Is Disney children only, are you a Disney loving adult?

Not Disney (although I thought it was) but I watched A Dog of Flanders’s on utube last night because of this thread. My mum had taken me to see it when I was a child so I assumed it was a Disney film. Even with having to put up with an advert every few minutes I loved it. Going to watch Swiss Family Robinson next which I’m pretty sure is Disney.

I am 82 years old and if our children asked me to go with them to Disney with our grandchildren then I would be off like a shot. I would love to go on some of the rides and sit with a cake and coffee and watch the world go by. I would not be wearing Disney outfits as funny tee shirts are not my thing.

My late husband and I have been previously, before our grandchildren came along, and did go on the rides, King Kong, E.T. Earthquake and many others and we loved it. I have photos of them all.

I am very young at heart so a holiday at Disney would be fantastic.

From being a teenager in the 1950's I spent many an evening and weekend at the local feast (fair) riding on the Shamrock, Speedway, Dodgems, Walzer, Shamrock etc. and many others, having fun is in my blood.

Sadly I can’t get past the outrageous liberties taken with Winnie the Pooh and the Jungle Book and the fact that most children will never know the charm and subtlety of the originals. My loss, I am sure, but the mighty Disney leaves me cold.

Ooh and must mention The Lion King in the West End, also Disney. It is one of the most atmospheric and daring productions in a theatre - and enduring. It is in its 25th year there.

I went to see it with my daughter, who loved the original film, and to my surprise, I was absolutely bowled over by it. What a spectacular production.

I was decidedly underwhelmed by that! Only went to see it because a family friend wanted to go for his birthday. A previous birthday theatre trip we accompanied him to, though, was for War Horse, which really was five-star spectacular.

I loved Disneyland in Florida and you could see by the children’s faces they find it magical.
Have also been to one of the Disney Ice Shows and the costumes and standard of the skaters was fabulous.
None of it comes cheap and I was horrified by the prices of some of the merchandise, which is also part of the Disney Empire.

I often hum the music from The Sorcerers Apprentice when I’m mopping the floor. I remember going to see Fantasia at the cinema when I was in my late teens/early twenties and there was quite a smell of wacky baccy coming from the gallery. I agree about The Jungle Book and Winnie the Poo ( sacrilege!) but I love most of the films, especially the earlier ones. And the nature ones like Yellowstone Cubs. My grandsons were grudgingly watching Frozen with me one Christmas and the younger one started teasing his older brother who was singing along to you. ‘You know all the words’ he said. My son is taking his family to Disneyland Paris next year and I’d love an invite but it isn’t going to happen. I must watch the last Toy Story which I’ve got on dvd but never got round to watching properly.

The very first film (Disney or not) I remember seeing (in the cinema, we had no TV then) was Fantasia. I was only about 4, but my father explained the evolution sequence to me - I always remembered the bit with the fish emerging from the water and its fins turning into legs.
The Night on Bare Mountain bit was scary, though! And I did feel so sorry for the poor old Stegosaurus, killed by T-Rex. 😰

Much later, dds loved a lot of Fantasia - watched over and over, especially the Pastoral Symphony sequence (is that where somebody got the idea for My Little Pony?) and the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, starring Mickey Mouse.

It doesn't appeal to me at all.
Besides which, they have crocodiles, which would put me right off.

I've never quite 'got' the whole Disney thing, although I did enjoy watching some of the films. We never took our children to Disneyland or anything like that. I do have a couple of adult friends who are absolutely obsessed with anything Disney, from wearing Disney clothes to home decor.

It seems quite reasonably priced and presumably most of the stuff will go with the present owners when they move.

It does seem reasonably priced Allira (not that I know the area) but I got the impression that it was all painted murals on the walls! Even the stairway. I could live with the stairway mural if it just wasn't fuschia pink. If it was just all bits that could be removed it wouldn't worry me at all.

This reminded me of a colleague I worked with some year's ago.
Very formal and professional. I'd agreed to drop a card/gift off for her as she was recovering from surgery. She invited me in and walking into her living room was like walking into a Disney showroom.... ornaments, picture's, cushions/throws. She had a huge picture above the fireplace of herself complete with a Minnie Mouse headband cuddling Mickey .

Did she live in Rhyl, Dee1012?
I've seen homes in magazines where people were obsessed with royalty and there are pictures and memorabilia everywhere.

Our daughters and their children love Disney world, by default we love DW as well. Florida is lovely November through March, while too hot otherwise, imo.

Efteling Theme Park, Netherlands, looks lovely.

Don’t fancy the theme parks at all, but my very serious BIL apparently was moved to tears by his visit to Disneyworld 😳
I hated cartoons as a child, although I didn’t mind the early Disney films.
It’s all too bright, tacky and obvious to me. Now there is a theme park in the Netherlands I do fancy based on a children’s book illustrator.

D1 recently took GS and GD to Disneyland Paris for a long weekend while GS2 was on his school trip - cycling from Copenhagen to Berlin! I know - and they had a great time. Staying on site in one of the Disney hotels they got an hour’s access to the park before the public were admitted, so they got up early, had an hour or so, then back to the hotel to “refuel” before going back to the park. It was the first day of the Olympics - if you remember it simply poured on the Saturday but they could do indoor stuff, have a swim and eventually settled for getting wet. They made the most of every minute and loved it!

Loved the old movies, Bambi, Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Snow White, but would never go to a theme park. On Disney+ my granddaughter is currently loving Pollyanna and The Parent Trap both with Hayley Mills!

I took my children to Florida nearly 30 years ago, we had a great time, but tbh they enjoyed the hotel pool and the convertible car more. I have a fondness for Winnie the Pooh and have had two Disney watches with him on, that’s the extent of my ‘wearing’ Disney,
