Welcome!

Thank you for all your support, especially of late. I greatly appreciate your patience. You are truly the best.

Buffet is open. For those who enjoy a glass of bubbly, there is plenty in the chill cabinet.

Enjoy!

I must away for a wee while. I shall catch up later. flowers

Catterygirl It is lovely to have you back with us lot.

Grannmarie Thank you for your marvellous post. It was a joy to read.

A letter arrived today. Sadly, not regarding the important business of Mr Soop's ongoing surgery to continue removing the number of cancerous growths on his skull, which would be a huge relief for both of us. Neither was it for an appointment for the scan to be carried out in Oban to establish the cause of the shadow on the top of my lung. Instead, I've to go to Paisley hospital later next week to have my remaining breast scanned. I phoned the hospital, hung on for twenty minutes to speak to an adviser (whilst listening to an irritating piece of repetitive music) to be informed that it will involve different tests. I saw the oncologist at the end of the fifth year post mastectomy some months ago. She gave me no indication that I would need to return unless I had concerns. Which I do not. Anyway, we will keep the appointment It will mean a seven hour round road trip. Another day out! smile

Tomorrow I have an appointment with audiology. Both hearing aids to be tested. I've had them for twelve years. A blessing for which I am most grateful.

I need to go to my bed. Before I do...I send every good wish to every Granspal in need of extra tender loving care. Our kitchen has an ever open door. If relaxing in the quiet corner gives you solace, please linger as long as you wish.

Good night and bless you. smile moon

‘Evening All’

A good day here for us. I went to the Harvest Festival performance by Y3 to watch L’il Miss, happily singing along and holding up her ‘R’ sign (spelling ‘Harvest’) in a toe tapping medley. All the children are so cute! Ernest and joyous - it was a pleasure to be so entertained.

Home after taking her to the play park for half an hour. Kids running around like loons in the sunshine. And the ice cream van was there! Lovely sunny weather at 3:30pm what a treat at this time of year eh?

Himself stayed home and made his signature dish of chilli which contains red wine, mushrooms and a real ‘kick’. That’s tomorrow’s tea sorted for us, daughter and son in law and two sets of neighbours - delivery notified for tomorrow and everyone delighted!

I’m just so happy to see my darling man being ‘back to normal’ for now. When life is trundling along without health scares it’s so easy to take such things for granted. I never will again, I know this much.

Jaxjacky Tue 22-Oct-24 17:01:57

Afternoon all, we’ve had rain and patchy showers, dry here, rain two miles away then vica versa.
I hope you jabs go well Grannmarie, with none of the after effects GG13 had, mine is Friday, the flu one from yesterday is painless.
How lovely Yia you can now plan with a lighter heart ☀️
You’re a very patient patient soop.
Well, nose checked in out patients this morning as fine, could have done without the camera up the nose ‘let’s do it without topical anaesthetic, it may hurt’, but job done.
IoM sounds fascinating hulahoop, MrJ visited many years ago.
I’ll be watching the CCTV brook 🤣🤣, have fun.

brook2704 Tue 22-Oct-24 16:40:36

Good afternoon kitchen pals, it’s a bit wet and drizzly here in Inverness
I’m just back from DD2s, it’s half term and I think she’s a bit frazzled with the bickering DGC - anyway we played a couple of games and peace is restored again for a while. I’m off out for a meal this evening so looking forward to that and catching up with my pals….. yes I will behave Jax 🤣
Sounds like a busy morning GG13 you deserve that latte - if you don’t mind me asking what sort of coffee machine do you have please ? - I might be tempted to invest in one !
Pleased you had a good holiday hulahoop - happy memories made
Early days yet Yia but sounds like your DH is making good progress
Love to soop and everyone in the quiet corner ❤️

hulahoop Tue 22-Oct-24 11:44:02

Hopefully no more hospital appointments ,following telephone one yesterday from ortho,s .Dr was stumped as to how my bursitis disappeared following femoral arthraplasty 🤔.We enjoyed our week away in IofMan first proper holiday in a long time .I'm off to craft afternoon so better get sorted .Best wishes to all.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 22-Oct-24 10:06:24

Morning all, an early visit to the kitchen for me.

Siting down with a double shot latte ( I love my coffee machine) have changed the bed, it is washed and now going round in the tumble dryer, second wash swirling away nicely.
Onions now all in jars, labelled complete with Christmas lids and frills.

Back to the grindstone now 🙋‍♀️

Yiayia4 Tue 22-Oct-24 09:39:30

Morning everyone. Its looking dry this morning with watery sunshine, makes a change.

Thinking of you Sue I know exactly how you feel,I hope you get some answers and appointments very soon.

We are trying to pick up our life but of course in a different way.DH still has a catheter. The nurse told him he may need a prostrate operation at some point. He’s coping very well and I’m hoping he will just have medication as another operation would be risky.I had my magic injection last week and although it has a few side effects it’s stopped the bad aches and pains again.
We are tentatively planing small trips etc (between appointments) Hopefully a few days away early next month for my birthday and our anniversary and a big family dinner,be nice to have something to look forward to.

🌹For NannyG and Neine and hugs to you all.

Nannytopsy Tue 22-Oct-24 08:41:36

Morning! Popping in for a coffee and a carb free croissant. There are more on the Aga for you all. DH has trotted off to see the nurse for his regular leg ulcer dressings so I have an empty for an hour.
We didn’t get the storm here in East Anglia and today is looking beautiful with cloudless blue skies. Shall I give the kitchen a really good clean, do the ironing or carry on potting bulbs and tidying the garden? I remember those happy days when I would have done it all. Enjoy your trips Neine & FGT - I hope you have good weather too.
Well, I had better get moving …

Naughtyneine Tue 22-Oct-24 08:09:04

Oops..finger slipped and posted too soon. Special thoughts to all also struggling at the moment. ♥️

Naughtyneine Tue 22-Oct-24 08:06:21

Thank you for your lovely support over the weekend. Your words are like a cwtch to me.
There was a beautiful Taize service for peace in our world at the big Catholic church in Taunton on Sunday afternoon. It was perfect for me... Just what I needed and I cried through most of it. It spoke to my wounded heart if that makes sense. Needless to say I look like Miss Piggy now and some serious make up is going to be required. I'm away back up to Surrey for work until the weekend. I made a last minute decision to go by train as I didn't relish the idea of driving the 200 miles home when I finish at 7pm on Friday. My luggage will be very minimal me thinks. It's not done yet so I had better get a wriggle on. I will be keeping up with all your news and looking forward to being back in the kitchen soon.
Special

Catterygirl Tue 22-Oct-24 00:16:52

Soop, may you just keep going. Wishing you everything.

Catterygirl Tue 22-Oct-24 00:14:06

Not too keen on posh bubbly but am joining you with a simple glass of wine. I love this thread as always so positive.

soop Mon 21-Oct-24 23:36:10

The very last photo of three champs. Son is on the right.

soop Mon 21-Oct-24 23:34:38

Last night's storm was noisy affair. Our friend who lives in Oban took a video through his window. The waves were crashing over the railings along the promenade, flooding the walkways and road.
It is a good deal quieter today.

Still no word of when Mr Soop can continue with the important scalp surgery. He has the dressings changed twice weekly by a nurse. Where the bands of tape hold the dressing in place, he is developing sores.

No word from the Oban hospital regarding the scan to determine the cause of the "shadow" seen on my chest X-ray.

Anyway, we soldier on. It's what us lot do because it's the sensible course of action.

SueD I am not usually given to feelings of envy BUT when I read that your cleaner had been...I succumbed. I would think that I had gone to heaven if a cleaner turned up on our doorstep. In the past I have cleaned house for others. My last job as home help was to the laird's widow. Not that long ago, I helped to clean her vast house and remained in her employ until she died at an exceedingly old age.

All good wishes to you good folk. Our Kitchen is all the better because you bring kindness and consideration into it on a daily basis. Bless you. smile moon

Now that I'm 83 and far from in the best of health, The spirit is willing, the flesh is weak. hmm

Redcar Mon 21-Oct-24 22:37:46

Good evening everyone. Good you are safely home brook you must be relieved that storm Ashley didn’t cause too much damage. It passed us completely, just a breezy showery day, but my friend on the Kent coast said they had torrential rain and gales most of the day.
I love your toenails fgt2 mine are now so horrible (arthritis) that I rarely show them to the world. Enjoy your trip to Malaga!
llfl how disappointing that your favourite lunch spot let you down this time. I hope you find another suitable place soon.
Had my pre op assessment this morning, all well 🤞. Did some ironing this afternoon and also repotted one of the houseplants, need more compost before I do any more, but may just use multipurpose compost instead of the proper stuff.
Night night everyone, sleep well (🤞).

Jaxjacky Mon 21-Oct-24 22:34:59

A quick hi and goodnight, quiz was great, 44 people on a Monday in a village! We were rubbish 🙂

brook2704 Mon 21-Oct-24 21:50:32

Good evening kitchen pals, we arrived safely back home mid afternoon then popped round to DD2s to have a catch up and to see the DGC - we’ve missed them all! DD2 was busy batch cooking meals for the freezer - it’s not really like her at all and I was quite impressed 🤣
Good to hear you’re soon off to Malaga again FGT, a great idea and enjoy every minute in the sunshine
The waiting must be worrying and stressful SueD, hoping your DH gets an appointment soon. I’d been quite worried about Storm Ashley damage here last night, but there was just a large garden pot that had blown over and general twigs and small branches down in the wood so not too bad
Grannmarie hope you’ve enjoyed the Monday night quizzes and having a relaxing evening
Sending ❤️ to all in the quiet corner

SueDonim Mon 21-Oct-24 20:47:02

Glad you’re back to A1, GG13.
That’s disappointing, LLFL. It’s such a hassle to find somewhere new, isn’t it? The right food, the right atmosphere, conveniently situated and so on.
Good to know that Blair Castle has been dusted, Granmarie! grin
How flattering to have to show proof of age for a flu jab, Jax!
Cute nails, FGT and lovely feet, too. Mine are like hooves. blush
You’re so caring, UTBB, your family is lucky to have you.

I hope no one was affected by Storm Ashley last night. It was noisy here but no apparent damage except for a lot of leaves off trees. Our cleaner came today, she’s super efficient and quite terrifying! She’s a past master at stacking things up, I fully expect to find my cats stashed in a neat pile one day. 😁

I had my NHS physio appointment today. He also said it was muscular, which I expected. He gave me exercises to do but cant prescribe painkillers so I’ve a phone appointment tomorrow with a GP for that.

No news for Dh yet, this wait seems endless and I’m not able to plan anything. Winter/Christmas events are coming in but I can’t accept anything until we have some sort of idea of timings. He did get an appointment for a hearing test, though - only been waiting since January for that!

I’ve done a small bit of decluttering, two little cupboards so not much but better than nothing. Maybe I’ll be inspired to do more, who knows? smile

TOYA. Xxx

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 21-Oct-24 20:28:26

Yes, back to Málaga LLFL while we can! Scan is next Monday evening 🤞 and results not until mid November so Himself suggested we squish in another trip while he’s not on chemo.

Hopefully he won’t need to be (who knows) but we can’t count our chickens that way any more.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 21-Oct-24 20:24:22

‘Pickling - on line’? GG13
Doesn’t sound too arduous even I could do that perhaps!
#lazygran
😁

GrannyGravy13 Mon 21-Oct-24 19:30:19

Hi, finally back to normal after Covid booster

Been to the gym, then local farm shop. Came home and prepared some more online for pickling tomorrow.

Lovely pedicure FGT2 👍🏻

(((Hugs))) to all who would like or in need 😘

Grannmarie Mon 21-Oct-24 19:09:29

Hello 👋 Ladyleftfieldlover, what a shame about your favourite lunch spot. Its always a pity when a special place lets you down. Glad you are safely home from your eventful holiday!

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 21-Oct-24 18:54:02

Hello kitchen people.

Our cleaner came today so the house looks clean and shiny.

Although I did a bit of a shop on our return from holiday, there were still one or two things to buy. I also got to the bottom of the washing basket so we each have a considerable ironing pile. OH spent most of the day making wooden woodpecker guards for his bee hives.

Did I mention our favourite lunch spot? We went for Sunday lunch yesterday as it’s tried and tested. We went for my 70th and usually go on Mothering Sunday and New Year’s Day. Sadly, it had gone downhill! OH’s starter consisted of four prawns (which he had to behead and shell) in a very greasy sauce and served with a huge wedge of sour dough. He had barely any pork, complained that the Yorkshire pudding was too thin and the only good thing was the stuffing, which he reckoned was as good as mine. My food was all delicious apart from lumpy mash. He mentioned the lack of pork to the waitress but she sort of laughed. The roast beef people had loads of meat - I had beef wellington. So, they are off our list for the time being.

Tonight I might listen to a talk on the history of railways which my daughter sent me a link too. This will be after Only Connect.

Have a good evening. Wow, FGT2, back to Spain again. That’s wonderful.

Grannmarie Mon 21-Oct-24 18:53:46

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. 🥰 What an achievement for your son, super photos too!

Hello 👋, NannyG4, I'm glad you made it to your DGD's concert. Thinking of you.

Hope Grannygravy is feeling better now. We have our Covid jags 💉 tomorrow. Hope all goes well cos my DSis2 has now asked me to assist with her Rainbows class tomorrow evening. 🤞

Pretty pedicure, FGT, I love that colour! I'm in socks and boots now...probably until March!🤣

Jaxjacky, I hope you enjoy your quiz ' under new management ' this evening. Well done on your meat win!

SueD, hope things are improving with your shoulder. Blair Castle 🏰 is very well presented now, maybe had some investment? The staff were most professional and helpful. I'm not a fan of all the weaponry, my favourite display was the China room, wall to wall, floor to ceiling glass cabinets displaying the Duchesses' dinner services. I loved the dark blue Chinese dishes and the Wedgwood.

Neine, I'm sorry to hear of your sadness. Thank goodness you have your lovely DH to support and comfort you. This too shall pass. Thinking of you, Granny Somerset, and all with sorrow or sadness. 💕🙏
Sending kind wishes to Blossoming, Doodle, Baggs, and all in the Quiet Corner.

UTBB, what a disappointment for your DGS. Thank goodness you are there to help. I'm sure the boys appreciate staying at yours and enjoying your home cooking!
Thinking of you and your health issues. 🙏

Nannytopsy, sounds like a great bird watching holiday. I didn't see the comet either, but DS1 got a photo from the Ayrshire coast. I'll try to post . If you enlarge it slightly you can see the comet ☄ whizzing by the right side of the castle.

Hello 👋 Redcar! Like you, I moved things from the garden and patio. I still had my parasol and whirlie out, didn't want them to take off in the high winds!

I hope brook and DH are safely home now after their wonderful walking holiday. Thanks for the super photos.

DS3 and lovely girlfriend came for dinner on Saturday, its always good to see them. We had pasta bolognese and garlic bread then we competed with each other on Celebrity Catchphrase!

Yesterday DH and I met up with my siblings and local cousins for a catch up lunch in our friendly Chinese restaurant, great to see them all and no need to cook dinner later!👍

Wishing everyone a peaceful Monday evening and a good night's sleep. I'm settling down on the sofa for the 📺 quizzes.
Please forgive me if I haven't mentioned you by name today but I have read all your posts now and I'm thinking of you all.
TOYA, NNGB.
