Sorry if there’s already a thread, but what does everyone think of the new statues of the late HRHs ??

Nothing like them, especially the Queen who appears to be sporting someone else’s face.
What a waste of money. Why not do what they did for Diana when they opened a water feature that can be used by children in Hyde Park. Perhaps a school for horse riding for disabled or disadvantaged children in both their names.

vintage1950 Thu 12-Sept-24 13:46:19

Awful. Doesn't look like either of them. Statues of people who've recently died never look right.

Nurseundercover Thu 12-Sept-24 13:44:10

I think those who commissioned this, should ask for a full refund.

EEJit Thu 12-Sept-24 13:43:56

They are terrible. Whoever paid for them should ask for thier money back.

Melt them down and have another go

missdeke Thu 12-Sept-24 13:36:01

Absolutely awful, they look like they are made by kids out of plasticine. What passes for art these days is just beyond belief. Whoever signed this off must have had their eyes shut at the time.

SillyNanny321 Thu 12-Sept-24 13:28:34

Terrible, nothing like them! Surely looked at pictures of them first?

Cazza1953 Thu 12-Sept-24 13:14:52

Awful! Doesn’t look like them.

heavenlyheath Thu 12-Sept-24 13:12:24

I live in Northern Ireland and I totally agree the statues are not at all like the late Queen and Prince Phillip drradful

Boz Thu 12-Sept-24 12:49:56

Fancy being remembered for wearing a dull old body warmer and a headscarf.
Insulting imo.

Mollygo Thu 12-Sept-24 12:48:59

if I was the artist hoping to get more work, I wouldn’t want my name put next to those poor representations.

Knittypamela Thu 12-Sept-24 12:43:57

They are dreadful. I was in Antrim this morning but forgot to go and look at them!

Allira Thu 12-Sept-24 12:40:56

The photo of the statue didn't post (not surprisingly).

Someone is telling us something!

Allira Thu 12-Sept-24 12:39:18

🤔 well, it looks like someone but I'm not sure who!!

winterwhite Thu 12-Sept-24 12:31:09

Agree it's obvious who they are and that Prince Philip's stance is right but overall they are frightful and not needed. Or rather if a statue of the late queen was felt necessary it should not have been in wellington boots.

dalrymple23 Thu 12-Sept-24 12:27:01

Atrocious. Did the commissioners not review the artist's previous works? What struck me as odd was that she was wearing wellingtons and carrying a handbag. An unlikely scenario. There was a comment in the paper today that the buttons were in the wrong direction.

I am not sure that corgis laugh (could be wrong). I thought that the only time they had their mouths open was when a bite was about to be forthcoming!

It is a nicely executed sculpture but bears no resemblance to the subjects. The same as the Princess Di one. She was tall and slender - why was she made to look frumpy with tree trunk legs?

Damdee Thu 12-Sept-24 12:14:22

I don't think they are that bad. Even without the corgis it is obvious who they are.

JudyBloom Thu 12-Sept-24 12:11:34

Awful, no resemblance whatsover. What a waste of time and money.

Goodness. I thought the one of Princess Diana was pretty dire but these are dreadful.

What a shame that our longest reigning monarch, and her "one of a kind" husband, globally respected and admired, are going to be immortalised in such an unflattering way.

Your comment really hits the nail on the head. I wish the sculptor had chosen someone else to sculpt, someone not as loved and admired as the Queen and Prince Philip. These statues are almost caricatures.

I have just read that some people think the Queen's statue makes her look like Mrs Doubtfire.

I so agree! This is a dreadful statue. Criminal considering how much our late Queen was loved. I am sorry for the sculptor, who must be feeling dreadful after seeing the responses, but these statues should not have been passed as acceptable.

Jaxjacky Thu 12-Sept-24 12:03:26

I think both statues are an embarrassment

The Queen was HM not HRH

Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? I see you have a second message criticising a post by the same person. Do you get pleasure out of making people feel small? Too much criticism and people will be scared to post at all for fear of being ridiculed.
Perhaps you should ignore these things even though they annoy you.

knspol Thu 12-Sept-24 11:49:58

Didn't even notice Phil's statue was too taken aback by the one of the late Queen, dreadful!

Mt61 Thu 12-Sept-24 11:43:51

Feel for the sculptor, he’s probably put his heart & soul into the project- but no nothing like the Queen

Vintagejazz Wed 11-Sept-24 21:25:33

Looks like they just stuck a headscarf on any old statue and said it was the queen.

Galaxy Wed 11-Sept-24 18:07:33

In agreement.
