Angela Rayner and dancing

Does anyone else agree that Angela Rayner appears to have a huge chip on her shoulder regarding class and that she would be a difficult woman to work with?

Her recent statement stating that she is working class and loves to dance is a prime example. Does she really think that people who come from middle class families don!t enjoy to dance?

Perhaps it's because some (judgemental and stereotypical) people think that lower class people won't have gone to dance lessons or done anything cultural as a child. Or they WANT that to be the case

I remember one time I admitted to a mutual friend that I'd had ballet and tap classes as a child (we weren't even WC) but some woman who was competitive and used to try and one up me was upset and horrified . It really suprised me with how she got SO upset because she'd only had ballet lessons. People can be really insecure sometimes. Life is not a competition and I refuse to compete or engage in silly one upmanship but if I answer a question truthfully then I'm not responsible for someone else acting out because they can't handle the truth.

Why shouldnt AR have had dance lessons? Why can't she talk about it without people being upset? It's silly.

This whole thing is unbelievable! She was on holiday, looked as though she was enjoying herself - and was smartly dressed! Goodness knows what the headlines would have been if she'd been wearing a boob tube with bits of flab spilling out and had been obviously drunk. As far as I know, she paid for the holiday herself and wasn't mixing with Russian diplomats!

Is certain media outlets that keep pushing the working class thing and referring to anything ‘like dancing in Ibiza’ that will fuel a distrust of AR, portraying her as ‘a bit too common for the house of commons’.
I remember how good she was in opposition, tearing strips off the Oxbridge lot without even pausing to draw breath. And have no doubt she will prove herself in government. A young Barbara Castle if ever I saw one.

I expect she will put a tax on dancing, now. smile

Well now the OP knows if anyone else agrees with her or not. It was a daft criticism of AR but the Does she really think that people who come from middle class families don!t enjoy to dance? did make me laugh out loud.

😂😂😂😂😂

Yes, leave her alone FGS. I'm sick and tired of all the bullying going on around Angela. I'm working class. I still love to dance and do. I have danced on many a table in my young days. I have often been told I'm elegant and graceful (not necessarily on the dance floor). I have been a cleaner, a property sales agent. A school dinner lady. I have friends from 'all classes'. Who cares.
The only thing that matters is that she does the job. Go Angela....

For crying out loud another thread about poor Angela
NO she has no chip she is just honest about her background and her start in life
We ve had two other winging nasty threads about this ooor woman for crying out loud leave her alone

Totally agree. Surely there are GNs who have started from humble beginnings and have made to the top of their careers.
Would the posters who pick on Angela Raynor be also picking on fellow GNs?

BlueBelle Thu 05-Sept-24 15:01:28

Lilyofthevally she isn’t shouting it from the rooftops it’s threads like this that make it seem that way
Leave her alone for crying out loud

I expect if she chose not to speak about her upbringing, that would be "wrong" too.

Visgir1 Thu 05-Sept-24 14:42:44

So she said she was Working class.
She was, not now the Rt Hon lady.

Maggiemaybe Thu 05-Sept-24 14:36:50

Of course she hasn’t got a chip on her shoulder. She talks about her background when she’s asked about it (so frequently). Naturally she’s proud, and rightly so, of what she’s achieved. Very few people can claim to have climbed so high from her starting point.

I hope to goodness that this is the end of the carping, whining and wingeing about Angela Rayner and that the posters who obviously think its a great giggle to report things about her will find something more useful to do.
They remind me of young teenage pupils, ganging up on an outsider. Let's hope this is the end of their nastiness.

Well said

Grannybags Thu 05-Sept-24 14:24:37

Blimey not this again. Why can't people just leave her alone?

AGAA4 Thu 05-Sept-24 14:21:18

Angela Rayner is getting on with her job. Why all the bitchiness? Same old boring comments.

I had not realised that there was another thread about Angela Rayner. I have not met her so neither like or dislike the woman. Good for anyone to be proud of their roots, colour or gender! It is just annoying when they feel it has to be shouted from the rooftops at every possibly opportunity, So boring!!

She isn't shouting it, social and main stream media is. Now you have joined in.

I do agree with you but the silly woman should never have said “Tory scum”.

Working class, middle class, upper class😱.
Why on earth do we have to be defined by class?
I have a friend who always refers to her working class background, I do not care what anyone’s beginnings were, it’s the here and now that matters.

The most important thing we can provide in this country is a good education system, this will create social mobility.
