Sorry if there’s already a thread, but what does everyone think of the new statues of the late HRHs ??

Atrocious. Did the commissioners not review the artist's previous works? What struck me as odd was that she was wearing wellingtons and carrying a handbag. An unlikely scenario. There was a comment in the paper today that the buttons were in the wrong direction.

I am not sure that corgis laugh (could be wrong). I thought that the only time they had their mouths open was when a bite was about to be forthcoming!

It is a nicely executed sculpture but bears no resemblance to the subjects. The same as the Princess Di one. She was tall and slender - why was she made to look frumpy with tree trunk legs?

Agree it's obvious who they are and that Prince Philip's stance is right but overall they are frightful and not needed. Or rather if a statue of the late queen was felt necessary it should not have been in wellington boots.

Allira Thu 12-Sept-24 12:39:18

🤔 well, it looks like someone but I'm not sure who!!

Allira Thu 12-Sept-24 12:40:56

The photo of the statue didn't post (not surprisingly).

Someone is telling us something!

Knittypamela Thu 12-Sept-24 12:43:57

They are dreadful. I was in Antrim this morning but forgot to go and look at them!

Mollygo Thu 12-Sept-24 12:48:59

if I was the artist hoping to get more work, I wouldn’t want my name put next to those poor representations.

Boz Thu 12-Sept-24 12:49:56

Fancy being remembered for wearing a dull old body warmer and a headscarf.
Insulting imo.

heavenlyheath Thu 12-Sept-24 13:12:24

I live in Northern Ireland and I totally agree the statues are not at all like the late Queen and Prince Phillip drradful

Cazza1953 Thu 12-Sept-24 13:14:52

Awful! Doesn’t look like them.

SillyNanny321 Thu 12-Sept-24 13:28:34

Terrible, nothing like them! Surely looked at pictures of them first?

missdeke Thu 12-Sept-24 13:36:01

Absolutely awful, they look like they are made by kids out of plasticine. What passes for art these days is just beyond belief. Whoever signed this off must have had their eyes shut at the time.

EEJit Thu 12-Sept-24 13:43:56

They are terrible. Whoever paid for them should ask for thier money back.

Melt them down and have another go

Nurseundercover Thu 12-Sept-24 13:44:10

I think those who commissioned this, should ask for a full refund.

vintage1950 Thu 12-Sept-24 13:46:19

Awful. Doesn't look like either of them. Statues of people who've recently died never look right.

Babs03 Thu 12-Sept-24 13:48:18

Nothing like them, especially the Queen who appears to be sporting someone else’s face.
What a waste of money. Why not do what they did for Diana when they opened a water feature that can be used by children in Hyde Park. Perhaps a school for horse riding for disabled or disadvantaged children in both their names.

MaizieD Thu 12-Sept-24 14:05:34

I'm in agreement with most posters. The statues are very poor. Not only doesn't HM look like herself but the corgi between her and Philip looks more like a pig than a corgi...

especially the Queen who appears to be sporting someone else’s face. Nice one Babs03 🤣🤣🤣

grandtanteJE65 Thu 12-Sept-24 14:05:42

Oh dear, neither statute looks like either the late Queen or Prince Phillip at any time I remember, and having been born three months before the death of King George VI that is a gey long time.

How anyone could possibly have thought these statutes were lifelike, I do not know, and why portray the Queen wearing that ghastly head-scarf she and Princess Margaret made so fashionable amongst my mother's generation?

It is no excuse that the Queen liked dressing like a frumpish headmistress, because she did, usually when at Balmoral manage to look smart occasionally.

Allira Thu 12-Sept-24 14:16:46

especially the Queen who appears to be sporting someone else’s face.

Yes, someone well-known but I'm trying to rack my brains to think who.

Answers on a postcard please!

Lizzie44 Thu 12-Sept-24 15:08:09

The Queen's head and scarf remind me of my dear old Mum when she had just come out of the hairdresser after getting her perm done.

Ziggy62 Thu 12-Sept-24 15:09:17

I live in Northern Ireland and when I saw pics posted on Facebook this morning I thought it was some of unkind joke
There is also a mural in portadown where the Queen looks more like Dame Edna

Ziggy62 Thu 12-Sept-24 15:16:10

Not sure why it's showing 3 times, sorry

BlueBelle Thu 12-Sept-24 15:59:11

First look I thought she had a peak cap on under the headscarf The woman’s upper arms are way too short for normal peoples arms I still think it looks like ‘Mrs Brown’ when she upps her bosom She looks manly like Mrs Brown because she has her legs apart standing in a male sort of pose
I hope the artist has got broad shoulders like the queen seems to have, because he is in for a lot of criticism I think

BlueBelle Thu 12-Sept-24 16:00:55

Oh my word is that portrait done by the same artist Ziggy ?if so he needs to stick to landscapes methinks
It s awful

Oreo Thu 12-Sept-24 16:04:46

BlueBelle 🤣

Indigo8 Thu 12-Sept-24 16:50:44

Well, we all seem to be in agreement on GN about this.
