Slippers - am I old now? (light hearted sort of).

I have just sent for my first pair of proper slippers (Skechers in M& S) not my usual flip flop type or mostly bare feet (old hippie). Does this mean I am an oldie now?

What an excellent idea!

I haven’t got any specific plans for “when I get really old”but I’m sincerely hoping that falling down stairs isn’t a feature.

But I might need to buy some fabulous fashionable slippers to negate the “old biddyness” …just in case.😼

Birkenstock’s for me! Not at all “granny” but so comfy. Great for nipping out with the bins etc and you can get ones with a furry lining - I may invest this winter.

kittylester absolutely love yours and leopard print so in, but I love animal print, where did you get them please

I had the tartan ones with zipper and pom pom in my twenties and loved them. My statement piece - so comfy and warm. Now that I'm 74 it's bare feet it crocs !

No, not old, just cold !!
Whn you look at what th youger end wear in th house, slipprs are quite respectable ! Theirs have aniimal heads or huge fluffy mules that they wear to shop, big blanket onesie things.
Wear yous slippers with pride, mine are furry slipper boots, but I do confess that if I have to answer th door, somtimes I kick them off first grin

rocketstop Fri 27-Sept-24 11:57:49

Appalling typing on last message, hands are cold, perhaps I should get slippers for my hands , oh wait, thy're called gloves
grin

I have always worn slippers! Can't bear the feeling of cold floors on bare feet. Maybe I was born old?

They were in the Moshulu sale. I love them, they are so warm.

I used to wear mules but changed to “proper” slippers when we started having baby grandkids here as didn’t feel safe going up and downstairs carrying them. They’re all teens now but I’m used to the warmer ones now so shan’t return to mules.

I do remember my mum and dad buying me some hush puppy bootie type slippers when I was about 4 they had Tinger & Tucker pom- poms on … any one remember them?..
..Aaah😻

Juicylucy Fri 27-Sept-24 12:37:06

I love my comfy slippers I even take them on holiday with me to hot climates.

Granmarderby10 Fri 27-Sept-24 12:39:42

Eddieslass yes I remember developing a fear of those very steep narrow staircases when at S&DILs house looking after the babies.
Had the same staircase in our first house but it never bothered me then oddly!

Jess20 Fri 27-Sept-24 12:48:31

Sheepskin or faux fur boots here. Our floors are freezing

Beckett Fri 27-Sept-24 13:15:20

I am also looking for proper slippers - not the slip on ones - except all the ones I have looked at are in pretty dull colours and either have a bow on them or, even worse, fur around the edge, talk about making someone feel old!!

I love my slippers.Ihave a sheepskin winter pair, and I wear a pair of Birkenstocks slip ones in summer.I change into them when I come in the front door.Hopefully that will keep the carpets clean..

spottybook

My boss bought me a pair of slippers when I retired. I was most insulted especially after working for her for years and covering up for a lot of her misdoings. Should add I retired when I was 61. A bottle of perfume would have been more acceptable or a JL gift voucher.

What a very odd thing for a boss to buy! I would have been very insulted too. What a strange idea for a workplace gift.

Currently got these

You can buy them on amazon a bit cheaper. Warm, supportive, proper sole, washable. I advise getting one size larger than usual if you wear warm socks too.

Just had to chuck my Furry Leopard ones out, aftet Puppy ate them !!
Now looking for a new pair

Musicgirl Fri 27-Sept-24 14:37:29

I have always worn slippers as we don't like outdoor shoes in the house. I like sheepskin mules or moccasins. Nothing ageing about them whatsoever. I will resist the tartan pom pom variety though!

Greciangirl Fri 27-Sept-24 15:03:38

I’ve always worn slip on mule type slippers in the house.
In fact, the first thing I do when I get home is kick shoes of and slippers go on.
I don’t like the thought of dirty shoes on my Carpet either, so even visitors must take their shoes of .

BlueSapphire Fri 27-Sept-24 15:15:43

I love slippers, but they have to be mules and more importantly, have a heel! Cannot bear flat shoes. M&S used to do nice ones but they seem to no longer stock them.

MrsBoot Fri 27-Sept-24 15:46:32

I saw some cosy looking microwaveavable heated slippers in Robert Dyas today. Unfortunately I didn't take note of the make.
