Gloriously sunny day in the south west of Scotland - possibly the best day of the entire summer! Another sunny day forecast for tomorrow. The sun is very welcome as we have had the wettest summer in years. Weirdly my magnolia tree is in full bloom again which is a bit odd in September.

Very warm day here too but it has been autumnal for a week or so. We have had mists in the morning and it has been quite chilly early in the day.

I was sincerely hoping for an Indian summer and all the forecasts suggested that. However, autumn has arrived with a bump (not that summer was anything to write home about). It's cold, wet and miserable and the leaves are falling at a rate of knots. I hate it, it just means an even longer winter.

Rekarie You must live well to the north. I understand that parts of Scotland had their hottest day of the year.

Where I am the temperature has dropped below 20 degrees during the day for the first time for some months and the darkness caused by thick cloud cover and the rain have made it feel positively like November.

Spent a happy day picking up the silver birch leaves that have fallen on to my pebble garden, just the hundred million or so left to go!

We have quite a few fallen oak leaves on our lawn.

I think you’re right Monica, the misty, cool mornings of autumn are here, the migrating birds are leaving early, and the leaves are turning. I was away last week, and when I got home there were cobwebs all over my house too, so the spiders are also looking for winter homes (not happy about that).

I've been sitting in the garden today, 27 degrees! Tropical compared to the weather we've had recently.

Just a one day wonder though, according to the weather forecast.

We live in South Hampshire, a year ago today it was 30, today 16, the incessant rain and wind means the leaves are fluttering down everywhere, it’s dull and cool,

We are fortunate to live in a well tree-ed part of the country and over the last week we have seen so many trees that are already turning brown and yellow. Drivinbg around the countryside has a real Autumn tint.

I cannot remember when I remember seeing the trees change colour so early. In recent years the trees do not seem to even begin change colour until October.
