A post this morning by Infoman, has prompted me to start this thread.
The first LP I purchased was, Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits, my first single, The most Beautiful Girl in the World, by Charlie Rich.
Working over the summer as a student in the Knorr factory, enabled me to buy my first record player.
I'm getting all nostalgic! šŸ˜‰

I loved that song and I was also about twelve!

The first single I bought was Black Night by Deep Purple. I was a wee rocker! I can't remember the first album I bought. The first one I listened to was Alice Cooper in first year so I would have been about 12. A new friend played it at her house and I was very impressed.

Mine was Travellin' Light by Cliff Richard, think I was about twelve.

I didn't like rock, but I did like that.

DH and his brother painted their bedroom walls purple!

Sibelius 5th Symphony & Karelia Suite. I think it was played by the Halle Orchestra which I'd heard perform both on a school trip to Manchester.

I Feel Fine by The Beatles, I bought it in the NAAFI in Berlin in 1964 aged 13.

The first two singles I bought were ā€œlong haired lover from Liverpoolā€ Jimmy Osmond, and ā€œKnock three timesā€ by Dawn

The first LP was The Beach Boys greatest hits. I think it was about 35 shillings to buy. I remember getting off the bus stop one stage earlier and walking to save the money up.

My first singles were all by the Monkees (aged 10 I was in love with Davy Jones). First LP was A Question of Balance by the Moody Blues

NannyJan53 Thu 19-Sept-24 09:25:12

First single Black is Black by Los Bravos. First album The Monkees. Although it was a Christmas present I think.

Blinko Thu 19-Sept-24 09:27:08

An LP, The Buddy Holly Story, 28/6d with my first weeks wages.

kittylester Thu 19-Sept-24 09:37:10

First single was 54321 by Manfred Mann and first LP was West Side Story.

My first single was Concrete and Clay by Unit 4 + 2. I can’t remember buying any LPs back in the day, but when I was at college my flatmate had Simon and Garfunkel’s Greatest Hits. It was the only album we had and I can still remember every word of every song. Though for some reason it always skipped the word ā€œwhoresā€ in The Boxer!

Kate1949 Thu 19-Sept-24 09:51:02

First LP, Please Please Me by The Beatles. First single, probably Love Me Do but I remember buying Just One Look by The Hollies quite early on.

Katek Thu 19-Sept-24 09:54:16

First single was Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan - with Subterranean Homesick Blues as the B side. Think album would most likely have been Beatles For Sale.

Tuaim Thu 19-Sept-24 09:58:26

It would have to be the theme to The Virginian by Percy Faith. I was madly in love with James Drury!
