According to USWITCH 87% of people in the UK have a smart phone, 69% of whom are over 65 years old.
Apparently 94% of Ryanair customers are aged between 18 and 44. I don’t think it will affect them too much.

My brother has a smart phone but has no idea what it can do so he won't be doing it.

Ryanair is a truly dreadful airline. They treat you so badly. After our last experience with them we've decided never again.

It's the way of the world now. Everything should be accessible for everyone but that isn't how it works anymore. I need an App to get through the barrier at the swimming pool now. Previously I showed my ticket.

That's a very good point. Or if your phone is stolen en route to the airport. Or you drop it and it's broken.

Would that mean you just don't get on the flight?

Yes, when I signed up for David Lloyd I was expecting a membership card. Oh, dear me, no, it’s on the app. And today dh and I have received our new British Museum ‘membership cards’ which also go in our ‘Apple Wallets’.

I have a smart phone and not exactly a technophobe but wouldn’t have a clue how to do all that. I too am reliant on DH for doing ours.

I don’t like the way companies dictate such things. I’m old school and much prefer paper tickets.

Probably Rekarie but the knock on effect is the the flight would be held up while your luggage was offloaded! Not really their best idea is it?

We don’t normally fly RyanAir, it’s not a company I approve of, but we did use it when it was the only airline that flew direct to Riga.
We’ve both got iPhones so that wouldn’t be a problem, but I do worry about coverage in some places.

I know Jax but can’t tell you the number of times folks have held us up at the gate because their phones were flat and they didn’t have a paper boarding pass as back up!

I’ve used electronic boarding passes for the last five years but always print them … just in case!

A power pack means you can charge your phone on the move.

My phone died when I was away from home and my train ticket was on it. I went to customer service, they found a charger that fitted, charged it enough to get the ticket and printed it out for me. I thought that was great service and it was a lesson to me to check if the phone needed charging before I left the house.

My husband swears by his power pack.

I take a screen shot of my tickets so if I haven't got internet I can still show the ticket.

I haven’t a problem with the smart phone boarding pass, but always print it out just in case of a malfunction.
My problem is with Ryan Air, I avoid it if possible, but other airlines are don’t always go to the airports I want.
Just come back from a Ryan Air flight, delayed both there and back. On the return flight we were only informed of the hour delay when we were airside after the gate. Herded like cattle with nowhere to sit and no Ryan Air staff.

Ryan Air, never.

No frills airlines are the very worst for treating passengers like cattle. Am not surprised that this no-paper rule has come out, I mean why let customers have the option, the very idea that as passengers/customers we should want to have choices flies in the face of these money grabbing profiteers - pun intended- who are just after making a quick buck.
Have flown both easyJet and Ryanair in the past they are both horrendous for customer services. Are holidaying in the UK for the time being.

I’ve always been happy with Ryanair. It does what it says on the tin. And I can’t complain about their prices - often half what Jet2 charge.

Pay your money, take your choice! We prefer to avoid the budget airlines if we can and are happy to pay extra for a bigger seat, more luggage and a more civilised flight time. To some extent you pay for what you get. With regard to electronic tickets, you don't need an expensive phone or contract to carry everything on your phone and once I'd changed my mindset tbh it's really easy and convenient but I do think people should have a choice.

I hate flying Ryanair but used it a lot when I was swapping shifts with the "other" grandmother to help my daughter's family when her youngest was in an ICU abroad. I'll be forever grateful for the convenience (and the price).

Now I think this "pack-em-in" philosophy is better for the environment I'm torn. I wouldn't choose to use them but have looked at comparison emissions and they come out better than the train if you are going to/from some places. Thar really surprised me.
