Days when you’ve got nothing on

I sometimes think these are the best days. Excluding family get togethers, of course. It is such a luxury to have a whole day spread out with no social events ,no appointments, no pressing things you have to do. I must be getting b. old because I appreciate these days more and more ( and I sleep better the night before, too !) Do others have this feeling or am I just becoming weird in my old age ?

Cossy. No wonder you’d love a day on your own, you are very busy but probably in a good way. Even so try and find a bit of peace and quiet somewhere it’ll do you good.

Thank you, I didn’t mean to come across as dismissive of those alone not through choice.

When my dear mother died we sold her house and with our share bought a holiday lodge/static caravan, on a very quiet owners only park and since then (March this year) go as much as can (mainly weekends) to “escape” and recharge.

Our younger three are still in their 20’s, youngest only 22, so they will fly the coop (eventually) and then I’ll miss them!

I love a “me” day but seldom get one. 😥

I love days where I am not going out in the evenings too. The days are busy with activities but I really love evenings indoors.

I'm with you Maw; I find I can cope with weekdays alone, but weekends are awful. I'm ok with reading all afternoon during the week.
I'm glad I have rugby to go to on Saturdays in winter, and I always try to schedule cinema visits on a Sunday matinee. Just booked for 'Paddington in Peru' next month and found a friend to go with.

Would give anything to be sitting companionably with my DH again...

Sometimes those days when you have nothing on end up busier than days when something is planned.

I decided to have a lazy day today, but I’ve just realised reading this thread, that I should have been at the doctors earlier for my flu jab. I’m usually very good at keeping appointments and can’t believe I’ve missed it. Hope I can book another appointment. 🙈

I like days like these. Im hoping my friend doesn't want to walk later as I'm enjoying pottering about. I thought of tidying 1 drawer but when I opened it I was horrified and closed it again. I have no idea what to do with all the stuff.

Got one GC 2 years old, another 18 months, and youngest 9 months. All by 3 different daughters. So the past couple of years have been mad, with lots of help needed from us.
Especially with the youngest still needing surgery at GOSH.
So when I get a day with nothing on I generally sleep 😂

Every time I read the thread title I think it's about having no clothes on, and I'm already cold enough with my clothes on 😆

Washing the cushion covers from the outside furniture, then the parasol
What's the betting we have an Indian summer

Marydoll- try audio books.

Aveline Sat 05-Oct-24 13:55:49

Oh dear. Just realised that it's nearly 2pm and I've been sitting reading since I got up at 6.30am! I used to dream about being able to do that.

Nannan2 Sat 05-Oct-24 13:58:13

Summerfly- if you cant rebook at docs for awhile try pharmacies‐ or health centres- a lot of those doing them, and booking or walk-ins easier with pharmacies.

Marydoll- try audio books.

I got a subscription for Audible. Unfortunately I kept falling asleep! 🤣

Oh dear.(i think my son said same😁) you could try listening early in the day maybe? Soon after breakfast while your not so tired?

I had on a lacy jumper the other day. My 6yo GD was shocked that I didn’t have a vest underneath and told me I was naked. grin

I do like the occasional quiet day but not too often.

Like you Maw I’d give anything to have my busy life with my beloved back. The time alone is so depressing for me. Early days I expect I’ll get used to it but at the moment it’s bl**dy awful.

You'll be catching a cold in your kidneys, mark my words! grin

Me too, especially when evenings are dark so soon.
I have to do quite a few nights at work and go very reluctantly sometimes seeing DP sprawled out on the sofa with a book all cosy☹️
I don’t have days doing nothing much as always cleaning to do, a bit of child care sometimes and seeing friends and relatives as we’re a close family.
I’d really enjoy a Spa Day 🤔

Thanks for that Nannan2. I need to have it so fingers crossed 🤞

Every time I read the heading of this thread I have to re-read it as I assume people are naked!
Just had to share that with you! grin

Mancjules Sat 05-Oct-24 22:56:47

I call it my "pottering" day....few and far between but very welcome!

FindingNemo15 Sat 05-Oct-24 23:02:39

Maw, Doodle, BlueSapphire and Oreo. Please add my name to the list.

Evenings and weekends are just plain awful.

nanna8 Sat 05-Oct-24 23:27:00

Our Probus group has started weekend outings for those on their own . It is proving very popular ! Usually a lunch or sometimes a visit to a place of interest. I don’t go because on Sunday I go to church and they are often at Sunday lunchtime but those who go really like it.
