No success at the House of Lords so here's a suggestion.
The only thing they don't say is whether to buy a multipack or what flavour,

Seems a strange idea for the Labour party, having finally achieved election success, to alienate a huge subset of UK pensioners, AND of them quite a chunk of their relatives too.

Bizarre.

I'll be so fat, I'll carry on sinking, and end up 9 feet under.

We live in a 2 bed & have 8 radiators in all. That would take ton of crisp packets which aren't cheap nowadays & add more blubber that I really don't need!

Probably wants all the old dears to gorge on crisp, have stroke with all the salt, or heart attack- problem solved. We won’t have to become a grumbling nation of oldies as we will be six feet under 😩

Just think how much they'll save!
At least £22 billion

Just peeing myself laughing- is this person for real? How many crisps pks are we talking, have you seen the price of a pk of crisps? Not to mention the heart disease, fatty liver, etc heart specialists are going to love him- would it not be better to just buy the proper stuff, surely

The more blubber you acquire, the less heating you need.
It's natural insulation.

Will you all stop! With laughing so much I can't get on with the baking I'm supposed to be doing for tomorrow. The icing is going all over the place. Now wondering if icing is insulating, may just lather myself in it. Will be like plaster when dried and that will keep the heat in surely.

Love this one.

Esmay

ronib -I came out of church recently almost in tears because we are being asked by the diocese to give more .

I know that some of the congregation are well off and some really aren't .

They all sat that with glazed expressions on their faces as if they were shell shocked .

I visit three elderly ladies and it's not fun .
I go to see if they are OK , but am often met with aggression .
One of them loves to see me .

I'm about to take on another one as my friend can't cope .

But we are failing our old folk .

Are you in the UK Esmay?

Esmay I am also worried about hypothermia and the elderly. Since the government seems not to have expressed any interest or concerns on the this, I am wondering if yet another communication to my mp would be effective? Still waiting for a response to first email….

Esmay Fri 13-Sept-24 19:58:54

Thanks Ilovedogs22 - it's why I'm really concerned about the plight of elderly people .
Last year, one of my friends was rushed into hospital with hypothermia .
She's younger than me , works three jobs and is fit .

I'd like to stuff the crisp packets through the letterbox at 10 Downing street - humph! Sounds like a fire hazard to me anyway!

I know where I would like to stuff the crisp packets but it wouldn't be the letter box.!!!

Ilovedogs22 Fri 13-Sept-24 19:37:43

Oh Esme, so sorry yo hear about your struggles. ❤🧡💛💚💙

Growing0ldDisgracefully Fri 13-Sept-24 19:18:39

All well and good if you can afford crisps and to turn the oven on in the first place.

However, it might be a good idea to keep the salty side of the crisp packets next to your skin to counteract the ice in our unheated houses. I suspect that knickers made of crisp packets might make embarrassing rustling noises when worn, and are they removable in a hurry for those of use whose bladders react strongly to being cold? (when you gotta go, you gotta go....)
Seriously, just who in the world thinks this is OK to reward well off strike blackmailers at the expense of us old dears?!

Lizzies Fri 13-Sept-24 19:04:50

I’ve just seen a suggestion for insulation on windows using bubble wrap. You cut it to the size of the window, wet the window and then stick the bubble wrap to it, bubble side to the window. Apparently the larger variety looks artistic and you can see through it, sort of. It’s also the best for insulation purposes. It did advise not to put it on a window that you really need to see through.

Your sharing, caring politicians....not. The heating will be full blast in Downing Street this winter!

MissAdventure Fri 13-Sept-24 16:35:55

Shelves above the radiators used to be advised.
Could you make a crisp packet shelf for each?

Maybe save the salt, though, in case the carpets get frosty.

Love it! Ha Ha Ha!

The salts the best part! wink

I hope so, I'm having to eat all these crisps!

Wash the salt off first!
No need to heat the water.
