Just received my voting card for postal voting in October

The Postal Poll card just says the election of councillors. I also had a paper pushed through with a massive red, Vote Labour on the front of it.

I suppose it is to vote for the councillor I want to run the ward I am in.

@ NannyJan53.........Regarding giving Labour the courtesy of time to start to put things right then I don't suppose we have a choice in the matter for the next five years.

I am not going to worry about something that I have no control over.

It should make it clear on the postal voting form which election it's for. The paper with the "massive red Vote Labour on the front" is what normally happens in any election, local, council or otherwise. You may get others from other parties.

Having said that I'm not sure what point your post is making ... surely you've voted before, had election bumf before, which will make it clear which type of election it is.

Local elections are for Local issues, they have no effect on Government planning or events.
My Son is a Councillor and he's constantly telling folk they can not influence Government, but can try sort out local issues.
I'm surprised there is Elections, as most of these took place in May.

The last Labour government took about 1/3 of the pension we should be receiving now.
Robbing pensioners seems to be a government strategy whoever is in power because we can’t do anything about it.

Cleverly currently has no power though. Now to be fair I think Britain is overestimating its own power at the moment, the decision making rests with America rather than thank god with David Lammy. I again have my own views on Biden and the way the Democrats have behaved with regard to his capability, but in my view he has been good on the Istael/Palestine conflict, I know many would disagree though.

I have many concerns around some of the social/cultural issues in America,however I find it interesting that in the face of international conflict over the last year, my first reaction has been thank God America is there. Biden is right to say no to Starmer re Ukraine.

The Pensions Act, equalising State Pension age, was introduced by John Major's Government, as it was seen to be unfair to men. Tony Blair's Government increased the age up to 68 in stages.

During the Blair and Brown years, the then Government decided that a state pension age fixed at 65 was no longer affordable or sustainable. The Pensions Act 2007 introduced an increase in state pension age to ages 66, 67 and 68.

I do think it would have been fairer (but more costly) to equalise SP age at 63.
I agree the implementation of all this was unfair on those women in that small group.

However, I still would treat a local election differently and vote for the person.

I doubt that many of us will be voting again just yet anyway.

We have been inundated with leaflets from councillors in our local election from all parties.

All so far, 1. live locally so are keen to do things for our area
2. can be seen walking their dog
3. will do x, y and z if we vote them in, and
4. are willing to answer any queries we might have, just use the email address below.

Since the only candidate who has bothered to answer my email questions is the LibDem candidate, does that mean he’s the only truthful one?

In local elections I would vote for the person, not the party.

We had a Lib Dem County Councillor here for a while, he was absolutely useless and, frankly, did not seem very aware of local issues nor was he interested.

Now we have a Conservative Councillor after a slight boundary change and he is proactive, interested and keeps us up to date with local affairs. He always seems willing to help if anyone has a problem too.
I'd vote for him if he stands again.

No decision has been reached yet but it's worth noting it's a cross party issue.

I am certainly not giving up on Labour just yet. They have only been in power a few weeks!

People seem to have very short memories regarding the mess the Tories left behind. Think we need to give Labour the courtesy of time.

At least they didn't put some pensioners into poverty and left to freeze in the winter.

None here yet - maybe we don’t have council elections any time soon.

What did (very wryly) amuse me very recently, was a leaflet from our LD MP, basically saying that the gratifying increase in numbers of LD MPs, was down to their hard work.

This constituency has always been a toss-up between Con/LD, Labour come nowhere - though for the last two general elections votes have been a lot less of a toss-up, certainly nothing like the recount needed not so long ago.

I suspect that much of the LDs’ recent success had rather less to do with their hard work, though I’m sure they did plenty of that, but was more down to people who couldn’t bring themselves to vote Tory, even if they had in the past - but didn’t want to vote Labour either - or (like here) knew it’d be a wasted vote if they did.

Only a very small percentage 33.7 %, according to Statista, of the population voted for this awful shower. I wonder if the Cons had won again with such small numbers but huge amount of seats,Labour would have been calling for a change from FPP ??

A much smaller percentage voted Tory though, 22.7%, a massive reduction since 2019, so that wasn’t ever going to happen. If Labour do lose seats at the council elections, it’s more likely to be to the Lib Dem’s and the Greens as things stand at the moment. I don’t think that would be a bad thing, more diversity of local councillors is healthy in terms of decision making processes.

Went to council about pension and bus pass when I was 60.told it had gone up to 62.2 years later told 64.Finally got them at 66!big bopper is right stop throwing money at immigrants!

I do not worry about anything I cannot change. Labour won the general election so I will live with that, I just wish Starmer wasn't targeting the pensioners rather than the immigrants who get everything for free once they set foot on our soil.

Anyway time will tell, I just hope I live long enough to see what happens.

it could be a local council by-election. They seem to go on at any time during the year. As would a by -election for a vacant seat in Parliament. National local council elections are usually in May.

I'm don't like to frustrate the OP's hopes, but whatever it is, Starmer won't be going anywhere.
