I have just sent for my first pair of proper slippers (Skechers in M& S) not my usual flip flop type or mostly bare feet (old hippie). Does this mean I am an oldie now?

Costco furry slip on very comfy.

Always worn slippers since a kid. I have had just about every kind you can think of in furry mules. I have just brought out one of the pairs of last years Xmas Presents with furry bobbles on them . The cat likes them so much that only the left foot still has the bobbles on. Also have a pair of sheepskins - NDNs Xmas pressie last year - looking forward to wearing them when it turn really cold. Also have woolly furlined crocs by the back door for the quick dashes out to the garden or bin. grin Never too old for slippers OP!!

I am currently looking for my first pair as an adult. Unfortunately I have to take beta blockers and a side effect is very cold hands and feet. Looking for something easy to slip on and off but safe as I am up and down stairs and some of the downstairs floors are tiled, preferably available in half sizes. Any recommendations?

Sketchers have a lovely range, I wear some with a knitted cuff that have thick soles like their outdoor shoes, therefore suitable for outdoor bin work etc. I have even been known to pop to Tesco for a couple of items in them. They are beautifully warm and cosy. The slip ons without a back are nice but so bad for your feet I am told by my podiatrist as you have to grab with your toes therefore bending them, which is supposedly bad for them.

What an excellent idea!

I agree, MissA (re the slipper exchange). I’ve just googled and they’re up and running in lots of areas.

No good to me though as I prefer to go barefoot. Now if I could swap my feet for a younger pair, that’d be useful.

I love slippers and it would be my absolute joy to wear animal print or super bright colours but I buy Vionic as recommended by my podiatrist. They are sturdy, warm, comfortable and long lasting, but a tad on the boring side. I have troublesome bunions and was told to always support the arch of my foot and not to slop around in unstructured slippers or mules.

Love the moccasin ones from M&S but the sketcher ones are lovely.🥰

I wear whatever is at hand or should that be foot lol.
In summer I wear sliders and in winter I wear flat fur lined mules or Ugg type boots all with hard soles for popping in and out doors without changing into shoes.

I saw some cosy looking microwaveavable heated slippers in Robert Dyas today. Unfortunately I didn't take note of the make.

I was given some microwavable slippers but they contained wheat grains which became very lumpy underfoot so they were not comfortable to wear. I don't know what happened to them as I only wore them once - lovely and warm though!
I won some lovely furry mule style slippers with thich heavy soles but was afraid they wouldn't be safe on stairs so gave them to my DD.
The slippers I wear are suede moccassins with a warm lining and rubber soles so I can wear them outside when dealing with the bins etc. I bought them when the local discount shoe warehouse was closing down for a couple of quid. They are pretty old now but still going strong. I wear them all the time indoors, with socks in winter and without in summer. I can't go barefoot now as I'm diabetic.
As a teenager I used to lesve my shoes at a friend's house and go out barefoot wearing full length skirts - quite the hippy! I'd collect my shoes on the way home and my mother never knew. I remember walking round Lancaster barefoot in the pouring rain back then too while on a trip with school friends!

I’ve worn slippers for ever!! In summer I tend to wear flip flops. Just recently I’ve been working from home and need to speak to people who come to me for advice. I’ve found wearing white trainer socks to be perfect. They cover my ugly toes, feel comfortable and look good with anything; trousers, dresses, skirts.

Like several on here I have worn slippers all my life, shoes off as soon as you step through the door.
I have several pairs including sheepskin ones and I am currently wearing a pair of Moshulu spotty mules which are several years old and very comfortable. I do need slippers to be supportive due to one ankle being full of metal pins and plates and both having arthritis 🙄
I love my slippers 😊

I always wear inside stretch shoes or well fitting slippers. I am keeping my celtic sheepskins for very cold weather, they have lasted years and I wash them at the end of winter

I have sketchers by my bed, very safe up and down stairs and nice to slip on. I got rid of my wool bedside rug, it did nothing for me apart from gathering fluff. Energy flow looks a lot better without the rug and the sketchers work well

I have been slippers for years and I love them smile

Lovetopaint037 Sat 28-Sept-24 09:34:16

I love slippers. Always had them. When I was at work I would arrive home and say “I can’t think until I have my slippers on”.Also hard floors which we have downstairs demand a pair.It looks considerate if visiting people with carpet to take a pair.

I love my sheepskin house boots (from Celtic) which are my slippers when it’s not actual summer - I have them on now.

They’re not cheap but I’ve had these for several years now, they’re machine washable, and when the inner soles were starting to feel worn and a bit lumpy last year, I bought new insoles, also from Celtic, £15, and they feel like new again.

Witzend I could have written this. I have exactly the same ones. Three years old now so not expensive really. They are wonderful and I wear them for about 8 months of the year.

Another thing, unlike most actual slippers, you can wear them outside. The soles are just lighter than for their outdoor boots. And not just for e.g. putting the bins out - I’ve certainly worn mine for nipping up the road to the post.

Just found an article "Is leopard print the new black?"

Was brought up to wear slippers in the house . Still wearing them and take them with me when visiting friends and relatives as I won't wear my shoes in people's houses . Plus I don't allow shoes past my hall . Workmen always put on covers and visitors already know my no shoes policy.

When I sold my old house I had a no shoes in the house . Viewers had to leave them in the porch. My estate agent told viewers before they came.

NotSpaghetti Sat 28-Sept-24 10:00:00

BigBertha1 if you want slippers then have them.
You may find (like me) that you don't wear them as much as you think you will though.
I have some great slippers but they are mostly too hot -as I'm a barefoot person too.
Nice to have though.
Just enjoy them.

Some Bet Lynch earrings would complete the look!

Here you go, Witzend

When my (Woolovers) sheepskin slippers died, I resorted to cheap moccasins which have lasted a year and now need replacing, but my favourite footwear for an evening in front of the TV, is a pair of faux fur slipper-boots, black with multi coloured spots, which I found in a Joules on-line sale a couple of years ago. My feet couldn't possibly feel cold in those.

Musicgirl Sat 28-Sept-24 12:01:12

@Witzend, Bet Lynch was my first thought, too, immediately followed by Pat Butcher of EastEnders fame. This is why I would never wear leopard print, whether it is fashionable or not.

Trust me - everyone wants to be old enough to wear slippers. All the time. 😆

I come home and fling my bra and kick off my shoes and get into what ever seasonal slipper I’m wearing around the house before I feed my cat. She knows the ritual and is patient for her main meal.

There’s nothing like a comfy cozy well made slipper to lounge around in.
