Slippers - am I old now? (light hearted sort of).

I have just sent for my first pair of proper slippers (Skechers in M& S) not my usual flip flop type or mostly bare feet (old hippie). Does this mean I am an oldie now?

MissInterpreted never had those rules about shoes off when growing up.
Big massive doormat at the front door and tiled hall way.
Back passage if you were “been to the park/it’s snowed/ mucky dog” kind of dirty”

Did anyone ever wear wooden scholls?… or those fluffy kitten heal mules? And with a negligee too.

Yes, we had a front tiled 'vestibule' where we had to leave our shoes, or at the back door if we came in that way. But we certainly weren't allowed to wear them in the actual rooms inside - it was the same with our children and now our GS.

Are you called kitty because of your love if Animal print prrr😺

I've just been talking to DH about buying a new pair of winter slippers. The pair I'm wearing at present aren't very warm and I usually wear them during the warmer months.
I used to like sketchers slippers but I kept tripping up when wearing my last pair. I like a full slipper rather than mules.

I don’t remember ever wearing slippers. Bare feet all the way, though I’ll put a pair of thick socks on if it’s really cold, in that in-between period (now) before the heating’s properly on for the season. I used to run to the corner shop in my bare feet back in the day, and still go out in the garden barefoot if it’s not wet.

Babs03 Thu 26-Sept-24 18:42:27

When my feet get cold I get cramp in my toes, not sure if I am a freak or if other get this, anyway I digress. I wear really boring slippers that are very worn but really comfy, not a make just got them off the market. Have always worn slippers no matter what age I was, though some were more interesting.

Redhead56 Thu 26-Sept-24 18:47:42

I forgot to mention I also have Christmas slippers they are soft ankle booties too.

My new ones!

I can't wear backless slippers, but I love them!

MissAdventure Thu 26-Sept-24 19:25:44

I've always loved slippers, the uglier the better.

It's one of lifes joys, putting something comfy on your feet.

I never go barefoot, in case of spiders.

Jane43 Thu 26-Sept-24 19:33:24

I was a fan of flip flops and bare feet but turning 80 has forced me to choose warmer footwear in the house. I can recommend Vionic slippers as they have arch support. I have also had to start wearing bed socks because I can’t sleep if my feet are cold.

I think I’m worse than anyone. I wear socks with Birkenstock sandals. Dislike slippers because my feet get too hot, and yes I do get cramp in my toes.

LaCrepescule Thu 26-Sept-24 19:44:19

Ooh they’re lovely kittylester! Where did you get them? Simply must have a pair. I’ve lived in crocs all summer and they’re like plastic slippers.

LaCrepescule Thu 26-Sept-24 19:46:41

Socks with Birkenstocks and Crocs are very trendy. I have this from a reliable source, my very stylish 30 something daughter 😊

I never go barefoot because diabetics are told that they shouldn't, in case they damage their feet and don't feel it.

I've been wearing slippers like these for years. I always have a number of pairs in different colours and states of delapidation, but am always open to change.

I think they're moshulu. I've just found something to put on my Christmas list.

kittylester Thu 26-Sept-24 20:44:14

They are Moshulu.

I had a pair of the boots but decided to go mad and get backless one.

MissAdventure Thu 26-Sept-24 20:47:29

Mine, which are on their last legs, if you'll pardon the pun.

NotAGran55 Thu 26-Sept-24 21:41:52

I don’t wear slippers, but if I did it would be these crocs.

Those are my slippers MissAdventure. I'm wearing them as I type!

MissAdventure Thu 26-Sept-24 21:59:18

Oh! They're quite comfy, aren't they?
Mine are getting a bit loose now.

My feet swell and stretch them, then they're a bit flappy when I next put them on.

GrannyIvy Thu 26-Sept-24 22:02:16

I like the Next ballet slippers. Only wear in winter as bare feet in summer months.

MissAdventure Thu 26-Sept-24 22:06:23

I must say, the one time I treated myself to an "expensive" (for me) pair of slippers, I was very disappointed in them.
I threw them out just this week, in disgust.

I had those exact ones, but in the beige! I've literally just today 'retired' my old leopardprint ones, which had been faithful servants for several years, and treated myself to a lovely new pair of purple boot slippers.

growstuff Fri 27-Sept-24 08:07:56

I'm afraid my slippers never last for years because I wear them all the time in the house. I keep the latest retired ones by the back door to slip on when I go to the bins.

I wouldn't be seen dead wearing pink, fluffy or leopard print outside the house, so it's nice to have a bit of fun when few people can see me.

MissInterpreted Fri 27-Sept-24 08:26:07

I wear mine all the time in the house too. I practically live in them - but I do wear them until they are literally falling apart!

Maggiemaybe Fri 27-Sept-24 09:05:32

When I turned 60 I remember flyers arriving with the birthday cards offering me all sorts of treats - walking aids, hearing tests, even a free weekend stay at a local care home. And one illustrated by a drawing of an old biddy hurtling head first down a flight of stairs, advertising a local slipper exchange, where you could take in a battered old pair and get a new one for free. I doubt they’d be Mahabis though.
