
If I asked nicely and promised to abide by guidelines, I would be allowed back but nothing has happened despite asking.

I hope GNHQ take notice.

Marydoll Sun 01-Sept-24 22:35:47

I looked him up and he has been married three times. His two previous marriages lasted only a short time, so there is still hope! 🤣

Just so long as you all remember that Rufus Sewell is mine.

He likes the young ones! ... think his current wife is like 25 or something

I don't think being polite (ish) is particularly saintly.
I was bought up that way.

Oreo Sun 01-Sept-24 21:27:04

Only saints on a chat forum then😇

I think people are grown up enough yo know if they are being offensive, unless they're playing the wide eyed innocent card, of course.

Exactly. Either people know damn well they're being offensive but don't care and just keep offending people, or are just too ignorant to know that they're rude and insensitive. Both groups are off putting and annoying and just don't belong on a chat forum in my opinion.

I still don't fancy Sean Bean in or out if uniform. Sorry. But my Dev from Corrie!!

Me neither.
I'm waiting for Pierce Brosnan in the Thursday Murder Club.

She was also Aveline

Apologies, Allira.
I hadn't realised there had been a second Aveline.

That's ok.
I hadn't remembered there was a previous Aveline until you said.

Now a third, our very own Aveline!
