If you use Ryanair a lot the app is very good.
I don't like it but I appreciate it.

From April next year flying with Ryanair won’t be possible with a paper boarding ticket. Smart phones only. Well that’s me flying EasyJet or Jet2 as I can’t comply (unless of course I’m going with Himself as he does own a smartphone).
Could this edict backfire and be O’Leary’s ‘Ratner’ moment? He may well lose more business than he anticipates. I’m by no means a technophobe but I don’t want a smartphone. I just have a SIM only contract with 02 in my basic dumb phone Nokia.

For several years I flew back and forth every week on Ryanair and just accepted what the silly man regularly decided to do next. I guess that was because the little airport I used was only 10 mins from my apartment, so convenience wins over whatever new rules the airline introduces.
If your phone runs out of battery at the gate, don't thrh have all your details on your passport if you've checked in on online?
I won't be giving that company any trade.
You have to have an expensive phone with bells and whistles to board a cheap as chips flight, not a snowballs chance.
harrigran - no you don't.
I bought a new cheap as chips phone about 2 years ago to only use abroad - and that can do it fine.
I bet you could get one (new) for less than £40. Mine was £14 - sim free.
NotSpaghetti. Is that a smartphone? Can you tell me the make please. I must enter the 21st century. My little Nokia suits me fine....but I think it is not enough for life as lived now.
I like my smartphone but don't like using it for ticket things.
It's too soon to make everything ticketless. There are lots of older folk who don't have or like smart phones.
We flew Ryan Air to Malaga in January, going out wasn’t too bad but coming back was horrendous.
Cabin Crew were so disorganised, families were sitting by the emergency exits who then had to be moved despite pre-booking seats.
Peoples bags were all over the place in the overhead lockers, nowhere near their seats.
Then to top it all the pilot came on and announced (by now we had been in the plan for 45 minutes without moving) sorry for the crying and loud noises at the back, it’s due to an autistic kid. I was ready to go and have words with him as we have an autistic grandson, I was absolutely furious….
That's very unprofessional, the pilot mentioning the child at the back. The cabin crew must have told him, instead of just doing their job to settle everyone. I wouldn't be happy either.
We were stranded on a choppy ferry for 15 hours last weekend, and despite a few complaints from passengers, I have to say that Brittany Ferries handled the situation with competence and understanding, even though it wasn't their fault. So it can be done.
Peoples bags were all over the place in the overhead lockers, nowhere near their seats.
Ryanair took our unlocked hand luggage and put it in the hold, they said there was no room in the overhead lockers. People were hastily repacking medicines, jewellery etc into polythene bags!
Last Ryanair flight we had to queue for ages and the incoming flight hadn't even arrived. Then we had to wait on the windy rainy airfield as the arriving passengers got off. Just awful.
However, easyJet seems to have improved a lot and we were very impressed by Jet2 package we had earlier this year. Good price and helpful customer service. Smiles all round at our check in and flight.
We have always had good experiences with EasyJet, although I’ve heard from others who haven’t. I’ve only flown RyanAir twice because I disagree with the way this man runs his company, but both times all went well for us. We prefer to fly EasyJet for local/short haul destinations, and use a variety of carriers for long haul.
For those without a smart phone but “needing” one for life in 2024, consider buying a reconditioned one. I have an iPhone 6 and only pay £5 per month for everything I ever need and no extra charges abroad. Of course you could possibly get a hand-me-down from a family member. 😉
It all works fine until it doesn’t. Am not happy with apps but have installed some, however, the last time I tried to install something and it asked for my Apple ID I put in the same ID I have been using for years and it was rejected, of course one of my ACs doubted this because of course I am senile and tried to log in using my password/ID which she also has in her possession due to not trusting me to remember it. It rejected her attempts as well. And despite applying for a new password have been told by Apple that it could take weeks.
Still haven’t a clue why my old password was rejected, do they expire after so many years?

Ryanair is a truly dreadful airline. They treat you so badly. After our last experience with them we've decided never again.

It is an entry-level an Alcatel.
Not sure of the model.
It I'd very slow compared to my uch better Samsung but I wanted something to only use overseas (for long complex reasons!)...
It's not got a lot of anything but ran the two apps I wanted and did WhatsApp.
My grandson had it for a while for "emergencies" on the way home from activities.
My husband had until recently an old LG which was a bargain at about £10 a month including the phone.
Have a look. I think you will be surprised!
I've got a 4g Motorola, wasn't expensive and my contract is £5 p.m. and there was a £3p.m. available too. When I went to the Olympics in Paris all ticketing was via an app as was my Paris travel card Navigo and the tickets I had for a couple of non Olympic events tbh it would have been impossible to have managed without a phone. I also put my boarding card for flights on too. I'm not the most tech savvy but it all worked extremely well. I do think we need to embrace new tech or we'll get left behind. I recently went to Rome for a few days with my daughter, we pre-booked all our tours etc before we travelled to avoid queues, again everything was accessed via the phone including a pic of my passport which was needed to go into the Colosseum and Vatican city, much better than carrying my passport with me.

This is all very well until folks check in their luggage for a flight but find their phone battery is dead when they get to the boarding gate…
"Addressing concerns about phone batteries dying at the airport, Mr O'Leary assured that procedures are in place: "If your battery dies we have your seat and your passport and we can do that at the boarding gates at the moment."
Feelingmyage55 My husband's "new" phone is a second hand iPhone.
It works perfectly too.
I've never flown Ryan Air thank God, and don't intend to if I've got anything to do with it. Desperate Dan was bad enough in my youth. I managed to get my tickets on my phone for our last EasyJet flight without too much hassle
May own one but can’t always grasp how they work
Thank you NotSpaghetti. I will investigate. Mydaughters will say. At last!
Maybe you could ask your daughter's to help.
My son was not impressed with the Alcatel (!) and it isn't as nice or quick as my "actual" phone but as I only wanted it for two/three apps and emergency calls it did exactly what I needed for the initial 3 weeks I wanted it for.
It's still working.
One of my daughters has bought phones for her family "nearly new" from CeX and had good service.
I like a paper copy too if I can’t print one when I’m on the move I send a copy to my wife’s phone, then there is a backup, we also carry a power pack in case we can’t charge.
I also hate “apps” you are encouraged to have everyones app but they take up a lot of space and rely on having a good mobile signal.
I haven't used a physical train or plane ticket for years. Never had a problem and never been held up by people whose "battery is flat". So much paper wasted (& probably never recycled).
