What an actress! From The Prime if Miss Jean Brodie onwards.

Oh No!

Wonderful actress first saw her in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, but she will be remembered for all her roles of late, Lady Grantham to the Lady in the Van. Who says all the best parts go to actresses in their youth. A loss to the acting world.

RIP Dame Maggie

Just seen this.
What a versatile actress she was, and how her career developed throughout her life; always the slightly unexpected.

RosiesMaw2 Fri 27-Sept-24 15:03:16

Another “Oh, no!” moment.
I first saw her back in 1970-ish as Miss Jean Brodie in the film along with Robert Stephens whose voice I adored. They were such a glamorous couple, on and off stage. Did anybody see them in “Much Ado” as Beatrice and Benedick? They could hardly keep, their hands off each other!
I imagine we will all have our favourite Maggie Smith role- from the Dowager Countess of Grantham to Alan Bennett’s Lady in the Van.
Truly one of the greats.

A brilliant actress. So talented. I loved her in The Lady in the Van and Harry Potter too!
What a loss 😔

A good, long life, well led.

Condolences to her loved ones flowers

Calendargirl Fri 27-Sept-24 15:21:42

A true star, who really deserved the title ‘actress’.

Will be sadly missed.

Calendargirl Fri 27-Sept-24 15:24:48

And how beautiful she was in her earlier roles.

You forget how ‘young’ she once was, because she has been acting for so many decades.

merlotgran Fri 27-Sept-24 15:25:01

Such sad news. A great actor who will be missed by us all.

Cherrytree59 Fri 27-Sept-24 15:25:14

Wonderful actress - an end of an era.

Rendella Fri 27-Sept-24 15:34:47

My favourite was when she was in one of Alan Bennett’s monologues. A truly great actress with a truly great script. Bed. Among the Lentils in the Talking Heads series
