I agree about a cashmere jumper. I look after mine and wash them by hand and they have lasted years and years. They are very light as well as warm so pack up well and I stick one of my older ones in a plastic bag and put into a rucsac or bag when out walking anywhere as it is easy to get out if it turns cold. Then I also think that at this time of year you could wear some thermals underneath and still wear your summer trousers, which is what I do. It is quite cheering as you look quite summery still but are warm. I live in North Yorkshire and think you will be fine here. I would suggest that you have some good gloves and a hat with you so that you can put on or take off according to the weather. Look back at your older clothes and see which things you really used a lot and enjoyed and go for more of the same. To me the art of dressing well is choosing something that I feel comfortable in and once dressed I hardly need to be aware of the clothes , they just let me get on with things.

Mostly some excellent ideas. But please no scarves. They scream oldish lady trying to be trendy.

This style is what I feel comfortable in and think suits me.
Leggings to just below the knee in summer rather than cropped trousers, jeggings or warm slimline joggers with boots in winter.
Having a small bust measurement compared to hips I feel this is a good balanced shape.
I don't feel a need to spend a lot of money on day-to-day casual clothes so it's usually Matalan or George at Asda for tops, jumpers and joggers, M&S for the jeggings as I like their long length.
I had some nice dresses and casual lightweight trousers this summer from Amazon.
My main rule is nothing that needs ironing! 😬

Leggings, Jeggings, etc there is a lot of choice but tops are more problematic. I search for tunic dresses that are about 40 inches long. They are not easy to find. Then I have a Jumper or fleecy jacket I can wear over the top or a long winter coat with a hood. I am currently looking for another long tunic dress at a reasonable price and having no luck.

I wouldn't be seen dead in leggings or jeggings, some people look fine from the front but their backsides look awful.

Pick someone on TV eg Mary Berry and then ask Google where she buys her clothes. You can pick someone whose style you admire.

My everyday Autumn/Winter wardrobe is NYDJ cords/jeans/trousers, white shirts and cashmere jumpers.
I always have a nice belt and bag and polished shoes/boots.

OP, I think Lands' End do nice outdoor clothing.

Black and navy and navy and brown are both classic pairings in clothes as long as you get the tones correct. I would and do wear both.

Depending on how much you want to spend, Kiwiqueen I'm another fan of cashmere for making a simple pair of trousers or jeans feel a bit special especially if matched with a lovely scarf that picks up the colour of the cashmere. Cashmere and cotton do a great range of easy to wear cashmere jumpers suitable for all body types and in some lovely colours. Over the past few years I've bought several and been pleased with the quality.

You might be best going to shops that specifically sell outdoor clothing such as Mountain Warehouse or Craghoppers.

Not navy and black together (or brown) for me either. I do like some classy trainers, though, as long as they’re comfortable. Layers look good in co-ordinated colours and lengths, with a lovely scarf.
